Downloaded Fedi today and joined a federation and moved a few Sats over. Pretty easy experience. I like the idea of increased privacy with a trade off in custody which I find acceptable for walking around money. I also like to support builders who are going to keep us a step ahead of the state.

Since Strike updated their limits I started taking my whole pay in bitcoin and then a couple of days before the end of the month selling just enough to cover my bills and to zero my credit card balance. As shown in the graph my stack in BTC is generally increasing over time. Also the fiat value of my stack after 4 months is equal to 31% of my yearly take home pay. In effect I have been living for free. To do this you need regular income and to spend less than you earn and some savings so you can stomach the volatility.

I try to protect myself from this by sending 100% of my pay to bitcoin and then just convert a bit to fiat at the end of the month to cover my bills. So in effect I am reversing the attack by limiting the fiat I send to banks.

I like to think of it in block rewards. If you had a whole block subsidy from the first epoch, 50 BTC, you would be made now. If you have a whole block subsidy from the second epoch you probably need to wait one more cycle to fully escape fiat. So any amount will be fine, just 4 epochs later.

Tradies work hard so they should insist on being paid in hard money. Like professional athletes tradies run the risk of injury pausing or halting their careers so a stack of bitcoin that grows in purchasing power is a good safety net. Accepting bitcoin is also a differentiating point that will appeal to potential customers that are Bitcoiners. I would hire a Bitcoin tradie over a normie. Tradies are a great way to boost the circular economy.

Yup this is the way. Five years ago I had some spare cash. Half I put in bitcoin half I put into single family rental properties. Bitcoin is just so much better. I convert all my pay to bitcoin then cover my monthly expenses with a credit card. Once a month I sell enough bitcoin to zero out the credit card . This way I have maximum exposure to bitcoin for the longest time. Only 12 sales per year so not too hard for taxes.

A couple of business days before the end of the month I sell just enough bitcoin to pay off my complete credit card bill to avoid interest and to put enough in my checking account to cover my mortgage. Yup so the lost ones are effectively out of circulation. So in practice your portion of the available is greater. Like gold in a ship wreak at the bottom of the ocean, it exists, but can’t really be used in trade.
