this went down just after that “hacked” SEC tweet approving the Bitcoin ETF
it was a thread that mentioned Bitcoin and I posted that it takes great “opsec” to keep one’s wallet secure and that it’s just way too difficult for most people
and this furry shows up and says his ears peaked because I said “opsec” and he just graduated from Johns Hopkins and his professor is chief of the FBI and hates Bitcoin
then for about ten seconds he posts a copy of his diploma for some reason !
I’m like, this is kinda freaky but I may as well ask so I respond
that’s too bad, at least it’s great Bitcoin isn’t seen anymore as some sort of criminal enterprise that should interest your professor anyway — better handled by the SEC and FED, right?

on the Fox News YouTube feed I watch for when they do just feeds from hearings, etc. there is one African American woman anchor and she is “doing her job” fielding these interviews, particularly on what’s happening in the Middle East. absolutely feel for her because the pundits she has on to interview supposedly giving those explanatory perspectives are always right on the cusp of flipping out if not fed exactly what they are looking for. must be very exhausting maintenance of a particular message completely divorced from reality.

you’ll most likely enjoy Hesse. was formative.
there might be a way to extract more value from permaculture than regular agriculture. one permaculture practitioner was able to command higher prices for his chickens once word got around and people asked for “the chickens that roost in trees”. this was such a novel descriptor that worked wonders for word of mouth marketing yet that is what chickens do if given the chance.
am familiar with the “rational agents” definition for parties engaging in game theory. though reasoning individuals make up a society and reasoning requires the exchange of information, even dialogue. game theory predicates on gambling on the opposing party’s ignorance to derive value or seeming advantage. this is my main issue of incompatibility with rational agents disrupting society for profit. it is very effective at accomplishing this with punitive measures inextricably imposed without a determination of guilt or innocence as in the prisoner’s dilemma. it’s the perfect survival strategy in a totalitarian system where the house always wins.

I do have some experience with permaculture although never seen anyone make even close to the money farming in this way than a one minute speculation in the Bitcoin market or other securities can close out. just vastly different time scales. supposedly the practice does produce better quality food and serve as a bridge environment to wildlife which theoretically could be captured in land value. It definitely is more labor intensive and lower yield while more diverse.
I’m fairly allergic to game theory as I was brought up with a family tradition that could be considered almost puritan regarding their view of gambling. The best deal being where everyone walks away happy to deal another day, while outsize wins are severely frowned upon while losses are expected to endure scrutiny.
The state being seen as an adversary rather than an arbiter only really denotes failure of function such is symptomatic with corruption and cronyism when I go to vote or think about policy proposals.

In an ideal commerce environment reputation would only define trust that this is a real identity and not an impersonation along with a rating on completed transaction for survives or goods. The social reputation distorts this because something like a denial of service attack on a reputation that costs nothing to orchestrate could knock out a competing product or service. This leads to cronyism which might attract the eyes of regulators to such a purported platform engaged in commerce because cronyism distorts prices and stifles competition (maybe not for the apps as OP pointed out but for the users engaged in commerce).
Nostr currently is not engaged in much actual commerce and is more akin to a sponsorship level of monetary exchange. The reputation value for seeking sponsors or subscribers rather than customers are completely different. A customer wants a product and that product to fulfill a need. A subscriber is feeding an addiction. Someone seeking a sponsor is promising value based on how reputation is defined on a social rather than commerce basis.

How are you gauging reputation? I haven’t seen that much commerce happen here like say a place like eBay where actual transacting customers give feedback reputation. Nostr seems much more open forum for discussion such as bluesky which now even though no commerce happens on the site has a third party reputation profile tagging system - profiles also defined by encryption keys. This means that a chance political discussion can earn a tag that is seen site wide on all your communications from past to future. Would this reputation system based not on commerce but on discussion not just be gamed by people with opposing political views creating an environment that is stagnant and silent since so little actual commerce is actually happening?

alright let’s try a different tack then. Venezuela was a petrostate financed by burning fossil fuels. If as you say the removal from Venezuelan oil from the market resulted in declining birth rates in Venezuela we have the crux of your disagreement.
If you think pumping excess carbon out of the ground is necessary for humanity to prosper and multiply then this is your view.
If women working say installing solar panels or wind mills alongside men to try to come to a sustainable balance then that is another aspect to your opinion.
Mothers have an innate insight into the resources required for raising children that far surpasses that of men. This point your trad view should acknowledge.
Feminism and climate change research are two fields that give voice to that insight and find ways to extrapolate resources available to the global atmosphere. Having that knowledge may decrease birth rates in the near term yet perhaps there is a means to manage a transition to a more sustainable future?
Pump more oil, make more babies does not seem to have much innovative thought towards the future.

Not really. She laid out very clearly a different economic model. Elon promises a service for a userbase which he bought with Saudi investment dollars. He said he would improve that service yet instead has degraded it and made it more expensive for the users. He has made certain promises about spam / impersonation bots degrading that experience but has taken the path to harvest personal information when users try to report them.
The fact that you are throwing shade on a very logical assessment seems to imply that either you did not read the post in good faith and / or that you have some other ulterior motive accusing her of inaccuracy and bias.
That is sad.
