Of course, the code is public domain! It's just an early proof of concept. If nobody else does, I'll spend more time on it as able. Whatever I do will be FOSS of course. Hopefully there can be a handful of cooperating nostr media host providers to give users choice and decentralization.
I spend my days orange pilling farmers & street vendors and getting them to accept sats for their goods & services. I accept the challenge of peer-pilling them and getting them to understand that torrents in and of itself are not illegal.

You can take an input file and generate the magnet URI without having to seed it on the network to do so. They can be split out in code to 2 separate commands.
There is no such a thing as an "illegal torrent". It's illegal to transmit certain types of media over the internet. Torrent or not, you can choose to transmit those bytes whenever you want/don't want to. Adding torrents to the mix does not decrease your level of control as a nostr media host service provider.

Every social media company today does #2. They remove content async. The law seems happy with that.
If you wanted more assurances you could do something fancy where you save the file locally for those 14 seconds. If the file is requested while CV is running, return a placeholder loading image. Then after CV completes, you start seeding the file as a torrent (if passes checks) or delete it from local disk (if fails checks).
It's not materially different than hosting images and scanning them with CV in a traditional way without torrenting involved.
At the end of the day, it's your code controlling the ingress/egress of bytes from your machine. Torrents or not. You can control the flow of that however you'd like.

I don't see how this is any different from a legal perspective than how nostrimg.com works today. You're still hosting images uploaded by users either way. You can still run the Computer Vision stuff on both whatever you proxy/whatever you store. Torrents don't add (or remove) any legal complexity of that.

Check out fiatjaf's thread from earlier today discussing (@#[3]).
It gives user maximum choice.
Some ideas that would be interesting to explore:
- A file provider like https://nostr.build but offering torrent seeding instead of direct downloads
- A platform for turning torrent magnet links into images (caching them briefly)
- Nostr clients uploading stuff (small images) to these torrent providers and inserting the magnet links in the notes
- Nostr clients that download render magnet links as images (if file size and content-type are applicable)
- Nostr clients that don't want to download torrents directly can turn the magnet links into normal image links from the aforementioned platform
I think this enables somewhat decentralized image-hosting:
- The torrent metainfo/magnet is derived from the file content for each image doesn't change, so even if one provider (or yourself) goes offline it can be in multiple others
- Since the magnet link doesn't change even if the provider that turns magnet links into HTTP images dies, the clients can just replace it with a different one, the notes do not lose their content
- Each of these steps can be done by different people, with different degrees with redundancy, cost and pricing

This image is pretty neat. I HTTP POSTed it to an endpoint that receives the file and starts seeding it as a torrent. I get the magnet URI back in return.
I can then pass that magnet URI into a HTTP proxy that will download the file over torrent and then return it back with the appropriate content type etc.

works here... tldr though- what's the point of using IPFS at the storage layer if the access layer is centralized through HTTP gateways? From a nostr perspective, a user would still have to POST the image to a HTTP server, which would then have to process it and save it on disk. Users would then later access the media through another HTTP gateway.
