Honestly I hadn't put that much thought into it past "I don't usually want to see them", but this user's proposal sounds very smart:

I like the counter in all circumstances, it doesn't clutter the reading of the feed, but not the actual display of the likes. Usually. I agree toggles are the way to go. Separating the categories by tabs is also nice. This is what I am generally used to, and I think it is the most common configuration. On X, the notifications view is by default "all" but has a "mentions" tab that filters out retweet and like notifications.

2026-10-22 16:27:11 GMT

- reply

@nprofile…vhl6 please implement. This is a standard feature on X and Facebooks. I don't need notifications for likes, I am only interested in actual comments. Nostur and other Nostr clients also either allow removing react notifications or at least splitting them off into separate columns. I consider only replies and quotes actionable notifications, and don't want them drowned out in a bunch of reacts.

2026-10-22 16:14:53 GMT

Is there a way in Amethyst I am missing to hide boosts and likes/reacts from my notifications column? I only want to see actual conversation.

A nice place to live is worth killing a few stoners, hippies, and junkies. Why don’t you people just stay out of Singapore? It’s a big world, and it is not a moral imperative for there to be people smoking marijuana everywhere. Just accept that your ilk are not wanted and move away.

just fyi, if you add too many hashtags one of the most popular Nostr clients, Amethyst, the single most popular client on Android, and I suspect within a very short amount of time for most Desktop platforms as well, treats your post like spam by default. It makes it extremely easy to scroll past. Relays, as well, are far more likely to treat your post like spam. Because a ton of hashtags is definitely heavily associated with spammy content. Your post is not spam, but looks like it. It makes your content very easy to dismiss and scroll past in multiple ways.

This was a ad for morphine for infants, for example. Sears used to sell it. You see this in present day cannabis rhetoric. It's harmless! Look at all the studies we have of things it can treat, and since it is harmless it is a crime against society to not let people have infinite access to it!

2026-10-18 11:05:51 GMT

I disagree very strongly. The more data we have from cannabis research, the more we know that it is hardly 'completely harmless'. It certainly causes schizophrenia in some people, and really accelerates nearly every known mental illness. It's a drastic demotivator and contributes to poorer life outcomes in nearly every social class. Civilizationally, it ranks among the most harmful drugs. It is the one I personally want my kids doing the least, besides fetty. I'd rather they smoke crack than cannabis. If crack is a bad drug for you, you'll completely ruin your life in a few months and have a chance to bounce back. If cannabis is, you'll just slowly do nothing and eat junk food, and maybe a chubby Starbucks manager in your forties. And this kind of failure mode is exceedingly common.

What I am doing is not a feature implemented by any client, it is what I would define as "low hanging fruit" in that I think it is insane that nobody has done it yet. Like how a million printers sat unfiltered on the public Internet for years until I was the first person to think of printing to them all at the same time. I want the debut of this implemented in a very specific way by a small team, because I believe that my vision and associated social understanding is far more comprehensive, but I believe that afterwards many people will adopt the features I am proposing, and it will greatly advance Nostr adoption by orders of magnitude.
I assure you that new software needs to be written. If I say I am doing something you can rest assured that it is something completely new that nobody has thought of before and likely would sit undone for decades even though it is trivial to accomplish because nobody would ever comprehend to do it until they saw how fucking funny it was after it was already done.

Hiring collaborators to write some Nostr-based anticensorship software. Budget is small and not lucrative. This is not a startup and it is not going to turn a profit, but you will get massive dividends in lulz and the kingdom of heaven will open its gates to you. Still, you'll get paid.

Also there's no obvious way to close all the tabs. I'm just clicking around and soon there's a ton of tabs open. Plus I have to realign as I close each one singularly, as the x that lets me close them ends up in the wrong place as I rapidly click. And tab state persists on restart. So I'm just normally using it and I end up with too many tabs open, which encourages slowdowns.

Firstly, sometimes when I'm editing a new post in a buffer, particularly when I'm copying and pasting and deleting blocks of stuff, it will just seemingly scramble part of what I'm writing. It's frustrating and I have to obsessively proofread. It also frequently slows down when left open for a while and starts to feel clunky. It also seems to get worse with a lot of tabs open, leading to small freezes.
I'm on low bandwidth mode (third world internet + tor user) but some format of videos still seem to autoload and autoplay. Also annoying.

