New spam accounts which had signed up were suspended daily up until my departure from the server.
Prior to the closure notice, I had purged of our user database of lurking/dormant spam accounts.

Everyone here in this period received a toot about the close (done manually).
Updates on the closure have been posted and can be found on my timeline (25 over the course of a bit more than a month).
New sign ups to the server (I hadn’t the ability to turn these off) were informed on the day they signed up and directed to new servers.

If you’re reading this and on warhammer.social it’s a note to say that this server is no longer moderated as of today (17/01/24), and it is liable to be closed without notice.
A decision was made on the 17/11/24 that the server would close, after that point comms about the closure ceased. After which and in that in that context as the Mod on the server I initiated communications about the shutdown.

hiya - folks have mostly headed to wargamers.social, dice.camp, tabletop.social, and gamepad.club.
The first three are great alternatives to Warhammer.social and the last one is slightly less relevant but a very friendly spot to land.
All four have excellent admins and mods behind them so very much get my seal of approval!
There is an invite code for both wargamers and tabletop available if you want either?

I know the gold standard from announcement to closure should be 3 months, but I think we’re a bit beyond setting any good standards for a wind down just now.
Additionally, I’m still unsure as to the date of closure.
For all the admins in the back - is that an okay timeline for you to limit/suspend federation/etc with Warhammer.Social in an orderly way, I’m happy to extend my stay for that reasons if not. Apologies for pushing work to you all. I’ve been really keen to not do this!

mind you’re now federated with a whole new network, and without an algorithm pushing things - the vast majority of the folks you’re now connected to won’t have had the chance to see your stuff. It’s such a hard e-etiquette lesson to unlearn but retooting your own stuff is actually a good thing here.

it was the lockdowns that got me thinking why am I always cheaping out on coffee for at home consumption. Queue thinking about people and places that I’d had nice coffee with and from. These folks have a stall in a weekend market in Belfast that’s right beside the train station. Dear readers, I am a fool for excellent quality and nostalgia in all walks of life 😂

Non-server related toot for a change. One of the things I dropped to stretch the household budget in those 6 months between jobs was nice coffee. We dropped getting beans from a tea and coffee merchant in Belfast. Today I opened the first bag since getting back into work. It’s little things like this mean a disproportionate amount to me. It’s definitely going to be a two pot day and for all the right reasons.

I’d been toying with an idea of those as an Oathmark army, I’d bagged some very lovely Oldhammer Orcs. Plan was for it to be a nice mix of these em4s and the metals throughout as champions etc. However I’ve not managed to find Bernard’s Watch on eBay yet to help me manage all my notions - definitely best sent to some who might get to them (but thank you!) 😂
