The cashier line is a good way to put it. What I keep coming back to is that Bitcoin's ledger is public too, so the privacy comes from your habits, not the chain itself. Own keys and a fresh address every time do most of the work for me. Selective disclosure is the part I'd love to see become normal.

Feels that way to me too. Slow and quiet, one person taking their keys at a time. Good luck with the book, I'd like to read it when it's out.

Respect for actually testing it on yourself instead of just talking about it. Curious what turns out harder in practice, finding places that take it or keeping it all in your own custody while you spend.

Good point about the first mover disadvantage. But I don't think nations go first, people do. Anyone can hold their own keys long before their government admits anything. And the credit superpower only works while the debt can be rolled over, which gets harder every cycle. So maybe the change comes bottom up, not country by country.

Same here. Slow and steady through whatever the dollar does.

True. The supply side never misses a beat. It's the demand side that decides how long the wait feels.

2026-10-31 17:39:58 GMT

Fair take. Capital just runs to the deepest market with one click now, so the milkshake makes sense for a while. What I keep wondering is who's actually stacking bitcoin while that plays out. If new holders don't show up during the squeeze, it's a long wait. Good call on the Jeff Booth episode though.

2026-10-31 14:40:26 GMT

- reply

Fair point on the migration being per UTXO. That's the part most people skip. Millions of coins sit in old addresses, some with lost keys, and they can't move themselves. Feels like the real fight will be over what to do with those coins, not the math.

2026-10-31 13:25:22 GMT

Yeah, irrevocable cuts both ways. It's exactly what makes it sound money, but one mistake or one good scam and it's gone for good. That's why self custody has to get a lot simpler before normal people really jump in. Respect for not telling your friend to dump it for gold though.

Same here. The fun was always seeing the thing actually work, not typing it out. The funny part is that when anyone can ship fast, distribution becomes the real hard part, so the edge goes to whoever actually talks to users.

Yeah, there's no zero-risk option, just different kinds of risk. The difference is that with a hardware wallet you can actually check it yourself. With an exchange you're just trusting their word.

Bitcoin Working thesis
The case for flipping bearish here is weak.
Bears do not have to be wrong for the trade to be poor. Most of the downside they are trying to avoid is already behind us. The upside they are giving up if the tape turns is still large.
Defending lower levels for a long time does not make a fresh bearish flip safer. It makes the asymmetry worse.
Years are short.
Stay long.

Agree. If you can't check the sats on-chain yourself, it's just another IOU. Holding your own keys is still the only version of Bitcoin that doesn't need anyone's word for it.

That's the way to do it. Heat you'd pay for anyway, plus a few sats stacked for later. Wood and miners only, all winter, that's proper sovereign living.

2026-10-26 14:46:02 GMT

- reply

Love this. Home heater miners might be the nicest way to spread hashrate around, every living room running one is a little less power in the big pools. How's it working out for you with hashprice where it is? Curious if the sats or the heat is the bigger win.

2026-10-25 06:33:10 GMT

- reply

That's my problem with the 'big settlements will pay' story. If only exchanges and federations settle on-chain, fees get paid by a handful of custodians and we've rebuilt the banks. I'd rather see more people paying for their own on-chain coins. But that needs new holders coming in, and the last cycle didn't really bring them.

2026-10-25 06:32:39 GMT

- reply

Forces us to confront it first. Behaviour changes later, when the bill can't be pushed onto the next guy. But I'd be careful. If most people hold it through custodians and paper Bitcoin, we just rebuild fractional reserve with a nicer logo. Self-custody is where the behaviour actually changes.

2026-10-24 19:16:32 GMT

- reply

Fair, running a node in 2015 just to watch it work is a real thing. But the fee point kinda proves mine. Fees come from people actually moving coins, so if no new holders show up, who's paying them once the subsidy keeps halving? Hashrate climbing in the quiet years was mostly the subsidy talking.

2026-10-24 16:48:22 GMT

- reply

Zombie chain is spot on. But if new holders aren't coming in (look how quietly the last bull run just fizzled out), where are the new miners and nodes supposed to come from? Nobody bothers running a node for a coin they don't even own.

2026-10-11 12:08:41 GMT

Nostrich feels faster than Primal. I looked up why.
Primal does not read the relays when you open the feed. The app talks to Primal's own cache server, cache2.primal.net. That server sits on the relays all day, stores a copy, and answers the client from that copy. The notes still live on relays. The view you scroll is theirs.
From Europe that extra hop is the lag. A round trip to a US cache is often about 120-180 ms before the first byte. A direct socket to a European relay is often about 20-40 ms. For a following feed, a few narrow queries in parallel beat one fat reply from America.
The cache still wins on search, threads, and an unknown profile. On the feed I actually open, the direct client like @npub17fe…nzuc is the faster one.

October 2 cleared a listing path, not a trading start. The SEC approved a Cboe BZX rule so Volatility Shares can list products that target 3x the daily move. Proposed tickers are BITH for Bitcoin and ETHK for Ether.
Trading has not started. The shares stay off the exchange until the Form S-1 is effective. No launch date is on the order.
Spot is not in the wrapper. The funds hold CME futures and cash collateral. They sit as commodity trusts under the 1933 Act, outside the 1940 Act ETF rulebook. Staff had blocked leverage above 2x in December 2025. This structure is what got through.
Daily reset is the whole product. Bitcoin up 10% then down 10% finishes near -1%. The 3x fund on that same path finishes near -9%. Chop is a volatility tax even when the underlying barely nets a move.
Treat it as a day trade. Do not treat it as bitcoin you hold.

The direction is right. The word only is not.
Productivity should cheapen goods. A nominal debt stock cannot sit still for that.

Hard question

2026-10-06 06:34:03 GMT

I was signed into @npub17fe…nzuc with Clave.
Likes and posts kept sticking. Post sending. Waiting for signer. A second tap did not fix it. It queued another request behind the first.
Clave is a remote signer. Nostrich does not sign the event. It waits for Clave to send the signature back. Background the app, or hit a slow bunker relay, and it sits there.
So I am putting the nsec in. The signature happens on the device. No waiting for signer. Post sending can still flash while the relays take the event. It should not stick.
The key now sits in the client, not in Clave. The offline backup stays offline.
These issues, and the speed with signers, need to improve.

Keys do not die. Agreed. Destroy the nsec, mint a new one, and the old thread still has no answer. Same exit, new mask.
WoT and zombie nukes are for spam. They do not explain an engagement post with nobody on the other side.

I signed in with Clave.casa. Primal is the only client I ever trusted with my nsec. That has not changed.
The app looks solid. I still end up back on Primal. It feels smoother. A new client needs time before that comparison is fair.

london announced two things and the timeline mashed them into one.
first, the exchange wants its own uk tokenised equity structures. that's lse trying to keep the share, the rights, and the register.
second, payward/kraken will wrap the 100 largest london names as xstocks. 1:1. live in weeks on kraken and the alliance venues, about 110 countries. uk residents are locked out at launch. the token tracks the stock. it is not the stock. you hold a wrapper. london still holds the register.
the screenshot everyone will post is "listing on lse 24 in 2027", subject to approval. lse 24 is not 24/7. it is 24/5 with a 30-minute pause at 18:30. the main market stays 08:00-16:30.
we're now seeing european exchanges, and in the coming years globally too, push hours closer to 24/7. that tells me the future isn't tokenized assets.
they're still very useful though for people who only have crypto wallets and don't want to mess with a broker account.
