bitchat++ meetup at btc++ riga privacy edition with at least 36 real peers in the mesh.
pentest with ble flooder managed to fake up to 5k peers but network still returned back to normal afterwards. nevertheless a lot of work required to improve robustness and reliability.

Germ brings end-to-end messaging to Bluesky. It's a messenger based on MLS encryption (like @nprofile…ll8s for Nostr). Germ is a separate company and has their own app separate from the BlueSky app. Unclear if this is a partnership or "just" and integration.
Interesting: in the BlueSky iOS app, pressing a Germ link in someone's bio doesn't download the Germ app but opens an "App Clip" which is a light version of the app that doesn't need you to install the whole app. I believe that Android also has this (unterutulised) feature.

💥 finally established a successful handshake with the new iOS version of btichat that uses noise xx encryption with forward secrecy.
I ended up forking the noise-java crypto library (used in signal) and had to make open heart surgery so it supports static keys instead of generating new ones for each session.
still buggy af and the handshake only works 10% of the time but seeing this fucking lock turn green has been the most valuable learning experience I've had in the last year.
I know kung fu.

sender has cash in their pocket and hands it over to receiver. receiver needs internet to re-issue tokens to prevent double-spending.
alternatively, if only the sender has internet but receiver not, sender can lock the tokens to receiver's pubkey and send over.
one of the both needs internet to fully prevent double spending

8 hours later I actually know now how bitchat works (not every part yet but most of it). it's pretty nifty: every phone is a BLE server and a BLE client at the same time. the app optimistically connects to peers that it can find through a scan. all messages it receives are relayed to all other connections.
I've tried it with a chain of 4 phones each connecting to only their next peer and the message propagates like a lightning payment from one phone to another.
need to implement message chunking (the protocol already defines it but there's no working implementation lol. it's strange because an LLM came up with it but it didn't implement it on neither ios nor android

it only took me half a day to port a *native* iOS app to *native* Android with AI.
hardware stack I've never worked with (BLE) and I'm not even an Android dev. it would've required weeks of research if I attempted this just a year ago.
