it's just quite hard because this has been my happy place for a long time.
Due to a plethora of reasons including the ones I mentioned, it's starting to be no longer the case and I have to actively seek out something else to do.
Like earlier, I said I'd be taking a few days away.

If so, unfortunately with the way they have a habit of muddying their own definitions of things to confuse people into thinking *everything* there is BlueSky owned, I doubt they'd add something like BridgyFed to this list.
It will make people aware of Fediverse and why it's a better system for some and might cause people to actually come to Fedi proper.🤷‍♂️
One could hope though.
One could also hope that Ryan, creator of BridgyFed, would ignore the Fedi scrutiny and turn off the opt-in bullshit and actually make it opt-out like the rest of Fediverse.
He said it's a possibility, but I won't count on any of these things and just feel like we'll never actually get to full cross platform open communication.
Even with Threads, they admitted it'll probably never happen, which is quite sad.

🤔which device plstform are you using?
I am on iOS and there's several I use that have a filter feature that you can turn on that filters whatever you want, boosts, replies, quote posts, etc. So that you can see only the people you follow and their replies or any combination you prefer. The ones I use daily are IceCubesApp and Ivory.

just a tip. When copying and pasting YouTube links, if you use the short link like you did here you could save some grief by removing everything after the ?
It's tracking info, which if you're logged into Nostr and youtube on the same device and click a link on Nostr to YouTube with the tracking, it "links" your Nostr account to your YouTube account on their backend.
If you use the full link (https://m.youtube.com/watch?si=XUQNlADkb1sNyosp&v=D4ZjtzlgSf4)
Then you'd have to remove "SI=longstringoftext&" which would leave only the video.
An alternate idea is to just paste the link into https://invidi.link and hit "Go random" and then share the link it sends you to. Those sites will never have tracking, no matter what's in the link.

Fediverse hasn't widely adopted full text search, so hashtags are the easiest way to find new people to follow.
Also, remember that this isn't *only* Mastodon. This is the Fediverse with MANY different softwares here with many different features.
If you refer to everything as Mastodon, we'll just end up like Twitter where one asshole is in charge.

The block celebratory culture here is quite dumb...
Fedi is definitely good for connecting with people and having discussions.
However, if anything happens to go awry, your chances of being Fediblocked and having the entirety of Fedi celebrate your mass blocking, are quite high, and it's really shitty and weird.
Usually, admins don't go to Fediblock to check for mishaps, updates, or changes. Once someone is blocked, they're blocked.
Use Fediblock for the worst of the worst. In it's current state of blocking people for sneezing wrong, it's useless.

So, I think I've come to the conclusion that hosting a managed Pixelfed instance JUST for my images isn't very cost effective...🤷‍♂️
It's about $20-30 on Elest.io but I can just host them myself on Cloudflare for $10.
Oh well. Good experiment.

There are better workarounds depending on your platform.
If you're on Windows, you can use Graze, a browser extension that allows you to interact with the post directly from their instance.
Mona on iOS also lets you do this, I think.

also, to touch on the "running your own instance" thing...honestly, I don't think it would be good for you.
EVERYTHING is "opt-out". Meaning, since there's dozens of new instances every day, there's also a handful of bad ones every week. So you'd have to literally live on Fediblock and Fediseer and make sure to stay on top of Oliphant's updates.
It would be quite stressful, I think.
I don't even do all of those things because they're too much to keep up with. However, I am not a visually impaired transgirl with major depression, anxiety, and past addiction issues, if you know what I mean. Hospitals and doctors here are ridiculous.
They told my dad last week that if the defibrillation didn't work, they'd do an ablation. However, when the defibrillation didn't work, they gave him medicine to slow down his heart rate, then when his heart rate slowed down, they sent him home!!!
Now he still can't breathe and his heart rhythm is still out of whack, so we're back at a different hospital that's about to send him home without doing anything!🤬
Ridiculous...I'm so exhausted from all of this nonsense.

it's the people that run it and the people that are there that I dislike, not the platform itself. Though, since the owner and the platform are tied to each other, I cannot seperate the two at the moment.
I can't support the company because I can't support the owner.
I feel as though people that share links and screenshots are only helping to make people want to be there. The more people that are there, the more they stand to make from ad revenue.

Mastodon Devs aren't the best at thinking about these sort of things.
Hell, they barely have moderation tools beyond "if you see something you don't like, you can remove it". However, if you own the server and don't want to be held responsible for any nonsense that some random might post at any point, you're pretty screwed unless you have eyes on everything your server ingests, 24 hours a day.🤦‍♂️

well, I mean instead of re-uploading the image and "re-creating" the post, just copy the link and paste the link to the post in a new post that you make.
Easier than downloading and re-uploading the image, and you can add CW, context, your own comment, etc.

It's not as easy as just attaching a CW, but if you really want to share something, it does the job, I think.

This is mostly mastodon.social and it's been doing this for awhile now. You're right, it's getting worse...
I've been personally blocked by Eugen for calling out his nonsense. They almost monopoly on Fedi (72% of all instances are Mastodon) and it's starting to take it's toll.

it's probably holding on to a LOT of user profile pics and header images. I suggest this script by @npub1yfx…907w to clear out storage easily, with 1 recommended change.
instead of using "tootctl media remove --remove-headers", I recommend "tootctl media remove --prune-profiles" which will remove profile pics and headers. This also should work with the "--days" argument, though I've never tried it.

That's the thing, it's not a "violation" in the same sense that an inappropriate image might be.
Copyright is a civil matter. You won't go to jail for copyright infringement unless it's value is over a certain amount usually. Even then, it's different in every country and since these companies are in no place to put a value on someone's work, and usually operate in many countries, they need to step aside and let the parties deal with it themselves.
When you're making a claim for something you own, you're not telling them "this is against the rules/they're breaking the law", you're telling them "this person is violating my rights, if you don't want to participate in violating my rights, you need to take this down".
I hope this makes sense and explains it. Though, I understand your frustration of seeing stuff that probably shouldn't be there because they're violating someone's rights.

That's pretty much everywhere, no?
If it's not yours, you don't have the legal right to sue, and since copyright is a civil matter, the way most of these corporations work is, "if it's a civil matter between 2 entities, we take it down until it's resolved" because if they got involved, they'd have to get involved in every case.
Since you don't have any legal basis for a lawsuit, I don't think most companies would allow you to issue a claim. Besides maybe Youtube. I don't know exactly how Youtube's claim system works, but I constantly hear people complaining about false strikes.

If it's straight complete racist nonsense, I don't reply. However, if they randomly throw the N word in randomly, I just respond like they didn't say it.

the easiest way to explain it, is like Nostr, but one relay holds and controls your keys instead of the relays distributing the keys across the network. This gives more power to the server owners who can ban users for any reason they want.

That's me. On my own site, all by myself. Yet, I am able to talk to you on Nostr via the Momostr.pink bridge AND I can talk to others on the 25,000+ Fediverse "sites".
Basically the point for me, is to be able to promote myself on my own site, but still be able to talk to others on other sites, without someone else being in control of who I can or cannot talk to. I am in control of me.