Every once in a while I check out Amethyst desktop to see if it's good enough on Mac yet. It's pretty fucking good, and I think potentially my Nostr daily driver from here on out. I think, given that it is now not only one of the most useful clients, but the one now available on the largest plethora of platforms, that I am going to refer people to it first and foremost, unless they want to use a browser client, in which case I always tell people to use Ditto.
Nostur is great on the iPhone but has some problems on Mac desktop. I am glad Amethyst is here with a well thought out desktop build these days.

There are millions of Mexicans in the United States that will talk about Aztlán, which signals intent to reconquer the territories of Mexico that are now part of the United States. You think these people are here for gibs? They are literally here to rape and murder and return territory back to Mexico.

When Hoover deported 2 million illegals, there was *zero* gibs. No welfare state. So your thesis that they are here because of free shit is false. When Eisenhower deported a million, there were *zero* gibs. Please explain the incongruity with immediate visible reality and history.
> the government that youd be asking to solve this problem actually caused it (cheese) and therefor wants it like this so expecting them to help you is insanity
“You can never change the actions of the government by lobbying, coup, voting, or bribery.” Libertardian indeed. You people are morons. The entire state machine tried to block the entire Trump immigration agenda and he is doing it anyways. I don’t think it is enough, but he is delivering on his immigration and trade promises to his supporters.
You can in fact get the state to help you. You start filling seats, doing the march through the institutions. You can also threaten enough of them with violence, bribe them, and just be an annoyance by constantly showing up as a lobbyist. Simply filing lobbying appointments is something that literally anyone can do! You just have to show up in DC and file a form for meetings as a citzien! I’ve had friends I’ve known do it for computing regulations we felt passionate about. If you are the only voice on a given bit of legislation, you are going to get what you want, because they probably don’t have any personal opinion on it. If you aren’t the only voice, you are balancing your opposing lobbies. Lobbying works, that’s why corporations pay for so many people to live in DC and be a full-time lobbyist!

The Andes are beautiful, and I’ve been in them in 4 countries. But that’s like extolling the moral virtues of America by citing the lyrics of *Take Me Home, Country Roads*. Low population density mountains can be pretty nice everywhere, but when you descend the slopes West Virginia has full nude strip clubs and all the oxycontin you can snort.
The Andes, by the way, have present day tribes that still practice cannibalism.
> Sounds like you're melatonin-ist.
“You don’t want them flooding your community simply because of their skin color!” No, it’s because of their sky high crime rates when they come to my country, as well as their incapacity to integrate with a white society based on genetically lower IQ and drastically different social standards. They should stay on the slopes on the Andes.
> I'm assuming from your profile pic that your bloodline isn't indigenous to North America
Start walking, I’ve 5 Creek ancestors on the Dawes roll and am a citizen of the Muscogee nation. I also have minority blood quotient in some other tribes, but don’t meet the blood quantum for membership of those.
> Serious question: Have you tried mushrooms or mdma?
Yes, I have done all the drugs. If it is smokable, I’ve smoked it. If it is injectable, I have injected it. I’ve done a thumbprint — a visible physical amount of LSD crystal attached to the moisture and skin oil on your thumb, amounting to thousands upon thousands of doses. Put this song in your playlist for when you have women in your car. If they’re intrigued, you can pin them down and fuck them with no issues. If they’re extremely offended, you can antagonize them by acting like it is a really good song with an important message and negging them until they are turning into a powerbottom and riding you like an animal to take emotional control of the situation. Seriously, just make sure it comes on whenever you have women present.

It is telling that you simply dismiss as “edgy” social and legal norms which were considered normal from the dawn of prehistory until 1862 in America, where Major General Ulysses Grant signed an uncontested *General Order No. 11* expelling Jews from 3 American states because they were engaged in so much corruption. For all the known history of mankind, there were social legal norms that existed in literally every society until the 19th century that are now considered simply “edgy” to mention, of which expulsion orders and coverture are the most important. I will continue to advocate for common sense laws that worked for multiple millennia, even though it has become “edgy”.

