I’m a podcast addict, although admittedly there aren’t many left that get my attention or appeal to me anymore. But some episodes, often from the past, man I don’t know exactly why, I re-listen to from time to time over and over again and they never lose their vibrancy. They seem to be timeless. I think it’s the relaxed energy, the authenticity and deep dives in a multitude of different things - often with a small portion of philosophy - what makes them so appealing to me. A few examples of those are @npub12qz…pdx8 ‘s talks with Joshua Scigala or @npub1qny…95gx ‘s talks with @npub1j8y…vrvg . But unfortunately the very most podcasts these days seem to have turned into sales-brochures, self-adulation and sycophancy. Whether the mainstreamification ruined it or I’m just getting old and being haunted by nostalgia (a feeling which I always hate-loved).

Breez is actually a good one. It’s one of the few self-custodial *and* privacy-preserving Lightning Wallets out there. The downside is probably the speed I’d say. It feels a bit “clunky” sometimes when Breez is finding a route and updating your backup after each payment. But by and large it’s a good wallet imo.

Maybe they could take the AltStore path but afaik it comes with certain limitations. You are only allowed to install X amount of apps and if I‘m not mistaken the apps „expire“ after seven days or so and you cannot use them anymore. You will have to go to your computer and refresh them manually. You could possibly setup a virtual private network or so but yes, by and large, it‘s a pain in the ass. The closed ecosystem with the centralized app store is a huge problem and one of the reasons why my everyday device is an Android. Being dependent on just one appstore sucks. Take Phoenix Wallet as a recent example. Android users couldn’t care less. Nothing changes for them.

Depends on. In most cases they won’t see the content of the messages but metadata like when and to whom (IP / Account). I have never registered my device with Google Play Services. Apps like Signal will detect this and will fall-back to their own alternative push notification service which will be established by a background service. Same for SimpleX.

How is Google supposed to know which apps I am running on my phone? I use my phone (CalyxOS) without a Google account and have never registered my device with Google. I download my apps from Aurora, F-Droid or just grab the apk-files directly from Github, verify and install and add them to Obtanium afterwards. No Google-ID, E-Mail-Address or anything else involved.

If you want to you use swap services be very cautious! Before using them make sure first that the swap service operates atomically. Yes. This is a term which primarily stems from the financialized world rather than from economics. Prices can be stable or not over a certain period of time depending on individual actions, wishes, needs, preferences, technological innovations / stagnations and other circumstances such as natural disasters. The price is what it is and it's important because the price itself is a means of communication and coordination. What they actually mean when they say "price stability" is money-printing, stealing and siphoning a large portion of people's productivity straight to the government in a more or less covered way. What is important though is the predictability of the money itself. Gold, besides its characteristics for why it was chosen as money almost all over the world, was very predictable if you ignore one or two events where some actors found huge gold occurrences which could cause unexpected price inflation. There have to be rules and in gold people rely on the universe that this rules cannot be changed so easily. In Bitcoin this debate can be indeed more complex but in the end it's predictability what matters in the first place. Btw, you can intuit it everytime when bitcoiners emphasize "21 million", "tik-tok-next-block every 10 minutes", "2,016 blocks", "210,000 blocks" "halving cycle every four years" and so on.

