You mean "I have never . . .?" Joke's on you dude. I started in MS-DOS and C, worked in C++ and Perl for a few years, then wrote a bunch of Python and a whole bunch of SQL and PL/pgSQL ( on PostGIS). Plus of course the mandatory bash, make, ANT, (F)lex, Yacc (Bison), and other small languages. I wrote some games in Lua for fun, and I'm currently hacking away on OpenSCAD.
I won't say I'm a *good* coder, but I'll say I am a *professional* one. I'm over 65 .

Best reference for questions like this is _The_Ants_ ( Brent Holldobler, E. O. Wilson, Harvard University Press, 1990 ). Ant *nests* communicate with each other -- fire ant nests establish mutual boundaries at least.
Ant workers communicate through chemical signals, either aerosol or through contact. I believe their communications with other ants are limited to IFF and prey/slave raiding.

The ( eusocial ) colony is the reproductive unit. So ants are more analogous to our cells than to actual organisms with independent thoughts. Don't let their size fool you.

Haven't used Windows in many years, but my Debian box does fine for all those things, plus 3D design ( OpenSCAD, FreeCAD ), 2D art ( Inkscape ), some light audio production ( Audacity ), and of course the usual round of website maintenance ( mostly SSH) and miscellaneous coding ( EMACS + make ).
What's not to like?

Wut? I play recorder. It's a full 2 octave chromatic instrument, plus maybe one or two more notes on the high end if you're daring. That's around 25 notes. Highland pipes are diatonic instruments with an octave and a ninth range. You get 10 notes, that's it. Medieval bagpipes and most other folk bagpipes are also diatonic 1-octave instruments. So no, bagpipe fingering is way simpler than recorders.

Loved this when I read it on your site. You didn't mention on-line therapy companies like betterhelp and teladoc, which have their own set of risks. Search for "teladoc privacy scandals" for an eyeful.
The only safe therapy option is in-person visits with an actual therapist who will respect your privacy. Anything else is fraught with truly ugly risks.

I wrote a terminal program on my 1200 baud modem back in the '80's. Alas, the Sanyo 555 I was using at the time had just one UART for both keyboard and serial port, so it would consistently drop characters when the buffer overflowed.

Welp, I installed Debian 12 on my wife's old Macbook Pro from around 2012. I can still access MacOS by booting with <<option>> pressed. MacOS won't read ext4, but I did set up a small HPFS+ partition on the Linux side that it can read from.
The machine is quite slow to boot but usable once it's running. I'm an experienced Linux guy, so I just Did the Thing. I don't remember any particular hang-ups tho.

Oh, I absolutely don't. Been using Debian as a daily driver for over a decade. And I share your goal of Linux for Everyone. I've even got llama on one of my machines. But LLMs lie, and its unlikely that can be prevented. And poisoning the training data is a really interesting vulnerability.

Very interesting read. The last privacy law passed in the USA was the Video Privacy Protection act in 1988. It made it illegal for video store clerks to reveal your rental history. The idea that congress or anyone else will move to protect US citizens' data in the near future is amusing.

My MB died but not my drives. I keep $HOME on a separate drive from my OS. When I replaced the motherboard it couldn't boot the old Debian 10. But I wiped and installed 12 and everything pretty much Just Worked. The only major pain was reinstalling all my packages from the new repo, and I could do that as the need arose.

I later converted over to2nd Edition (1988), which brought some welcome refinements to the language (Prototyping! Variable declarations not at the top of the function!).
It's still my Milk Tongue, although I code a lot of Python and, more recently, Lua.
