I guess from the 30s, he/she did not find out that there are competing clients with complete different UX. Probably also didn’t notice the lack of doom and gloom posts, and the ability to truly speak your mind without being censored, for free. But hey, it’s a free market out there. If staying in a walled garden paying $8 a month to read filtered and censored materials works for them, kudos to them.

1. Think of it like a deposit you make when entering into a trade with stranger having no trusted third party. The deposit gets returned to you if you don’t cheat or break pre-listed trading rules, and all or a portion of the deposit gets taken away if you cheat or break trading rules. Bisq had been using fidelity bonds in its trades for many years. The model had proven to work.
2. Correct me if I’m wrong, but from what I read, it seems the protocol wants to exist on top of the nostr layer without requiring NIPs or big changes to nostr protocol. Like how http or ftp is built on top of tcp/ip.

While I agree that there is no formula for success, it is not sufficient to just seek validation from within. We as humans are social animals, and we constantly seek belonging and approval from other people. I have been using it on my computer for the past week or two. It's very simple to use, implements NIP-07. When you need to sign things on a nostr client with your nsec, it pops up a window asking if you want to Approve or Cancel.

Of course you or anyone else are free to do as they wish when it comes to zaps. If you don't feel comfortable participating in it, simply don't.
That said, I believe keeping a small amount on a custodial wallet just for sending and receiving zaps is not a bad choice. Especially if you use the custodial wallet anonymously (don't provide any KYC info to the wallet or use an anonymous email address).

There were a ton of utxo consolidations last night / early this morning. Big transactions with hundreds and hundreds of small amount inputs, some under 2 of 3 multisig and some just single sig, all consolidating into a large amount utxo. All taking advantage of the low fees and only paying 1sat/vB too. I was wondering if it was a big player like an exchange consolidating or something like that…

Depending on how you define account. For example, the “accounts” in Blue Wallet exists only on the front-end, in the wallet app. All the liquidity actually exist on the lightning node that Blue points to and has access to. Within the lightning node, it does not have separate accounts according to Blue. The lightning node has channels with other lightning nodes. The total local balances of all these channels is the total outbound liquidity, and the total remote balances of these channels is the total inbound liquidity. These channels have nothing to do with Blue’s accounts and does not care about these accounts.
In the case of Zeus, it’s a full feature, remote lightning node controlling software. It also allows you to control multiple lightning nodes. For example, I have an umbrel node and a start9 node, and Zeus can control both nodes, one at a time. In other words, I can view each lightning node as a separate “account”, each with its own balances / liquidity.

Not necessarily a bad thing. It allowed the plebs to accumulate more corn than if it had hit 100k. I personally was stacking as much as I could all this time, and was happy to see the sats per dollar rate stay up high.

IMO, Zeus + own node is not a good option for onboarding. You need to first dedicate a computer to be used as a node, have the dependent Bitcoin full node software installed, then have the desired Lightning implementation software installed. After having all the software up and running, you need to understand and be able to open channels, manage channels, create inbound liquidity etc. Only then will your node + Zeus give you a good lightning experience.
There are always trade-offs between self custody and ease of use. For small amounts, I think custodial is not a bad option. If you really want to push self-custody, use Phoenix / Breez / Muun (I know it’s not true lightning, but it works with lightning).
It’s hard, if not almost impossible, to turn a no-coiner into a bitcoin-maxi in one step. My approach is to send them a little bitcoin, let them play around with the bitcoin, and get them interested. Once they start going down the rabbit hole, you can be there to guide them through the journey.

I used to run a guild with my buddies. We started small, had a pretty good core, and went on to clear ZG, AQ20, MC, and was half way through BWL when the expansion dropped. The guild also crafted 1 Thunderfury and 1 Sulfras. We used to have raids every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 8pm sharp and sometimes raids would run until 2am or even 4am. Talk about dedication… with grinding for mats, grinding for reputation, and raiding, the game was more than a full time job. Indeed kids these day have no idea lol

My kids get a lump sum at the beginning of every year from lunar new year, and they have to decide how much to save (I put the amount into bitcoin for them) and how much to keep for themselves to spend for the rest of the year. I was thinking of teaching them how to self custody their own bitcoin stack by installing Nunchuck on old phones for them. I guess it's the right age for the older 2 to learn about it.

Personally, I like to look at mempool.space before sending an on-chain transaction. It usually gives me a good idea of the current fee market and allows me to manually set a good fee rate depending on the urgency of my transaction. You are definitely correct about wallets giving you wrong fee estimations.

There is nothing wrong with sharing wealth voluntarily, especially if it helps with adoption and helps grow the circular economy. One can always spend and replenish, which is what I like to do. After all, value is subjective; freedom money being spent freely, based on one's subjective value at the moment of spending, is a beautiful thing.
