Hydrocarbon fuel sellers are owners of stranded assets, they have no future and they know it. They are flailing and want to take us all down with them.
Car sellers believe they have a future. Transport also needs to change, the car of the future will be electric.
It also needs to be smaller (or much bigger and be a bus) and it needs to be thrown out of all city limits – but that is a different discussion and we can have it without the hydrocarbon sellers.

These interests are who is orchestrating the various campaigns to keep cars with internal combustion engines "alive", seed fear, uncertainty and doubt over heat pumps and generally try to sabotage the electrification of industry and household.
Public discussion and media commentar in Germany fail to make this distinction and hence almost all analysis we can read falls short of providing proper insight.

When we are looking at messaging about "the german car industry killing itself by insisting on keeping the internal combustion engine alive past 2030" or similar initiatives, we are looking right at this fault line.
German car makers have – maybe with the exception of BMW – understood that there is no choice of technology and that the battery electric car already won.
But there are financial interests outside of the car industry that used to be aligned with it and no longer are.

Es kommt halt doch darauf an, wie man fragt.
Natürlich verweigert einem ChatGPT die Reproduktion von urheberrechtlich geschützten Figuren, wenn man mit Namen danach fragt.
Das ist so, weil die Namen auf Listen stehen und wenn die matchen wird abgeklemmt.
Aber wenn man Konzepte referenziert, ohne die gesperrten Namen zu erwahnen, dann wird geliefert

Was in solchen Gebieten funktioniert sind Fußgänger, Radler, und öffentlicher Personennahverkehr in Form von Kleinbussem, Bussen, Trams und U- und S-Bahnen.
Was mit solchen Verkehrsmodis ZUSAMMEN nicht funktioniert sind Autos mit mehr als 30 km/h.
Die Konsequenz ist, das Auto am Stadtrand in ein P+R zu stellen und wie alle anderen Städter eine der o.a. Modi zu nehmen.

Auf der anderen Seite kostet in einer Cloud ein DBaaS wesentlich mehr als ein NoSQL-Schreibtnix. Und die Datenbank ist durch distributed storage statt local storage auch writebehindert.
Das Konzept funktioniert dort so also nicht.
Also, außer man schnappt sich EC2 i3.8xl und macht selbst, wie Slack zum Beispiel.

unsere größte Replikationshierarchie hatte mehrere hundert Replikas pro Rechenzentrum.
Wir haben also alle die ganzen Cache-Layer gekickt und durch MySQL Instanzen ersetzt, bei denen wir sicher gestellt haben, daß die Reads aus dem Speicher kamen.
Wenn man mit einer solcher Datenbank korrekt redet, kriegt man "Redis Query Resolution Times", aber mit korrekter Persistenz, Kaltstart-Fähigkeit und mit der Option, nahtlos auf SQL zu gehen.

Wir haben jetzt also etwas, das tut, was ein memcached oder Redis als Cache Layer tut, mit einer 1/8000s Response Time.
Und es kann sinnvoll persistieren (oder, in 2024, nicht, indem man unlogged Tables verwendet), transaktional Updaten, und nahtlos von PK Point Lookups auf volles SQL hoch skalieren.
Und mit MySQL Replikation können wir die Read Capacity nahtlos hoch skalieren auf welches Niveau auch immer:

Wir haben uns dann mit MySQL zusammengesetzt – wir haben uns sowieso viermal im Jahr mit dem Vendor getroffen und über die Product Roadmap und unsere Bedürfnisse gesprochen. Und ein Wunsch, den wir hatten, war ein Warmstart von MySQL.
Den gibt es seit damals: MySQL kann die Liste der Pages im Speicher beim Shutdown abspeichern und dann ganz oder in Teilen beim Start wieder einlesen. Auf diese Weise kommt man mit einem nicht-kalten InnoDB Buffer Pool zurück.

Das MySQL kann, wenn man es so fährt wie ein Redis, auch Fragen einigermaßen flott beantworten:
Ein Primary Key Point Lookup eines einzelnen Wertes aus dem RAM wird als SQL Statement
SELECT id, col1, col2, col3, ...
FROM table
WHERE id = <const>
geschrieben und hat eine Query Resolution Time von 125µs (0.125 ms) oder so - 1/8000s.
Stellt sich raus, das war für unsere Zwecke schnell genug.

Die Caches waren alles Memcached und Redis.
Aber durch geschickte Bibliotheken waren sich auch für viele Entwickler transparent. Entsprechend war nicht unbedingt gut zu sehen, wo und warum etwas gecached worden ist.
An einer Stelle warf ich ein, warum wir denn überhaupt cachen und bekam die Antwort, daß das so ist, weil wir ja die Datenbank nicht überlasten wollten.
Nun ist es aber so, daß das alles Bare Metal war und eine Bare Metal Blade kostet gleich viel, egal …

2011 und 2012 hatten wir eine Reihe von Outages, weil das Reisebüro Hotelbuchungen mit falschen Preisen angezeigt hat.
Entwickler hatten interne Datenstrukturen angepaßt, aber beim Rollout vergessen, die entsprechenden Caches zurückzusetzen, Cache-Strukturen zusammen mit dem Code und den Datenbank-Tabellen anzupassen oder einfach nur Performanceprobleme, weil die Site mit kalten Caches nach einem Schwarzstart nicht funktionieren konnte.

geeinigt und am Ende hat mein Chef einen Haufen Stunden verkauft mit einem unversicherten SoW, das ungefähr lautet "Kris ist von 9-5 vor Ort und führt mit uns sinnvolle Gespräche über Datenbanken". Nunja.
Wie dem auch sei, als MySQL an Sun verkauft wurde hatte ich keinen Bock auf 35000 Kollegen und fing bei dem kleinen 500 Leute Reisebüro an, das dann schnell gar nicht mehr so klein war.
Dinge haben sich verändert, und neue Probleme tauchten auf.

In 2006 kam ich als MySQL Consultant zu einem kleinen Reisebüro in Amsterdam, mit einem Performance Tuning Auftrag.
Vor Ort stellt sich raus, die Performance von dem Ding ist ganz gut getuned und eigentlich wollen sie ein Konzept für 10x.
