There are a very minor amount of open source services that you can run yourself on a server in your basement. I'm sure they do nothing like Apple will do for you with fancy dashboards and stats but they can collect the data you create.

I think i had a facebook account around 2012-2015. I was pressured into it by friends but never really did much with it so i deleted it 4-5 years ago because apparently i still had people trying to contact me through facebook.
Never used nor visited twitter (except when a tweet was linked by others).
Then there's linkedin. As much as i hate it, professionally it is the place from which 80% of my work comes. Companies seem to find me on it much easier than anywhere else. Any tips on how to do this different are welcome.

I applaud more engagement on nostr but when shit starts hitting the fan on the big platforms people will start looking for alternatives.
There is some fragmentation as people may not understand some of the (technical and political) advantages of using nostr yet, but with more time nostr can mature and reach more people as well.
Regardless, there's no need to choose at the moment and it's fine to use multiple platforms and give some more attention than others if you have more engagement there.

Don't worry. I built tonnes of pc's and i always used the bar minimum of screws necessary.
CD-ROM/Hard drive: 1 screw
ISA/PCI cards: no screws
Chassis: no screws
COM/LPT/VGA port cables: no screwing
The worst that ever happened was that maybe once or twice a cable came loose and only once when i tried to plugin my vga cable in the videocard that it came loose from its pci slot. Fortunately because i had no screws on the chassis either that was fixed in a minute.

I came here mostly because it was what bitcoiners were talking about. I have never used any other social media platform in any meaningful way (i.e. i never had a twitter account and i used to have a facebook account that i maybe posted 2 or 3 things on 15 years ago).
I am not that much interested in the social media aspect even though it's nice that there are a lot of like-minded people on here. To me it's more about other possibilities this type of platform can offer. There's loads of potential here for widely different use cases than other platforms can offer without deviating too much from their core business.

- When was the last time i read/saw a news article and i changed my life because of it?
- (From the top of your head) What were the most important articles of last month?
I've heard many people say it is important to be up to date with what's happening in the world, but the reality is that i can read about events happening somewhere and that may give some kind of emotional feeling of angriness, happiness or sadness, but i am not going to change anything in my life because of it. So it feels very aritificial to me to spend time on it.
News articles can still be a a good source if you are actually looking for information on a subject, but just presenting daily affairs of things that will have no impact on me except emotions is just wasteful.

Maybe it's a good idea to somehow, somewhere prominently show last month's relay costs, broken down in those 3 area's so people have an idea of what it costs to host these relays and additionally show a "drive" of how much of these costs have been donated.
It's probably hard because you would have to do it client sided and all/most clients would have to implement this.
It's definitely not an end-all solution but giving insight in costs and covered costs at least gives people a general ballpark idea of what we would need to cover in the current situation and make it more likely to pay their part.

I'm generally inflexible but my shoulders and back are by far the worst problematic.
I want to be able to keep my hands straight above my head, but in general i am working towards doing (a) muscle-up(s).
Nothing is really stopping me. I have my fysio exercises that start to slowly improve things. I mostly have to just stick to them and do them at least every other day (most of the time i exercise different muscle groups every day).

It is! I have been there on holiday for 6 times now. I keep going to different countries and most of the time i'm like: "This is really nice, but it's not Norway."
Last year during the summer i visited about 12 waterfalls, only 3 of them i had seen before, for some i was there for half an hour with zero other people. I went to the snow, i swam in a fjord, in a mountain lake and some really odd pools with natural slides up in the mountains. I hiked for hours while never seeing a person.
For me it's the best country for a great holiday. So much stuff to do and 99% is free.

No unfortunately on github you cannot see who is able to merge a PR. This would be at least the owner of the repo, and then you can configure your repo to allow more people to do this.
The only way to see this is if you have admin rights yourself in the settings of the repo where you can maintain a list of people who can do this.
For the protocol repo i think this is a handful of people.
Github does not know about the meaning of the files. So changing a mandatory NIP (which is written in MarkDown) has no special meaning over optional NIPs. These are just files in a git repo.

No the github link i send is just the documentation of the protocol. See it as a blueprint. It merely describes how clients and relays communicate. Just like for example HTTP.
People can suggest changes to it by creating a pull request though in general I think specifically the non optional NIPs like NIP-1 cannot be changed easily by simply creating a PR. Much discussion will be needed, specifically if it is a backwards incompatible change (e.g.: a mandatory field is removed, as this would stop current clients and relays from functioning properly).
There are a number of people that can then approve this PR. Though of one of them would blindly do this others would point this out, just like with bitcoin for example. By changing NIP-1 you only changed the blueprint, no existing client or relay is affected.

There is just "the protocol". In order to get a client or a relay they should implement (some of) the NIPs described on https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nostr
Whatever else a client or relay adds is up to the developers of said client/relay. This might be nothing up to extreme cases of tracking. Therefore it would be wise to choose an open source client and relay so you can verifyyou are not running any kind of spyware.

I partially can understand why people are so hyped about presidential candidates talking about bitcoin, but in my experience a presidential candidate, specifically the ones from the 2 major sides, only use it as a medium to get more votes in.
If you replace every occurence of the word "bitcoin" with the word "tulip" it makes just as much sense.
In my experience what they promise and what they deliver are hardly ever the same thing. They promis you a mountain of gold but you should settle for a bucket full of shit at best.

They have just been convinced that this system is actually attractive for people, which is true for most people unfortunately. They would gladly have a camera put in their face so that some system will open a gate for them like magic.
The issue they're trying to solve here is probably some people sneak on the campsite and swim for free. Yet it is still a custodial wallet like WoS or Blink. They offer superior experiences because for them there's a commercial benefit in it. Also these wallets have been around much longer than any wallet that supports ecash.
In fact phoenix could easily integrate ecash and you could have the best of both worlds.

Maybe, but i could see somebody come with an L2 that works different and maybe better than lightning.
In terms of ecash there are already different options out there and the innovation on that front is also still relatively early. There is still a lot in development to decrease trust or make it more verifiable by having proof of reserve on the mint side and building up reputation as a mint.
If there is no solution to go in and out of L2 with less than 2 transactions most people on earth will never get to do anything on-chain in the long run.

I agree that this works now, but when scaling up you will get to a point where it will become impossible for people to open up a channel because evey channel required an on-chain transaction and we will run out of transaction space way before onboarding every person on the planet.
This is realistically still very far off and maybe lightning is not the end game at all, but ecash does give you some options in terms of further scaling up the lightning network for now.
We have to keep inventing here even if the outcome is not the perfect one.

It's great that the UX works for you. The point here (as i understand it) is not a UX thing but more a privacy thing. A mint knows nothing of its users. It just receives sats from some lightning address, gives tokens for it, then when they get redeemed it sends those sats to some different lightning address.
Phoenix requires you to fill out some personal data (though i heard you could fake it), but it still centralizes a lot around a single service and could therefore easily be targeted and strongarmed by government agencies to give up all data people provided then with.
There can be many ecash mints, there is only one Phoenix.