In action this kind of mirrors the logic of a failed short squeeze. It’s like Silver Thursday, where the Hunt brothers cornered the market on silver. Their spreadsheet math was correct, there was only so much spot silver and only so much new silver gets mined. All of their accounting was correct, but they still got rekt. Because the social conditions around leverage changed, and also at a certain price everyone begins melting down scrap silver.
In Bitcoin, you have the assumption that people are only going to mine profitably. Because ASIC rigs cost so much and are well guarded, you can generally accept that no significant contributor to hashpower is going to deviate from commercial norms. But Monero, which has a mining algorithm that defies ASIC optimization, has another dimension. In that I have no wish to run a mining business, but I have ideological attachment and fervor for a free economic system based on a fungible currency. And anyone with masscan can come up with ridiculous sources of compute. Millions of IoT widgets and smart TVs can be mining Monero if need be. Lots of people became committed of adding just enough hashpower to fuck over the Russian mining position and make it too costly. They were paying for an obscene amount of compute because they thought there was money to be made double spending XMR. It turned out that there was a lot more hidden depth to Monero’s chain security than they thought. Zero double spends. They spent a whole fucking lot, down to their very reputations, and got no return. If anyone else wants to try in their place, they can put their chips on the table. They’ll end up like the Hunt brothers. I guarantee it.

I am also an advocate for split-PoW mining, like Tari has (they have three mining algorithms that rewards are split between — one is merge mined with the main Monero chain, the second is ASIC friendly, and the third is optimized for GPUs). Each gets a segment of block space and rewards, to make reorgs harder and discourage extortion via selfish mining.
I don’t like proof of stake as the primary consensus mechanism, but I also think intermittent proof of stake every n blocks with a diminished mining reward is also a nice potential validation mechanism to make reorgs harder.
Monero endured a sustained 51% attack pretty recently with no double spends. People came out of the woodwork to provide hash power from various sources, myself included. This is our future. This is our children’s future. We’re not going to sit around jerking off when our chain is under attack. We will hold the line. States might be able to come up with a lot of hash power but I can too.

Okay, well, using Bitcoin means I definitely don’t get money. Using Monero only means I don’t get money in a hypothetical conspiracy scenario that has never occurred before and where I can’t just wait for a hundred extra confirmations. Ok.
I am not attached to Monero. But fungibility is the minimum viable thing that a currency can offer me. I won’t use something without it. If tomorrow Monero was somehow unusable because of widespread attacks, I would tell people to send me Tari. Or Pirate Chain. Maybe even Epic or Beam. But I won’t use a coin that is financial spyware.
Ironically, it was also Satoshi that thought it was required to implement in Bitcoin. He said of ledger privacy, “ If a solution was found, a much better, easier, more convenient implementation of Bitcoin would be possible.” — Exact quote:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=770.msg8637#msg8637
He then goes on to talk about ZK proofs and describes a ring signatures scheme, just like the technologies implemented in Monero. He clearly hadn’t read any of the papers on ring signatures at the time, but he was reinventing ring signatures from first principles.
Anyways, Monero has become that much better, easier, more convenient implementation of Bitcoin. If it becomes less easy and convenient I will just switch to another currency that is not captured by Blackrock and Saylor types and turned into permanent financial spyware as Bitcoin has been. I wish I could have stayed a Bitcoiner, but it is Bitcoin that is now absolutely dead set on never, ever implementing any “controversial features” exactly like the ones Satoshi advocated for in that thread.

2026-10-14 22:31:48 GMT

- reply

I don’t really care about privacy at all. I care about fungibility. I care about my counterparties not getting their exchange accounts frozen when they send or receive money from me, which happened frequently with Bitcoin. I care about my coins being redeemable on equal terms to everyone else’s. That is the social contract that the technology of Monero enforces. 1 XMR = 1 XMR.
I am a public figure, I am not looking to do anything in secret.

The VC and grant economy is dried up, and it all went to pointless retarded shit that did not help Nostr at all, merely enriching the pockets of fraud cartels full of people like nvk and Matt Odell. So now they are back to Twitter, where they frequently complain to support and get their critics suspended.

