🚨 PSA for anyone holding ecash from the WesternBTC mint mint.westernbtc.com) 🚨
I've been doing some long-overdue surgery on the mint today — consolidating old keysets down to one clean one ahead of a backend migration. The mint is up and working fine.
What this means for you:
✅ If your wallet works normally — you're done. Nothing to do. Your sats are fine.
🔄 If you haven't touched your balance in a while: open your wallet and send your full balance to yourself (send as ecash token → receive it back). That rolls your tokens onto the new keyset and you're future-proof.
⚠️ If you see "unknown keyset", a missing balance, or any weird error: your funds are NOT lost — the old keysets are still fully honored. DM me on nostr ([email protected]) with a screenshot of your wallet balance for this mint and I'll make you whole.
One note: this mint was small and I know exactly how much ecash was ever issued beyond my own. Claims are checked against the books.
And as the mint description has always said: only use amounts of bitcoin you would be okay losing. That advice did some real work today.

Right 100%. I haven’t written code in 6/7 (🤷‍♂️) months, why would I expect them to? That’s where I’m getting lost right now. What exactly do I teach them? Why do choose a sharded db in some instances? I need guidance right now about what’s actually important to teach these young guys in a field that’s changing *almost* faster than I can keep up.

I feel that. I tell them it’s mostly not about what they ship, but rather them struggling through and gaining an understanding of how all of this works. How they have to think. I’ve heard the JavaScript Mastery guy on YouTube put it well: software engineering is a mindset.

I think the problem with nostr is we don’t know what it is. Some people think that’s a good thing. I understand that sentiment. I wonder though if it makes more sense to nail down — more fundamentally — what the role of relays and clients are. It’s early and small enough to make these critical decisions.
