Yes; it's a normal part of the process. Sometimes the crush is the non-romantic type, sometimes it's romantic. I kinda need to crush on my characters in order to want to write about them.
I've written stories without crushing on the characters and it comes out very dry and it was painful to write.

Why query agents? To be published, to make money, to reach the widest possible audience.
The first I can do myself. The second is, as we speak, becoming an urban legend: the writer who makes a good income from writing. As for the last, I can't reach everyone. I can reach some. 5 readers are as important and impressive as a million.

My therapist read a one-act of mine entitled "Frank Lee Anne" (about a trans girl living in a walk-in closet and obsessed with Anne Frank). She loved it and went nuts over it. It made SO uncomfortable. My thank yous were mechanical, as I'd had praise before. It's very difficult interacting with people who like my work. Some have been intense and weird. I don't know how to deal with that.

I have no idea. But, now that I think about it, mixed metaphors sound kinda fun. They create a disconnect, as if the reader suddenly pauses and thinks, "What?" They could be funny, but they could be insightful.

If we're teaching/learning poetry, what exactly are we using as learning materials? Other poems, presumably. You'd have to know how to read as deep comprehension of language and grammar. Metaphors.
You should know what poetry isn't. So, study all other forms of writing and see the differences.
You should understand yourself and others and read everyone like a text. Be self-aware.

CW Coaching can be misunderstood. Just because someone writes, even has written a lot, the coaching is still helpful.
Think of it like exercises: the creative muscles need to do some jazzercise or they get stiff.

To begin writing seriously? My high school junior year English teacher. We had a close relationship that was not appropriate. He would go on about how good a writer I was. He encouraged me to write erotica. He'd read me his novels before and after school. Probably a lot like Miller's Girl, but without the sex. Despite this unglamorous, quagmire of manipulation, I walked away with a genuine love for writing and belief in myself.

How do you feel about Amazon's influence on books and publishing?
I think anything that combines art and money is heinous. I have a socialist/communist philosophy of art: like medical care, everyone should have it for free.
That being said, and speaking from our current reality, Amazon has some good points. Like all corporations, they don't care about art at fucking all, let alone artists.
My books are on Amazon and I should do something about that. 😬

I'll talk about just one because he's difficult. Gaja, the medieval pirate/barber surgeon. Rumored to be a Sri Lankan prince. He's modeled after a childhood friend who died by suicide when we were 14/15. He's been popping up regularly in everything I write. It seems like an unconscious compulsion. It's a strange form of processing as I don't control it.

Writing. I've focused more on that than anything else in my life. Not just actual writing, but theory and criticism. I collect words. I have degrees in it. I examine everything in terms of how something is written. I've always cared more about writing itself and thinking about it than getting published or produced. When I finish one project I immediately begin another. I've never wanted anything else.

She unnerves me, honestly.

Yes, and it's difficult to handle sometimes. I've read speculation that there's some link to #autism and #synesthesia. It's always been like this and I wouldn't change it. I can't visualize much about my characters, but I can feel everything vividly. Sometimes, because of this, they seem more real to me than people I've known.

I'm trying to understand why an explicit scene is needed. What does that say about the characters? Is it a moment of extreme vulnerability in which we see something different in them? But so many sex scenes are identical. Lots of huffing and puffing and tits and ass.
Nothing that happens after can be the same as before. Not just events but values and goals. They have to be different with each other

Oy, X. Okay, book: Dying in Passion. Set in Pompeii months before the eruption of Vesuvius. It has black magic, human sacrifice, cannibalism, graphic sex across all orientations, incest, extreme violence (but nothing that isn't considered "main stream acceptable"), rape...I feel like I'm forgetting something...
I think of it in terms of the film Caligula and the dazzling Helen Mirren. I would cast her in a second.

Sure, you have the miscommunication silliness when a girl dresses as a boy and the boy falls in love with her DESPITE(?) that he has only known her as a man. Elizabethan trans storylines are deeply problematic.

I have faith that the astronomers, who I have never met, know enough about the science to know if Hades does exist, and if they tell us this is so, I will believe them. If I go to Hades, this could qualify as a fact, but I could be having a hallucination so then, not a fact, but possibly still a truth if I believe the astronomers.

During the medieval plague, a priest has been killed by a mob in a church after preaching that the plague is punishment for their sins. The scene involves a main character after she's been told what's happened. This vibrant, bubbly woman is sitting in shock. They had had a complicated relationship. The plain silence of her pain is agonizing.
I cried for ten minutes after writing this scene. My reaction scared me a little 😂