Nostr has a real value proposition with identity sovereignty. As the most banned person in history, it is the only place I seem to be able to post and have some marginal guarantee that people will be able to read what I write.
This is why Google, for example, is notorious for making products and just abruptly shutting them down, some of them well used and actually very nice. The goal isn’t to actually make things people want to use. I miss Google Reader, it was excellent. Sometimes someone at Google does some worthwhile science even. That Google management intended for this to all be just a way to say “look at all the projects we are developing at any given time! We aren’t a search company, we’re actually a company that does so many things at any given time, we are competing with practically half the planet!” doesn’t diminish the earnest contribution of the people who built those good products or contributed to scientific development. The system is big enough that you can marginally benefit from this situation by circumstance without being morally complicit.

Literally the exact opposite point of my post. Trump is making the best possible effort to deport them all and it will take something like 50 years at the current rate to be rid of these pests. You cannot deport them all. You can only kill enough of them that they know they can’t stay and leave of their own volition.

2026-10-12 19:35:29 GMT

Virtually everything ever called a 'deportation' did nothing to solve demographic crises. Soviets deported some chunk of populations like Chechens, didn't seem to accomplish much for Russians, mere decades later and they are fucking drowning in assorted wogs with a Chechen now appointed as the supreme general of the military. Herbert Hoover did a massive Mexican remigration in the thirties, at least 2 million spics, and Eisenhower did another milly with Operation Wetback in the fifties, but America is still drowning in these creatures.
Everything that ever worked was not a repatriation order at all. It was an expulsion order. These work the exact opposite. You do not run around trying to detain people, nor spend the obscene resources to give them a free flight out of the country. You publish a document like King Phillip did in the early 17th century which can be summarized as "Every Mohammedan has 3 days to leave Spain, under penalty of death. Subjects of the crown who identify a Mohammedan afterwards are under posse duty to attempt to kill them, lest they be charged with harboring." In 3 days, the number of Moslems in Spain was zero. This also was the strategy for well over a hundred successful expulsions of Jews within Europe.
I don’t support a system of deportations. They reduce immigration enforcement to a ridiculous game of hide and seek -- not the only childish part of our nationality system, as the unprecedented unrestricted jus soli citizenship policy that the United States has adopted similarly transforms our border into a giant game of "Red Rover" with pregnant nonwhites. Deportations very visibly have a 100% failure rate in history. You have to give the people free license to kill their blood enemies and inform said enemies of such situation, and then watch them flee like rats. If we are going to cleanse the white nations of browns, such widespread and distributed right to slaughter them must be synthesized -- perhaps by giving ICE agents absolute immunity, an order for summary execution of detainees, and pay millions of Trump voters a penny and distribute a badge and service pistol to all of them. But deportations aren't going to cut it. You have to shoot violators where they stand.

There’s an excellent primer to this answer in the form of a Peter Thiel lecture at Stanford titled “Competition is for Losers”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Fx5Q8xGU8k
Monopolies are constantly trying to pretend that they have much more competition than they do. So there’s always efforts by monopolies to finance, through absurd proxy schemes, “competitors” that are fundamentally unserious. The competitors know who, essentially, is buttering their bread, and they want to keep the VC and grant bonfires burning, so they build products which could look like serious competition only to an utterly clueless and uninformed observer, as the geriatric regulators and judges whose job it is to constrain them usually are.

It’s not just a casual matter of culture. It is a commandment of their religion. Deuteronomy 7:16 says that they must *completely consume* all the nations they get control of, *without pity* and reminds them to think of Pharaoh (the first innocent goy they scammed) if they get second thoughts about dispossessing you. Deuteronomy 6:10-11 says they get to enjoy “the cities they did not build, the houses they did not fill.” That’s what they believe they get as a reward for following their covenant: all the goyim’s stuff, after they’ve killed off all the goys. These aren’t remote verses, they are immediately adjacent to the *Shema Yisrael*, the prayer they say every day.

