What a nice machine to be running Flex on, but I get it, and would do the same given those circumstances... Just a bit of a shame to have all that power for Flex. ;)

Installed Xubuntu 24.04 on this ASUS Chromebox CN62. I replaced the 16GB 2422 M.2 SSD with a 64GB 2422 M.2 SSD. And tomorrow I'll probably upstage to 26.04. Just had a few minutes between tasks today to try the install. Sadly Kazeta didn't work out on this box, it installed, but forced a shutdown whenever I tried to boot it. Still, a cool way to make an obsolete (the version of ChromeOS last had updates in 2022) box useful again!

I loved by playing Shamus on the c64... I'm most proud of Sumash as it was the first game I coded with the idea in mind, (vs basing it on existing GameMaker code - and I used the Linux version of GameMaker, Aseprite, and other tools to make it). Sort of a proof of concept that you could make a game in Linux. Of course using Godot would have been more ideal, but I knew GameMaker GML so it was just easier to do.

I've never tested the minimum specs of my game, but I don't expect it's very demanding. I'm going to try on an even lower spec modded Chromebox as I'm thinking my game could run on it. But yeah, I think the warning is more for games requiring more than Intel graphics.

New project: trying Kazeta https://kazeta.org/ on a Dell Optiplex 3050 TFF PC. I installed kazeta to the NVMe in the system, then created a USB drive with the unpacked AppImage of Sumash (the Shamus-like game I made with GameMaker for a game jam). The system boots to the NVMe, then looks for any drives with .kzi files (ideally SD cards, but a USB key worked). It booted right into my game. Pretty awesome stuff. Now I just need to start making games for Linux again.

This SSD was pulled from a recent donation to be wiped. It showed up in Parted Magic as a Samsung EVO 960 (not 870). When I went to wipe it (normally less than 2 minutes), Parted Magic indicated it was going to take over 65,000 minutes to wipe! It turns out it's a fake drive, made to look like a Samsung drive. I had a bunch of other Samsung SSDs wiping with it and yes, they all look different. This one isn't labeled Samsung anywhere (nothing on the bottom - though it looks like someone removed a sticker), but someone's gone to some length to make it look similar enough that you might miss it at first glance. Caught by software!

I repurposed a ChromeBox CN60 for #ubuntuserver and Pihole. Flashing the box with Coreboot was an experience.

@npub1l78…m0ct while I was on the main page I noticed the short description for the Ubuntu Reveal Codename has the words Debiab-based. In the article it's correctly Debian-based... Just the short description on the main page.

it's a pretty bad photo of almost stock Red Hat 7.1 across 2 monitors (xinerama). I had both an AGP and PCI card in the computer to do this. Note the 15 and 17" CRT mismatch. From 2002. Also had a Pentium 1 running a firewall just for this silly single PC. Biggest waste of power, but all learning. Looks like 6.06 in your photo?
