i feel like i don't have the words to properly describe how it feels to see people who opinions i respected and valued slowly fall into ai psychosis. it's so slow and so subtle at first. "i'm just experimenting! i'm not an ai booster!"
then wait a few months, and they start explaining with the usual flawed, incoherent reasoning how actually it's all very interesting and thought-provoking, whilst pointing at an LLM that is so obviously just a reflection of their own ego.

2026-02-17 05:44:14 GMT

every blog post i read about 'agentic LLMs' just makes me feel concerned for the author. it would be embarrassing if it wasn't so deeply sad.

the main difficulty of electronics is when u wire something up with full knowledge of how it will work, then u wait a few weeks to get the boards back, and then u have to work out how it works again to make the firmware

if you see the esp32 ‘backdoor’ news and are wondering why everyone is falling for such a nothingburger, the answer is that most people on here will believe literally any baseless made up “china bad!” bullshit. some of y’all are so committed to your sinophobia that it makes u stupid.

2025-03-09 20:12:28 GMT

so can we talk about how fucking racist fedi is whenever china or chinese people come up?

2025-03-09 07:45:26 GMT

shocking tangara backdoor allows attackers to update your device's firmware via an exploit in the 'tangara companion' app

2025-03-06 05:08:50 GMT

this is the most compsci freak we'll ever get on main, but working within the limitations of the esp32 has led to some of the most genuinely fun and interesting programming problem solving we've ever done. we imagine it's the itch that retrocomputing scratches for a lot of folks.

2025-03-05 00:46:48 GMT

honestly we really empathise with the style of open source maintainer who simply snaps and starts replying to every issue with "fuck you, make your own thing if you're so smart". we will resist the urge, but we do get it.

not to be too On One but the thing about these rust-hostile linux kernel guys is that it's also just such a waste of an opportunity to learn rust? like if you're a kernel maintainer, and someone sends you a rust patch, you can ask *endless* questions about language features you don't understand. you have a community of very engaged engineers very much incentivized to teach you how to read and write rust. and what do some of these guys do? they stick their noses up at it. what a waste!!

2025-01-31 05:02:54 GMT

we were told there were roaming bands of rust evangelists willing to do work for us for free just for the love of the game. where are they!!!

has someone written a portable fatfs implementation in rust yet? please do that for us for tangara, it would be very helpful to have a better fatfs implementation and rust is a good language for that sort of thing

if someone tried to introduce rust code to tangara we would say "can you please give us a rough sense of the binary size + memory impact of this?", then we would make sure the toolchain setup is easy, and then we would say "okay cool thank u merging now"
