I killed my 9.2.2 network by overwriting EtherTalk Control Panel - with an older version and now it won't start.

Oh, so my script has been ignoring bluesky for the past few days- i wondered why only ever 1 posting was there. There was a massive post that was confabulating the script. The MDNs are back to combined feeds now- you can see the M or B in the compressed feed prints if you get them.

Print jobs are a lot of traffic. When I wake up tomorrow I should have over 1 million packets routed just since the 8th on this new SE/30 AIR. I realize now two things:
1. AIR on 7.1 is really stable
2. My Quadra800 is really messed up as it would crash constantly doing this same job for #marchintosh

How did I get my #marchintosh Thursday miracle?
1. PageMaker -> Print to PS file
2. Copy PS file over to my new Mac via my AppleTalk share!
3. ghostscript it into PDF
4. Open PDF in Preview, Print
5. PROFIT !!!!
the command:
$ gs -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=output.pdf ~/Documents/PostScript01.ps
did the trick.

You just have to burn a blank page- FF after the job is done and then tear it off using the tear edge on the (in place) cover. Since you are tearing a blank page it works. Welcome to the 1980s lol

MDN is out and sent to various printers in #globaltalk. I also have a super condensed version for Imagewriters that just fits on 2 lines for each posting- so it prints very fast. Printing that via Word 5.1 and I can use two systems to print out at the same time- the wonders of #marchintosh

OK, it was Rule 3: eliminate the most obvious factor (Rule 1 is it’s the firewall, 2 is it’s DNS). I removed the ImageWriter from AirTalk and plugged it directly into the back of the SE/30… and it prints fast like I expect it to. Not sure why the AirTalk slowed it down but it did it. So i’m going with the RTF imported into MWII. Below are two more tests-
1. Nissus Writer w/ raw text (System 7.5)
2. MWII with RTF
Both print the same speed on the IW2.

I'm trying to get decent speed out of an ImageWriter II for the #marchintosh daily news print. From left to right it’s:
1. Original PM4 layout for Laser
2. Simplifed PM4 layout
3. ClarisWrite II
Claris prints fastest but not by much.
Maybe i’m just forgetting how slow the IW2 was. I have it on Faster not best but I’d want to be able to print 4-6 pages in a decent amount of time for this to be useful.

So something amazing happened. Benk wanted to print to a localTalk Imagewriter on #globaltalk for #marchintosh. But 9.2.2 doesn't have that. After some help from friends in a discord and some Tome diving he pulled the Chooser Extension from 7.5 and it works in 9.2.2. When I chose a LTIW on my PageMaker DTP machine and clicked print... PM will print to an Imagewriter. Very slowly. Let me know if you want one.

I do what I can for the love of the Macintosh. Do you have a printer available that I'm hitting? My whole point was to have a daily summary in print i can scan thru w/ coffee and follow up on things that catch my eye.
There was a cool project where a guy got daily news summaries printed onto his old dot matrix and that was sort of my inspiration for this.

I have conquered UTF8 and forced it to revert back to proper 1990s encodings. The next issue of MDN will be much cleaner. I also may do a version for mastodon, it will however be larger.

Ok my #marchintosh crisis (the Q800 AIR server died) has been averted. I'm back with the SE/30 running AIR and sharing the Worlds Faster ImageWriter. And i've finally sorted out the proper sharing for a dropbox folder on netatalk. A post on that is coming up!

For a time these were the only game in town for Macs to dump spinning rust. It's acting a little funky now so it goes in the drawer. I guess it (and that notorious ACHIP) kicked off the low-cost flash storage revolution for SCSI.

OK I'm back on #globalTalk after losing my real Q800 I pulled out the SE/30 and had to tear it down, install a new BlueSCSI (removing the ancient AztecMonster in there) build back 7.1, ethernet drivers, AIR, IP, System Updates. It's back and working for now.

My Quadra 800 has some issues... hardware issues I believe. Until then it's jrouter with the most appropriate case for the Pi.
Are there any solutions for linux to usb->serial to Localtalk? I would like to get my Imagewriter2 online using jrouter for #marchintosh

Going all in for jrouter. My Quadra keeps hard crashing and so I need to do something. I lose Localtalk and my Imagewriter doing this. I will use JR to keep my zone up via jrouter and rebuild the Quadra from scratch and see if it's better in 7.6.1.
I seem to have an issue running netatalk and jrouter on the same pi? Trying a 2nd one for jrouter for now. But once you get into the go it's simple enough to run for #marchintosh

Just putting these up for posterity and I'll throw in yet another (YASO) shout to @npub1j4d…ftz8 who has put out such wonderful decks for exploring and playing in #globalTalk
1. I always found the layout of the HC screens was one of the most rewarding aspects of building decks. These look so nice.
2. Using TalkCrawler on my 040 (Q605) while slow is not a horrible experience and it works. Just go get a coffee (or tea).

Today I pulled out the big guns- booting my TiBook with 9.2.2 on it. It's amazing the difference between an '040 on 7.6.1 (Quadra 605) and a G4 on 9.2.2. Truly a time of massive change for Apple.
My point today is that I've had issues un-stuffing many .sits from the Garden on 7.x and I realized they effortlessly unstuff on 9.2 - and they do it about 10x faster.
So lesson today is the tools make the job easier for #marchintosh

I just went from relying on @npub1j4d…ftz8 100% for my AIR configs to just relying 50%. The GlobalTalk Updater (https://github.com/dremin/globaltalk-updater/releases) is an amazing tool that looks like it will read the #globalTalk IP sheet and output a text file that @npub1j4d…ftz8's AIRConfig App can read and update the AIR Router Startup Doc. #marchintosh
I hope this stops my Quadra's crashes which have started and seem to be related to more data in the AIR config (only change that has been made). We'll see.

Also if you are on System 7 and you accidentally told the chooser to mount a share on boot once- you get rid of this mistake by deleting AppleShare Prep in your Preferences folder.

Worried about not being able to run the amazing Stacks from @npub1j4d…ftz8 cause you don't have Hypercard? It's super easy to install- KB has it in BlackBird Public:Essential:Hypercard421base.img__sit and I have it on PiFileServer:MARCHintoshForever:Apps:HyperCard241base.img.sit. Grab it unstuff and it should be a self-mounting image. Click to install.
