We're now in Innisfail and have put the carpet under the carwash pressure wash, done the guts again and finally she drinks no longer. Port Douglas: I simply don't get the attraction of a distant location with literally mile upon mile of (ugly) resorts and holiday accomm, but a beautiful long beach you can't swim at. Bridge over the Mission River in Weipa. Longest single lane bridge in Straya. Hard to believe the forced evacuation in 1963, to Bamaga (hundreds of miles away), but there's a thriving little alcohol free indigenous community here now. Cultural centre closed coz 'all the laydeez' with their art are in Cairns for the art festival. Spent some time at the Aboriginal Cultural Centre, found the shopping Centre (a small air conditioned complex which looks like an old warehouse from the outside!) and now we're off to Mapoon, an hour's drive north. We thought we had over 8 hours of driving to get there, so left before dawn... but we found a short cut!
