My vision is to have this automatically happen every time you make a payment. So either ecash or lightning. Ecash tokens would be sent from your default / mint and then a mutlimint swap would be done in the background to balance everything.

Here’s a new design idea I’ve been working on for Cashu wallets to simplify multimint payments. Instead of manually entering amounts, users can set percentage allocations for each mint, and the wallet automatically manages future LN payments according to the allocation.
Users first set their target ratios for each mint, and the wallet then performs an initial multimint swap to balance the funds according to the distribution. Going forward, users won't have to enter manual payment amounts every time they make a payment.

This was really helpful. Some good edge cases to think through. Here’s my first impressions.
“So you send me ecash and from your end it is done, but for me…”
I don’t see the user experience ending for the sender once they hit send on the ecash token. While the token is being sent, the wallet should display “sending” because there’s more going on than just the sending part. First, the token gets generated. Then, it’s transmitted via Bluetooth. Finally, the receiver has to accept and actually receive it.
“I haven’t really accepted it yet. I trade it for a new ecash and if it works, I accept. If it fails, or if I don’t want to trust that mint, I reject. I could also reject it maliciously of course. If I report the payment as failed, then you can trade the ecash for a new one and if it fails, then there’s a problem. But in most cases, you just take back the funds and the payment is cancelled/rejected.”
We can solve this by separating the token generation from its successful receipt. So, when the user sends the ecash and the token is generated, that part is done. If the recipient rejects the payment or it fails because of Bluetooth interference, we can show a message that says, “Ecash token was successfully generated but failed to send. You can try sending this token again by viewing the token and selecting the airdrop option.”
“The problem case is interesting. Without p2pk and a timeout, there is no atomic payment and even with, there is no proof of payment like we have on lightning afaik. Are there any protocols or flows to address them?”
Not sure if I totally get this point but here's my thoughts: the atomic nature of ecash at the token generation stage. Once a token is generated, that’s final. For the user experience, after the token is generated and sent via Bluetooth, it will either be received successfully or it won’t. We’ll show a success or error message based on that. Once the airdrop attempt is done, the user will be sent back to the home screen. There, they will see the token as either redeemed or pending. It shows as redeemed (so it can’t be double-spent) if it was received successfully, or pending if it didn’t get to the recipient. They can then try sending the pending ecash token again via airdrop.

Been digging into Cashu mints a little deeper lately and got a much better grip on how they're set up. Mints let operators customize some meta data fields. This got me thinking about how these fields can be used in the UI to show important info to users. https://m.primal.net/IUMF.jpg
I used the bitcoin.design community UI kit to whip up quick concept of how a mint might display these fields to users. I'm really excited about the potential use cases for the MINT_INFO_MOTD (Message of the Day) field. https://m.primal.net/IUMJ.jpg
If mint operators use this for urgent messages, apps could show this as an in-line alert. This could be really helpful for sharing important updates like downtime or future shutdowns. Some people have thrown out an idea of a mint that automatically rugs after certain amount of time. Alerts could be really useful here. If a wallet detects a MOTD, it could display it on launch or send a push notification. Gotta think about the risks and potential misuse too.

Ecash on bitcoin improves on custodians wrt to censorship and privacy. With ecash the data is the money - this allows for push UX that lets us to design much better user experiences that we couldn’t do with traditional lightning. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good. I don’t reject custodial solutions because they aren’t perfect. I don’t reject bitcoin because it’s not perfect. The reality is that many people (even bitcoiners who self-custody) prefer to use custodial services despite their trade offs.

I think when it’s come to the unit account most wallet just the $€£¥. The term ecash is meant to distinguish the mechanism and properties of this money. For example, if I’m buying a beer at Pubkey. I may ask ask to pay with cash (physical paper money issued by a central bank) or ecash (Fedimint, Cashu, or other protocol).
If you’re using an ecash wallet, I agree it’s not needed to display $3.50 ecash. Just $3.50 works because it is understood that this money exists within the ecash ecosystem.

BIP389 would be a significant improvement. Right now, a user needs to provide both a receive descriptor and a change descriptor. BIP389 encodes this into one descriptor. This would make watching a multisig wallet as simple as copying and pasting an xpub.

Spent the weekend exploring designs for showing stable assets like USD, EUR on Cashu. A challenging edge case: when users have different assets within a mint, and also spread across different mints. Cross-mint interoperability for stable assets makes my mind melt.

I love Macadamia! I'll take a deeper look at their information architecture. My biggest concern with using "mint" as an action to create ecash is how the word can be confused with an ecash mint. I'd also like to see how users react to 4 options. It makes sense to me ,but I worry about less ecash fluent users.
