@npub1kpw…xzz4 I'm not so sure about "overwhelming majority", these seem to be not that uncommon once you learn to recognise the symptoms. There is a problem with people assuming them, self-diagnosing and overall subconsciously Munchausening themselves for attention, yeah, but there's also a large pool of fairly high functioning adults who never got diagnosed when it was taboo and now are discovering it in a big wave as awareness spreads.

@npub1kpw…xzz4 for WM I’ve been using Plasma’s Wayland session for way over a year too, I adapted PipeWire early though and had no problems with screenshots or the like, only rare WM crashes and restarts. But these gradually stopped over updates and now I haven’t had a problem for months now, maybe even half a year.
The fact that SDDM still used X and so my system still autostarted it just to display the login manager which would then launch a wayland session was a bit annoying though. Especially since X would often refuse to shut down gracefully alongside the rest of the system and slowed down any reboots by the 1m30s of systemd being patient before shooting it in the head.

It's the radicals and overall maniacs, the people convinced The Bads are out to get them and they need to vote for The Goods no matter what. The less someone is fanatic about a party the less motivation they have to vote. It's like a variant of Dunning-Kruger, except on country-wide scale.
We had this problem in Poland for the past two elections. A shitty populist, conservative catholic and nationalistic party was doing more damage to our country over the past 8 years than any other government before it since the fall of socialism combined. (Including their previous ruling period many years ago.) We're talking nearly Hungary level of taking over all branches of government and media and shitting all over the legal system and public institutions. Because the "normal" people stayed at homes while the fanatic and plain stupid who believed their fear mongering and were getting bribed with their own money voted. We just this weekend had (hopefully, right now we just have exit polls results) a revolutionary election where they finally don't have a majority. Because the voter turnout was much higher then previously, because the people who up until now didn't bother to vote finally got fed up and showed up in droves to vote for the opposition.
It's beautiful, but it's sad that they needed that bad of a situation to finally do it. If we had mandatory voting, that shitshow might've never taken place.

I’ve had my Steam Deck for about 2 months now and I must say it’s met my high expectations. After using it only as mobile console/laptop a week ago I finally bought a dock and the way it now acts as the living room couch console (with my entire Steam, GOG etc libraries) but also supports desktop applications, desktop mode, keyboard and mouse is sublime. Wanna stop playing and watch some videos? Sure, here’s your actual desktop browser with your extensions like adblock so that you can watch them in peace. Wanna use a search function? You can just type on a keyboard instead of clicking through a virtual one with arrows for an hour.
And of course it doesn’t try to force you to use a single vendor-controlled overpriced games store or buy some shitty, way overpriced controller that feels like a chinese knock-off of an actual controller (cough Switch cough), it’s the first console, I think ever, that’s actually yours, letting you freely choose the hardware and software you want to play with.
It’s a total game changer, a chemotherapy for the console market’s cancer. I love it.

Also All genders in english are it except for things that actually have gender, in which case its the gender…

@npub1kpw…xzz4 overcomplication often has some benefit or reason, it’s overcomplication when that benefit is overshadowed by downsides.
Gendered language helps in expressing one idea: gender. It has charm, especially with things like calling a ship or other vessel “she”, but with being a mandatory inherent part of the language it causes disproportionally more problems.

@npub1kpw…xzz4 sure, every overcomplication of a language has the ability to be more expressive, one of the reasons why adapting an artificial language as common isn't a well liked idea. This particular case causes more problems than it's worth though. It's kinda like with languages where every noun is gendered, for native speakers it's natural and positive due to more expression, for everyone else it's pointless and stupid even if it has some charm. And I say that as a native speaker of one of them.

It has a stop-the-world GC, except it’s per process and Erlang is optimised to handle things with a crapton of small processes with small heaps. So your program cleans up tiny patches of garbage all the time, each process fast enough to be imperceptible.
I always wanted to make something in Erlang but never had a good project idea that fits it. Elixir also sounds interesting but again, wtf do I use it for, I’m not about to start implementing an nth Pleroma.

There’s no reason to additionally turn it into a bloody tax to society for it to just exist, maintaining it is enough of a constant cost that generates tax revenue.
Also, forcing people to jump through hoops just to maintain their capital, not even increase it, is how you get increasingly worse attempts at working around the system or abandoning it altogether.

I’m very thankful for the Wine team and Valve for bringing Wine and Proton to the point of straight-up running most Windows software, which after all those years presents us with an opportunity to maybe break out of that cycle. @npub183n…tahh the short duration made it easier to convince others to join the protest, otherwise there would be a lot of subs not joining. It showed that the community can unite, to both Reddit and redditors, and set up a situation where the threat of a longer protest / permanent exodus is very real to everyone. Pretty good move imo.

@npub1cus…6789 cats can push through any opening wide enough to fit their head, neck is thinner. Collars generally need to be clamped on neck, not pulled onto head since that would mean they can also be taken off by pulling the other way.
