but what am getting is that cd in a function is for the process, not the user?

i have something like this for creating site folders in Backdrop & Drupal multisite installations.
the scripts DO create the folders and update & copy all the files that go into them; but it bothers me that the terminal prompt never switches me into the folder.
my expectation is that "cd" moves my prompt into the new folder, not the bash process.
so is that what's happening when in a function?

WELP, had to uninstall the official #Mastodon app for #Android because it stopped working.
can't remember when i upgraded to 2.5 but had no problems until yesterday.
openedd the app and it immediately crashed. the first time it said i needed to clear the cache. did and it still crashed.
another time it said the app had a bug and needed to be closed.
i then uninstalled, rebooted the phone & installed. still the same. tried going down to 2.4.1; nothing.

when teaching at Rutgers, was invited to participate in a study about bilinguism. they wanted to image brains to find an explanation for why some folks are fully bilingual and other aren't. images of my brain are somewhere in that campus.
a decade later, out of curiosity, searched if there was anything about that. welp, it seems they accidentally found out a good number of folks were dyslexic...