And since unilateral exit is unlikely (at least at any cost one would deem reasonable) it matters whether or not Spark is willing to continue cosigning your transactions. They not only have asserted the power of surveillance, but that of indefinite and absolute censorship. At any point, Spark can decide (or any regulatory authority with power over them can decide) that they are not going to be co-signing your transactions. And then whether or not you can unilaterally exit in a fair and efficient manner becomes a very urgent question:

You should know that the Sterlingov decision mentioned in your article is still not set in stone. Sterlingov’s counsel is in process of filing a petition for a review *en banc*, due to the fact that the court’s ruling produces a circuit split with the 3rd Circuit’s precedential opinion in *US v. Auernheimer*, as well as older extant legal norms.
While certain scammy podcasters were raising money for a case that ended up never going to trial, disappearing with over a million dollars in funds, Roman Sterlingov’s team intends to fight all the way to the end. En banc in the immediate, and then they will petition for a writ of certiorari. They will not relent, they are going all the way.
If you supported the Samourai rugpull, please send money to Sterlingov’s team. This is the case that is actually going to decide the law, and it has been incredibly underfunded due to not getting influencer coverage.

IMO, DMs on Nostr are such a fucking disaster that there should be a total and complete shutdown on DM features until our app developers can figure out what is going on. So many fragmented standards, so much broken, they frequently do not work for me and never fail in a way that indicates a good reason why. I think most clients should stop trying to be messengers and the same way there is NIP-A3 for payment targets, there should also be a NIP-A4 for messenger targets, so that people can just delegate to actually useful messaging apps for a while. Maybe with 2 years of clients not having DMs and autoreplying to any DM they happen to receive a full list of peoples messenger targets, maybe the major devs could very carefully sit together and agree on a comprehensive and actually good DM mechanism. But by god, this is basic functionality on every other app and it is a disaster. There is also just zero fucking market demand for yet another messenger. There’s a huge need for Nostr’s core competency, which I surmise is censorship-resistant pubsub based on cryptographic identity. Please, just stop trying to make yet another messenger app based on Nostr.

exploitation is a natural consequence. Some people will simply insist on being exploitative towards the weak, it has nothing to do with “systemic incentives”. In the 17th century, Cossack hero Bohdan Khmelnytsky lead an uprising and established the Cossack Hetmanate. His primary call was to purge and capture “abusive landlords and administrators”. This lead to a massacre, mysteriously, of nearly only Jews and Jesuits.
Interestingly enough, before Adolf Hitler, Bohdan was the considered biggest adversary of Judaism and Jews around the world had a day which they would curse him in their appeals to whatever it is they worship. Perhaps looking at the last names of landlords in New York with the most complaints might indicate that this is not a problem that is about “systemic incentives” unless the system is that of the doctrines and jurisprudence of the specifically abusive religions. From the Khmelnytsky Uprising to present-day Manhattan, it always seems to be a very small subset of the population which are engaged in the actual exploitation of tenants.

2026-10-05 10:44:49 GMT

I know plenty of nice landlords that are good to their tenants. You may be fine with maintenancing your own property but many people are working on other tasks and want to delegate that. In fact, most people do not want to commit themselves to the maintenance of a property. It is something many people find satisfaction in. Additionally, some people do not want to commit themselves to living in an area long enough for the hassle of home purchase to be worthwhile. Landlords are also providing a service to these individuals. I appreciate all my prior landlords, they were all very nice people who provided me with a good service at a cost that was not unreasonable.
The landlord-tenant relationship does not default to exploitation out of nowhere. The type of people to engage in exploitative practices as landlords are also frequently engaged in exploitation even if they engage in other professions. They are exploitative because their lack of morality permits it, not because they are landlords.
Seething resentment against successful, landed people is not good.

the primary pressure on housing prices is not inflationary. Inflation doesn’t create supply or demand, and is therefore irrelevant in the equation of labor to housing. The primary pressure is 130 million extra brown people in my country, which creates demand for the limited supply of housing and drives up the price, as well as drives down the cost of labor as labor becomes more plentiful. This is the reason that wages are not keeping up with inflation. It’s not a magical thing where you print more money and labor gets worth less as a result. Wages are a marketplace, and the marketplace has been flooded with brown scabs that we need to pick.

Inflation is when the currency is worth less, not when the labor is worth less. This has nothing to do with inflation. I am not measuring fundamentally in dollars. I am measuring in hours of labor spent. We went from 2 hours of labor for a room to 9 hours of labor for a room.

