let me also put it this way: if there would be a protest supposedly against Islamist regime, where co-organiser would be Robinson/Farage or people affiliated with them, and certain Labour MPs would attend it, you'd condemn it bc it means indirectly endorsing far-right. and that's true!
yet when it comes to the supposedly "anti-war" protests organised by pro-regime organisations, we're supposed to give prominent politicians the benefit of the doubt? because they're "progressives"?

RE: https://mstdn.social/@DM_Ronin/115889404075109278
btw I'm not exaggerating about people in #Fediverse, even with large number of followers, being self-centered and disgusting when it comes to protests in #Iran. hers just one example of someone denying any dignity and agenda for protesters (replies aren't different too) https://mastodon.online/@Geri/115888739596464628

it's genuinely shameful how relatively little news & updates about protests in Iran against Islamist regime have been posted in Fediverse, and meanwhile the number of protesters killed is already at least 2,000 – some report it's already exceeding 12,000 and live munition is used against protesters end masse.
even worse when posts in support attract tankies & other clueless leftists saying it's CIA/Mossad staged.
freedom to Iran, down with this terrorist regime.

for EU #fediverse citizens: EU's upcoming digital ID wallet is planning to use Play Integrity API for device verification, as described in their repository's README. this isn't just insecure, but will also exclude a lot of people who don't use certified Android OS.
issue has been raised in their repository, but devs have provided no reply so far. we should spread the awareness about it and make sure they reverse this decision https://github.com/eu-digital-identity-wallet/av-app-android-wallet-ui/issues/10

some late night thoughts about law 12414 in Ukraine that undermines anti-corruption agencies.
what Zelensky & Yermak are doing now is going down Yanukovich's path and feeding the narratives for left & right wing populists who itch to see Ukraine fall.
it is a shameful day, and state 404 will inevitably use the division it has done in Ukrainian society to make things worse.

finished reading Ardern's memoir and it left me more convinced that she is one of the best world leaders in recent years. maybe she wasn't as much leftwing as some people wanted, or disagreed with some of her policies, but she truly offered a different kind of power – one based on compassion, listening and care.
it is also a reminder that in the current world of polarisation & radicalisation - no matter the topic - we urgently need the opposite.

after today, do I need to explain why Europe must urgently invest in its own defence by increasing spending and supporting more arms production independently of USA?
America has turned into a "capitalist" China: authoritarian country with a huge economy - and Europe has to take its own future and defence into their own hands and stop relying on USA.
there is absolutely no turning back from this.

majority of Muslims and those who pretend to care about human rights downplay, justify or defend genocide of Uyghurs, or don't consider it worthy talking about them because they're merely pro-eastern imperialists or plain Islamists.

yeah, I'm aware of that – also, there's no 2FA for email login. Sadly there are trade-offs, but they're not unfixable: you can either use POP3 to download emails and remove from mailserver, always use PGP encryption, or regularly clean up inbox.
I could have also recommended Riseup (which is also very good!) but it is useless unless you have someone who can send invitation – although, from my personal preference, I'd still prefer European-located service.

on GrapheneOS it is possible to set contact scopes (which works similar to media scope), but while adding scope for Signal/Molly doesn't make linked contacts, WA does that, so even if you remove access, that WA duplicate persists as read-only

well my point is that CSAM automated tools aren't error-free, and there has to be some mitigation against false positives. I totally accept that my approach may not be the right one, but that's why there should be discussion on finding the one that takes all aspects into consideration
In future, maybe CSAM scanning algorithms will be polished to perfection and we can rely solely on them. And I genuinely hope that would be the case. But as of right now, I'm skeptical about it

2024-12-17 10:20:32 GMT

on the last point: assuming someone uses Google or CloudFlare, it will require to put trust into either of these providers that their CSAM scanning algorithms don't flag anything by mistake. And they're not immune to mistakes.
Wouldn't it be better to outline that CSAM scans should be used as a tool for identifying potential harmful content with mandatory human review rather than "if CSAM scanning flags smth, it's objectively true and you must comply regardless of the outcome"?

"Privacy. That's Apple." (as long as we upload your passwords to the cloud unbeknownst to you and keep it forever)
I wonder if this is something that might fall as a breach of #GDPR rules... https://lapcatsoftware.com/articles/2024/10/4.html

if we have public libraries where we can lend books, articles, and in some cases even movies in DVD discs, we should have the same public spaces for videogames – retro or not
this could help reducing piracy significantly

Mozilla adding trackers to the K-9 email client is the eventual conclusion of what the company has turned into
But I'm not angry or pissed off. I feel just tired that we live in a world when companies deliberately normalise the surveillance via advertising with the silent consent

Two years ago, Mahsa Amini was brutally killed by IRCG.
For two years, Iranian women and men have been bravely protesting against the terrorist and vile Islamist regime, sacrificing their health and lives.
My heart goes to Mahsa's relatives, and to all those people and their relatives who were tortured, wounded and killed. You will not be forgotten 🕯️

My own article I refer to (in case anyone's interested) on Telegram, why it's a social media, and some recommendations to harden your account there if one has to have it https://dm_ronin.codeberg.page/posts/telegram-is-not-a-messenger/

This is a must read about Telegram encryption – so that people would stop referring to it as anything "encrypted", let alone a messenger (in fact, as I wrote previously, Telegram must be treated rather as a social media)

Another reminder for anyone, whatever passport you have: do. not. travel. to. russia.
If there's any illusions, disperse them: this country has become a terrorist state in every aspect - incl. taking foreign citizens as hostages https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/aug/15/russian-court-jails-us-russian-woman-for-12-years-over-50-charity-donation

Imagine spending $350 for "smart" shoes with self-lacing... only to lose the "smart" part
Honestly, these business practices continue to both amaze and irritate me (and I haven't mentioned the stupidity of having an app for your shoes) https://www.theverge.com/2024/7/4/24192184/nike-adapt-bb-shoes-sneakers-apple-android-app
