its only getting down to 65 here at night, which is sufficient for now, but one thing ive noticed is that if the house bones are hot, the air needs to have a 10 degree difference otherwise it practically doesnt matter, so if it gets much warmer at night, ill hafta switch to using the small indoor heatpump to actively cool instead

i installed a quietcool brand whole-house fan, and when the temp outside equalizes with the temp inside, i open a few windows and light that thing up and let it run all night. it cools the attic (DRAMATICALLY), functionally replaces the ac, and introduces a long-term flow of fresh air :D

this is the same set of charts, but i removed the power usage and added humidity from the same set of sensors. it went up a little bit on one sensor, but barely 2%, and not enough, i would think, to cause the co2 sensors to more than double for the same timeframe

well, i started overlaying charts, and noticed that the dishwasher we started right before going to bed had hit its drying cycle during the spike, but the dishwasher is on a different floor than the co2 spike. the co2 spike was downstairs, but the dishwasher is upstairs.
well, co2 is heavier than o2..
but notice the two non-spiked lines. one is the bedroom, the other is my indoor fruiting tent.
with the whole house fan running, theres no surprise that the bedroom had fresh air

this is INCREDIBLY peculiar. I installed two new awair air sensors yesterday, bringing the total number of co2 capable air sensors to 5. this morning i was looking at charts and saw a massive co2 spike about 45 minutes after we went to bed. wtf?! and the co2 spike was on a different floor. AND we had the whole house fan running all night, so there should have been fresh air. so what gives?

when i first moved here i started messing around on nextdoor, and since i see a toooon of people using ring cameras i made a post about how folks shouldnt trust ring, listed some reasons, one of them being 'that the cops can tap into your cameras without your say-so whenever they want and even get audio'

our old website was setup using jekyll. its neat (i guess?) for people who spend all their time working in github, and want to use github actions to deploy their site.
if you arent a developer, and dont spend a lot of time in github, or have non technical users who need to occasionally make a blogpost or a small edit - its a nightmare

axis sells a PoE speaker made for outdoor PA system setups and for intercoms.
the next time the spider pest control guy tries, he's identified by his mac address again as he walks up the driveway, and in the seconds it takes him to get to the door, the axis speaker blurts out "WE KNOW ITS YOU PEST CONTROL GUY, GO AWAY"

heres a fun absurd thing thats possible with this scenario:
a pushy, annoying door to door salesman who wont stop coming to the door arrives again.
his phones mac address and the networks it probes for get recorded. home assistant knows its him, and an automation fires that looks up a note from his previous visits.
HA snaps a pic from the foyer camera, slaps text on it and does a mobile push/notify to phones:
"the spider pest control dishit is back again"

setting up home assistant to pull data from pfsense DRAMATICALLY IMPROVES VISIBILITY.
i can make all the custom charts i want, and map events from those logs/charts to actions. custom ones. something that pfsense desperately needs and wont build.
this is a gamechanger.
i have glued together home automation and network security.
home assistant talks to unifi as well.
i can automate my entire environment with this. network, wifi, vlans, gateways, cameras, powerwall, hvac ...

its wild that pfsense is lacking in such basic functionatliy (if an interface goes down, perform a custom action) that there have to be home assistant integrations to do that for you.
and its even more wild that despite reporting it to netgate over and over and over again (and im not the only one) netgate doesnt seem to care to implement that functionality in the UI, despite the fact it can obviously be done over xmlrpc.
