ui design isnt just “visual polish” right? Isnt the core difference between art and design that design needs to have a functional purpose with its form? And yes definitely agreed about the monetary part.

i mean that doesnt sound too different from how smaller groups of artists collaborate for things such as fanzine or self-published comics. But my own personal first impression with foss as an artist were only negative. Like if im met with snarky comments just because i cannot code and have some requests then of course im gonna be hesitant to interact with the foss crowd you know?

if you cannot pay a designer then you can offer other valuable things such as work experience, especially if the designer is a novice and self taught. As well as give them more time and less deadlines to the project; that way they can have other design jobs and work on a foss idea on their free time.

A foss can be as good as ever but if it has bad Ui and normies are met with arrogant dismissal whenever they have valid complaints is enough to make the masses stick to adobe products. Blender is super popular now partly due to the new ui (i still cant handle it but thats me)

Watched a youtube video about why foss programs arent as popular (regarding photoshop and video editing etc and man the comment section is full of fossbros going “skill issue normies should know what git is lol”. But the actual good comments where those pointing out the issue is lack of designers in the FOSS sphere. And now i wished i had the skills to do software design.
