@npub1skv…aky3 @npub1u2v…4999 yes yes this exactly! I can understand, I suppose, the interest in describing a circuit/network at finer levels of resolution. But most "circuit neuroscience" papers read like "we found two brain areas we already know are involved in a very simple behavioral task in mice, and we put all the techniques we could get to work in a blender and produced three figures with 20 panels each"

@npub1u2v…4999 @npub1skv…aky3 I feel this deep in my soul. I think almost all of the "circuit" work that has been done using BRAIN initiative funded technology has just been an engine for producing Cell and Nature papers with tiny data figures and has generated virtually no new insight into how the brain works.

In the unusual position of having a group of biostatisticians chasing us to publish a letter where they've reanalyzed some of our published data to get "better" p-values, so it seems like not everyone has heard about p-hacking (I am very comfortable with the analytic strategy we used)

experiencing my annual astonishment that a large professional neuroscience organization (a society, if you will) can't afford a functional web system for sessioning abstracts ... although thankfully this is the last time I ever have to do this
