datum users mine on their own block templates, 95%+ of hashrate on OCEAN uses datum
the OCEAN default template was announced to signal for 110 prior to the split (flipping bit4). The confusion during the split was which chaintip that template chose to mine on. some thought it would have been signaling bit4 on the antpool chaintip since it became longer; OCEAN announced they got refunded a few days later

repeating bacon (or any of the other 2047 bip39 words) with an additional passphrase would be only marginally safer as a plain brainwallet (sha256 of a passphrase) which isnt safe at all.
pratically a passphrase 'strong' enough may not easier to remember than seed words
it's not advisable to do rely on passphrases because the speed and cost for checking brainwallets (and its variations) can only get cheaper overtime

ibd is faster on the newer versions compared to the older ones because the assumevalid bypasses validation for much of the spam of the last 3 years.
v28 - block 856760 (august 2024)
v29 - block 886157
v30 - block 912683 (september 2025)
theres incremental improvements for assumevalid=0 across versions but insignificant to most hardware

theres also that funky period between mandatory flagging and rule enforcement where miners (regardless of their stance on arbitrary data) scratch their head about whether or not to risk blocks being thrown away for the sake of flipping one bit 😅

wouldnt you be able to lean on torrents' infohashes to make sure the data remains the same?
why not pay people bitcoin to perpetually seed torrents? wouldnt that effectively be the same thing without all the technical limits of misusing the bitcoin blockchain and the overhead of validating blocks with irrelevant data for this use case?

since DATUM became available, economics of buying hashrate has improved marginally by removing some of the opacity in pooled mining. rather than keep track of work/shares on a pool's dashboard (trusting them), users can figure out reward splits on their own from their own block templates.
previously the only way to buy hashrate and minimize these arbitrary costs and risk was to lottery solo mine but not enough legitimate hashpower has ever been available to consistently find rewards so that hashrate went to larger pools instead.
Cloud Mining scams basically sat in the middle between hashers and pools, it never made sense because those services add an arbitrary cost on top of pool fees. The opportunity for the scams come from preying on customers who dont know how to check if they got what they paid for. (and some of those scams never actually mined)

ive seen people stretch out disk space by moving the large, seldomly-accessed blocks/ folder to a separate disk (often slower) then run bitcoind with blocksdir parameter set so you can keep using your old disk alongside an external drive
i dont know about btcpayserver or albyhub specifically, but imo if you're running a lightning node like LND, you probably dont want to prune your node especially if you have channel states that could fall beyond however long you're pruning for.

another example of philosophy flip-flopping (caveat: Core isnt a monolith -- different contributors now) are the comments Core made on compact block filters.
when compact block filters was announced it was to announce to miners/pools to implement them in order to more closely align with the p2p network. at the time fees were elevated, as some exchanges and pools were stuffing blocks (perhaps to make an argument for big blocks). "follow the <compact block filters> p2p network or risk your blocks being orphaned".
this got turned on its head with the OP_Return PR. "node's compact block filters should follow what the miners are mining"
i think those that throw the word gaslighting around Core proponents is because they arent goldfish 🧐

2026-02-21 17:37:11 GMT

- reply

nope, not a hardfork. bip110 uses existing consensus rules rather than adding new ones making it compatible with all nodes on the network
nodes that enforce bip110 would not ever see the offending block as valid, making the enforcing node only ever compatible with one side of the chainsplit.
nodes that dont enforce bip110 remain compatible with both , but only one side of the chainsplit carrying perpetual wipeout risk. both sides of the chainsplit ultimately cant coexist without a hard fork present
a hardfork would explicitly reject bip110 blocks which would be adding a rule.

2026-02-21 16:25:58 GMT

nothing pedantic about it, bet all you want, that's not a hard fork

feel free to avoid hypocrisy by voicing support for a ursf/hardfork instead

2026-02-21 15:01:49 GMT

- reply

its a soft fork because all current versions of Bitcoin remain compatible with bip110 blocks as it is using exisiting consensus rules and not adding new ones

i believe any scenario is far from certain and bip110 doesnt present any harm

2026-02-08 05:55:25 GMT

- reply

ultimately without a coinciding ursf to bip110, the chainsplits cannot coexist.
its just the same utxo set.
functionally, you're not going to be able to interact with the network(s) properly as there would exist no mechanism to prevent your tx to not replay on all networks.
the idea that a stalled bip110 attempt creates an opportunity for proponents to forward bitcoins to detractors is wishful thinking 😅 or possibly pure avarice

2026-02-08 05:41:01 GMT

- reply

its not, bip110 blocks remain compatible with exisiting nodes on the network which is why there exist the possibility of wipeout (however small). the wipeout risk wouldnt be solved without a solution like your checkpoint, which is a forced upgrade.
ursf to bip110 isnt a softfork

2026-02-08 03:20:09 GMT

im pretty sure chinese teacups have no handles because of their generally smaller size and unique shape which makes handles unnecessary.
non-fermented tea (green tea) lightly fermented teas (oolongs, aged white teas) are often brewed at higher too-hot-to-handle temperatures 90c-95c which some choose to enjoy at to get the full spectrum of flavor.
the design of a good tea cup have thin flared edges for faster heat dissipation which isnt present in coffee mugs or western tea cups. there's also a specific "three point grip" to enjoy freshly brewed tea.
so chinese tea cup is less about teaching patience, more so teaching how to enjoy tea properly using physics 😂

your simple checkpoint doesnt address the older nodes on the network from re-org risk which would be a forced upgrade. checkpoints to invalidate valid chain(s) of blocks would be a hard fork

there wont be any bip110 coins though 😅 thats not how soft forks work

are there less bugs/pests up there too?🤔
random tea fact: in taiwan tea leaves grown at higher elevations are sought after because the leaves are more nutrient dense from growing slower, but there is specialized tea called oriental beauty (東方美人) which despite grown at lower altitudes holds high demand because it undergoes additional natural fermentation with bugs that feed off them leaving compounds that make the tea unusually sweet on top of the fermentation-drying process in oolong tea 🤓

today drove out to miaoli, taiwan where they farm mitten crabs. mostly known as a delicacy in shanghai cuisine, these crabs were mostly known to be from the jiangsu province in china
https://img.tarounagi.tw/blossm/8cc5bfc9645acdbc32b840afa7fc5f3917c7513dd6cface7f11e076e49152ab4.jpg
mitten crabs mature in seawater and spawned in freshwater. during the fall months the mature crabs make their way back to where they come from.
taiwan has it's native hairy crab species, but for a couple decades the entrepreneurs in miaoli decided to farm the more sought species from across the strait.

in the core vs knots context, datacarrier encompasses more transactions in Knots than Core
in the only-looking at core v30 context, datacarrier now allows multiple outputs instead of one to be treated as standard transactions to relay across the network as unconfirmed transactions (among peers that also acknowledge those new standard rules)

im referring to the code comment change to datacarrier in v26 which limits datacarrier to outputs (meaning input-styled arbitrary data storage schemes like inscriptions would not be in scope)
on another note, v29.1 has the minrelay fee changes (reduced from 1 to .1) backported

depends on the crab.
these freshwater mitten crabs are mostly farmed, its sustainability comes down to economics as mitten crabs technically are invasive to Taiwan (taiwan has its own native species of hairy crabs 毛蟹 so ecological damage is somewhat limited)
ocean crabs have size requirements to meet and there are harvest quotas throughout the year -- there are even times out of the year where females aren't sold
