I agree. He's referenced this quoted section from "They'Thought They Were Free" before. I know because I found the idea so remarkable, I had to painstakingly transcribe it so I could show it to others.
I remember asking myself at points over these years of Trump if this was the moment I and those like me around the country were losing the war. It inspired me to try harder and remind myself and others of the need to act.

This implies it isn't wrong when they do it to noncitizens.
It is always wrong to do violence to people who, in these arrests, are just going about their day peacefully before being attacked.
It is wrong to capture and imprison people for assumed civil infractions, which is what entering the US illegally is. And it is wrong to assume they are guilty of a civil infraction due to their skin color, which is what Kavanaugh stops are.

"Larry H. Miller served on various community boards, where he'd get stipend checks that he'd cash and store away in a suitcoat pocket tucked in a closet of their home. It was money they'd set aside for any unexpected costs throughout the year, he'd explain.
"'We used that money to help individuals throughout the year when we saw a small need — something that could use a few hundred dollars, maybe. And then, whatever was left at the end of the year, we'd use to support families at Christmastime,' recalled Gail Miller, co-founder of the Larry H. Miller Company and chair of The Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation.
"Looking back on it now, that suitcoat pocket became practice for philanthropy and the 'spirit of giving,' she added."
This story is nuts to me. This had to have been at a time when he was successful enough to get invited on boards. That's means he at least owned one car dealership. Probably more.
Yet, he kept his thousands in stipends from the boards in cash at home for whatever and sometimes that whatever was charity.
This woman is currently a billionaire. She owns several sports teams as well as car dealerships and theaters. She thinks that was a relatable, feel-good story. She thinks giving $10 million to homeless services in a state where her power alone could positively affect housing and tax policy is something laudable. This is pulling out loose change effort for a crisis affecting hundreds of thousands.
This is a story reported by a #TCoJCoLDS #LDS #Mormon church owned news affiliate. This church takes 10% tithing of all members and mostly uses it for itself and its investing while it claims to use it for charity. That's #Utah for you.

This is a great article. It made me think about the content I'm consuming. Especially this sentence:
"What you never feel is genuinely confronted with something that makes you question your assumptions or change your behavior."
I do consume media that makes me question my assumptions. They're mostly podcasts. They've grown their own podcasting networks, either informally (anyone who has November Kelly as a host or even a guest on their podcast) or formally (Cool Zone Media). Some are connected to more traditional sources (Dissent Magazine's Know Your Enemy or Slate Media's Amicus). I started with The Dollop and You're Wrong About and theur formats informing me of real history and people I didn't learn in school or in mainstream news. I expanded out from there.
Basically, I don't watch TV at all, except when visiting family. I support my favorites of these pods mostly through Patreon, which is a flawed system, as they surely take a cut of the proceeds. That's how most of my favorites can exist. Either that or ads, depending on what they're willing to put up with surrounding their content.
@npub1wkr…yvj6 makes good points in this article, though. It doesn't make for a common culture that can build a movement. It's reliant on people being able to focus on content, which I can't always do, depending on my work. It's funding is limited and dependent on getting and keeping audiences.

I can attest it took me about 2 years of financial stability for that ambient constant anxiety level to finally settle down. I was only financially unstable for 2 years in my mid 20s. So that's 4 years of adverse health effects. My only two traffic citations occurred in that period, too. When I could least afford the fines.

I remember watching for years, reading about the mortgage-backed securities and house flipping and banks lending to people with no down payment mortgages on houses they couldn't afford. It took years expecting the bubble to burst and then when it did, I was surprised so many people were surprised.

As a #USU #Alumnus, I am again called on to denounce my university.
No, it's not about a coach saying raped students lie or a series of cases where USU failed to follow #TitleIX. This time it's about the whole of Cache Valley being told to attack a person living on campus because she dared to take an RA job.
I lived in Merrill Hall. I remember how accessible the units are. I remember repeatedly having to lock our front door because my roommates had just popped out for a minute and there was a guy going around trying the locks in the all women residential hall.
I am furious and embarrassed that USU, Utah legislators, and the weirdo ex-cop who's made a living on LGBT hate and antimasking in a pandemic.
Maybe focus on your actual threats to safety, USU. You know, your unending rapes and domestic/intimate partner violence on and off-campus. Not a young woman just trying to live her life and not harming anyone.

Vanguard just put out a notice that some of their index funds that had previously been "diversified" could now be seen as "non-diversified" because of their overweighing in tech stocks.
That's a problem for those who believe there's an AI balloon about to burst. And with cyber polluting the market, there's a lot more variability than there used to be and more risk of a greater fall.

You're awfully naive of the motives of your compatriots. Stein blithely pretends that she and Putin are not aligned, but she knows Russia supported and worked for her in 2016 and does so again in 2024. She accepts the nihilists as she accepts anyone who will support her goal against Democrats.
She'll be protected, so why should she care what happens with Trump's return? She'll fade away as she did last time Trump took power.

"Slowed down" is in reference to how quickly it's rotating: Category 5 to Cat 3.
This can happen when a hurricane hits land, but it's not 100% certain.
As for being "punked". No. We weren't. We were given a prediction of the future from current data. As we got closer to landfall, the predictions were updated.
By its nature, even an educated guess is still a guess. And a hurricane has many ways it can kill. Not just winds and storm surges, but flooding. It's much better to respond to the threat and warn people to evacuate than guess it'll go better and it goes worse.
