I was a child living in West Germany in the late 70s and early 80s.

The corrupt authority does not even have to have malicious intent; they just have to be wrong about at least one thing, and once you have a bad authority in the tent, the corruption can spread very quickly to the whole group. If you are using another form of morality, every moral decision is an independent decision, so if you want to corrupt a whole group, you have to corrupt each individual separately. However, if your group is using authority-based morality, then the entire group can be corrupted very quickly and easily. All you have to do is allow the wrong authority into the tent.

Yes, there are atheist organizations, but a lot of them have been gutted by infighting because a lot of leaders in those organizations sided with the "Four Horsemen," conservatives, and Evangelical Christians in culture war bullshit, so those organizations are weak and have low membership.

Back when they were advocates for separation of church and state, they were able to bring organizational muscle to the fight to protect religious minorities from persecution by the majority. Now they are the ones likely to be doing the persecuting, and modern Evangelicals probably don't remember what their forefathers experienced at the hands of the Puritans.

Then the 1960s happened. Evangelicals got mad about hippies and all the free love stuff. Eventually, they had a Stalin-style purge and got rid of liberals from national leadership positions.

Long ago, the Puritans used their majority control of local governments to persecute non-Puritans. In fact, this was what they came to America to do. One of their frequent victims of religious persecution from local governments was Evangelicals.

The word terrorist is used to denounce the weaker side when asymmetrical warfare tactics are used. Thus, simply using the term terrorist is done in defense of the stronger side in an asymmetrical conflict.
There's a word for military powers that occupy and control weaker nations and peoples: colonialism.

The problem with lying to the public is that there is a danger they might believe you.
You might think you understand the consequences of that alternate reality you constructed in their heads, but they will keep making decisions based on that alternate reality, and eventually you will run into a long term effect that you didn't anticipate and be unable to get them to stop.
Totalitarians will punish those who don't believe the lies, not understanding the danger.

Politicians do deliberately use dog whistles to manipulate white people into voting for stupid things, but I'm sure some politicians are unwittingly spreading bullshit. Some of what racism is happens at a subconscious level.
With the media, it's hard to tell how much of it is deliberate and how much is just because they themselves are more racist than they realize.

It's a lot deeper than just propaganda on Fox News.
More white Americans need to read books on the history of racism in America. A lot of racism is self-perpetuating, and it is a means to allow wealthy people to manipulate white people.
Racists are self-hating white people spreading the means of their own enslavement. They spread it to other white people, thinking it benefits them, when the real beneficiaries are the wealthy. They just get hurt less than minorities.

If you want to understand what's going on in the US, I would suggest reading books about the history of racism in the US.
Since before the Revolution, the function of racism here is to allow the wealthy to manipulate white people into voting against our economic self-interest.
As with religion, those wearing the leash spread it to others. If you try to talk people out of it, they don't want to listen to you because the leash makes them feel good.

There are a very large percentage of the population living uncomfortably near or below the poverty line, which is far less than someone needs to actually live.
A lot of people in THAT demographic listened to the mainstream media when they made it sound like Trump would bring prices down and make life more affordable.
A lot of the people in that group are working multiple jobs and don't have time to read a newspaper. When the mainstream media turns into Fox, they have no defense.😣

Those farmers are pretty wealthy and educated, and they knew damn well what would happen as a result of their votes.
Yes, the people wealthier than them are more to fault for this. The billionaires are far more responsible than the millionaires.
