I hear the Dutch version when I see this.

… nu hebben wij helemaal geen enkele verzekering bij onze bank.
Dat gaat op principe, we houden bank en verzekeringen graag gescheiden. Maar dit was dus een ordinaire poging om ons een verzekering te verkopen!
Dus ik leg de man vriendelijk, maar duidelijk uit dat we net een nieuwe pensioenverzekering hebben afgesloten en dat we daar verder geen interesse in hebben. En dat hij dus ook geen e-mail hoeft te sturen.
Maar dat was te moeilijk voor de verkoper van de #rabobank want hij moest en zou de mail gaan sturen…

… die wilde deze meneer me niet geven, want dan moest hij mij eerst geverifieerd hebben (grote rode phishing vlag, hij belde mij!).
Nou dan ging hij wel een mail sturen. En maakte zich klaar om het gesprek te beëindigen.
Ik zeg: ‘hoho, kunt u mij op z’n minst vertellen waar u voor belt?’
Nou dat kon wel, het ging over pensioenverzekeringen…

Ik werd van de week meerdere keren gebeld door een 088 nummer wat ik niet kende.
Toen ik donderdag in de auto zat en het rustig op de weg was nam ik op.
Het bleek iemand van de #rabobank die me (omdat we zakelijke klant zijn) belde.
Nog voor hij had medegedeeld waar hij eigenlijk voor belde vroeg hij mij om mijn geboortedatum ter verificatie.
Ik was er 90% van overtuigd dat het een scammer was, dus ik weigerde en vroeg terug om de laatste paar cijfers van ons bankrekeningnummer, ter verificatie immers….

Let's have a short discussion on 'when will you follow someone' on the #Fediverse especially when it comes to #politics and #press
There is a catch22 situation here, where politicians and people of the press say 'we are not going to use the Fediverse, since we cannot get enough reach there' and people here on the Fediverse say 'we will only follow people who are actually active here'.
I think that if we really want to make the Fediverse a place where we can find all the news and all the political activity we should take action to overcome this catch22 situation: if there is an official account of a politicion or a press-outlet, even if they are not (very) active: follow them!
It does not hurt you (if there is no posts, then there is also nothing to not like) and it will give them the chance to see that there is an active audience here that is worth spending time on.
Oh, and when they do get active: treat them like you want to be treated, welcome them with a warm heart and encourage them to be even more active.

one of the nice features of running your own instance is that you can increase the number of allowed characters to something a bit more than the default.
That way you can fit those URL's (and your argumentation that has nicely formed sentences instead of abbreviated ones) in your toots and your reactions.
I strongly recommend doing that. #mastoadmin

You are probably going to want to optimize your Postgres database first (to fit it to the amount of resources in your system).

what is your starting point?
What kind of resources does your server have, how many users do you have, how many followers, how many are followed?
I can tell you how to run an instance with thousands of users, using loadbalancers and spread out sidekiq processes, but that might be bad advise if you just need a bit more uhmpf in the right place.