Roger Miller's classic *King of the Road*, detailing the economic conditions at the time for the itinerant (who, witnessing vagrants at train stations, inspired him to write this song) details how good the boomers had it -- two hours of minimum wage labor could get a room for a night. I did a simple search for rooms in what were described as America's cheapest capitals. The cheapest actual room I found when I put in "I'm flexible" and willing to not accept any specific date was $60, which is slightly more than one can make on minimum wage in an 8 hour shift. I'm sure there are some roadside motels not indexed on the Internet somewhere, but I'm absolutely sure that none of them are as cheap as $14.50, two hours of the federal minimum wage.
I found hostels in cities with train hubs for roughly $20, so anyone today would have to work an extra hour to not even have a room, just a bed in a room full of other "people" who are statistically certain to eventually steal your possessions over a long enough timeline. 50% increase in cost in labor-hours for something so significantly less that it is a fundamental threat to being able to live a stable life. It is materially impossible to be an itinerant laborer living solely off the virtue of your labor now.

Formal verification only provides security guarantees within very limited ranges where a system can be perfectly modeled as a series of transforms with very explicit definitions. Formal verification is a nice to have within the confines of some systems, but it is not a panacea.

This is not true. Drivechains are the actual answer to scaling Bitcoin that would not be a failure driven by fraud like Lightning. And the ingredients to synthesize drivechains on Monero are already there. Monero already has sidechains like p2pool and merge mining with Tari. When Monero needs drivechain scale, it isn’t a big project.
> the moment they delegate operation to experts, all of Monero's advantages become meaningless
All blockchains have delegated operation to experts. These are called “miners”. And Monero’s advantage is fungibility, which does not change dependent upon who is mining it.

2026-10-03 11:41:40 GMT

- reply

> you fundamentally can never achieve scalability with layer 1 alone, and it was fairly convincing.
It’s also fairly convincing to just do the napkin math and count the number of people that can open a Lightning channel. It’s not very many. It’s certainly well below the population of earth. LN people then say that custodial solutions are inevitable so we should just accept that all of LN is custodial. At that point why have LN at all? Why not just have custodial Bitcoin? Lightning has massive rates of failed transactions in the real world. Actual normal businesses see 25% of their transactions fail. You have a ton of lost time, lost money. Lightning does not scale.
Bitcoin hasn’t solved the scaling problems, and Core has rejected the solution that is actually practical (BIP300/BIP301). So Bitcoin can’t scale, Lightning can’t scale. Monero could scale with drivechains just as easily as Bitcoin, but that isn’t an issue yet.
Between two blockchains that haven’t solved the “scale to 8 billion people” problem, I’ll take the money that is actually fungible and useful money. Monero can adopt drivechains in time, as people actually begin to use it more. Monero has the advantage of not having an invasion of scammers and frauds like Saylor and Blackrock. Its fee structure is perfectly correlated to actual usage, not speculative mania and scammers.

^ retarded nerd assertion
Lightning has had tons of problems in the past 10 years. Monero virtually none! The world’s most critical systems aren’t formally verified! Software written in Forth that was shot into space and is still working decades later without bugs isn’t formally verified! Erlang switches with 9 nines of reliability for decades straight aren’t formally verified! SSH isn’t formally verified, but a lot more depends on its security than any digital currency (and it is very secure despite being significantly more complicated than LN). NGINX, any name server daemons people actually use, none of this is formally verified.
LN is bad because the basic theory is bad. It does not work as people market it on paper, and there are a ton of stupid kludges built on that foundation to try to deliver on the promises of Lightning’s most vocal proponents despite the protocol fundamentally being incapable of what they promised. Monero is, in fact, orders of magnitude more reliable than Lightning, and is not constantly failing in hilarious and absurd ways like. Lightning.
In contrast, Zcash people are the type to jerk off about formal verification (as if I can trust the proofs these disgusting yids and trannies assert are implemented correctly). And they had an inflation bug in *checks notes* June. This kind of idiotic academic handwaving of “just solve all your problems with formal verification” doesn’t really fly in the real world. In fact, jerking off about this academic shit seems to have a perfect negative correlation with security.