Dem Begriff der Geldwäsche wohnen Einnahmen aus kriminellen Machenschaften inne und das Einschleusen dieser in den regulierten Finanzkreislauf durch Verschleierung. Das ist wie zu sagen, dass Jalousien-, Skimasken- und Sonnenbrillenverkäufer "klassische Verbrecherdienstleister" sind. Ich weiß zu 100%, dass Ihr das nicht so meintet, aber es ist wichtig auf das Vokabular zu achten und sich nicht unbewusst an solchen linguistischen Attacken auf privacy tools zu beteiligen. Mixer waren früher (lange vor JM, Wasabi, Whirlpool) die einzige Möglichkeit auf einer transparenten BC Privatsphäre gewinnen zu können.
Dann noch eine Frage: es sollte doch mal implementiert werden den fidelity bond auch cold hinterlegen zu können. Ist das wirklich noch nicht implementiert worden und wenn nein, wieso nicht? (Ich finde diese Option selber nirgendwo).
Noch ein Paar Takes von mir: JAM ist zwar wirklich eine schöne GUI, aber mir missfällt, dass die Join-Market-spezifischen Begrifflichkeiten in JAM abweichen. Führte bei mir anfangs zu Unsicherheit. Zum Teil abstrahiert JAM mir auch manchmal ein wenig zu viel. Filigrane Abstimmungen kann man dort nicht vornehmen und diese haben nicht selten einen erheblichen Einfluss auf die fees, von denen man wirklich erschlagen werden kann wie in der Folge auch erwähnt wird. Ich scheine jedenfalls nicht der einzige zu sein, der über Joinmarket viel Lehrgeld bezahlt hat. Joininbox stellt möglicherweise mit der Terminal-GUI und den nötigen Feinabstimmungen einen recht guten Kompromiss zwischen der reinen Kommandozeile und JAM dar.

I do that very rarely. More often than not I postpone updating apps for several reasons but right at the moment I would like to revert to an older version of #signal on my iPhone (which I luckily don’t have to use that often) right now because for some mysterious reasons they disabled saving voice messages but of course Apple doesn’t allow you to do that.

Imo the problem with Telegram is that it looks like a messenger (it's actually named "Telegram Messenger") although it's not. Telegram is more like "social media" but disguises itself as a messenger. The users barely associate it with social media and falsely get a sense of privacy. If it would be seen and treated as what it is, many people would probably act very differently on Telegram. Maybe then they wouldn't post their node URIs in group chats or even worse expose their whole social graph and lightning nodes to bots, do p2p trades in groups with their regular accounts and real phone numbers etc. And of course almost no body uses the e2ee chat because it's not the default and not usable on Telegram web / Telegram desktop.

I'm not sure why this happens at all but if for whatever reason you as a maker should disappear from the #joinmarket orderbooks or reappear but without having your fidelity bond announced you can try to fix it by clicking on the "timed-out counterparties" button within your own local orderbook and maybe on other instances as the one on nixbitcoin.org. Give it a little bit of time and everything should be okay again. If this doesn't help you can try to stop the yield generator and restart it again (you will see in the logs that your fidelity bond will get re-announced).

Tribalism and ideology don't help here. I'm neither a big nor a small blocker and I don't see how these labels can be meaning- or helpful. Am I a big blocker for running a segwit node? At least it''s an increase of blockspace up to 4x, right? Are you a true small blocker? Do you advocate for 100kb blocks then? Nah it's not as fractionable as gold. It's very different. The smallest usable fraction of a bitcoin varies and has to get bigger and bigger over time (increasing dust limit) since block space is limited and fees will have to rise if you don't want Bitcoin to be dead at some point. In contrast the transaction cost of a gold coin doesn't rise with increasing usage. It doesn't matter that the smallest fraction is 1 sat. You can't move 1 sat economically on the base-layer. I was very clear about what I critized. The bad thing isn't fractional reserve banking or paper bitcoin per se (they will or will not emerge on a free market whether you like it or not). Things just get unacceptable to me if one isn't able to redeem the actual basemoney anymore unless he / she is a big bag holder. The cost should be at a reasonable level. What is reasonable and what not has to be evaluated by the free market. This is not up to me. Maybe people will be fine with building the same shitty custodial IOU system again where only the plutocrats will run bitcoin nodes and make the decisions because average Joe doesn't interact with the baselayer anyway so why should he care to run a node? At least I won't stick to Bitcoin (only) if the redeemability will be merely dependent on trust into custodians. I've really no interest in that.

my main issue with ecash isn't how it can be a useful tool but rather how it was marketed by some famous people in the space. it's totally fine if you know the trade-offs and use it for zapping / tipping or other small amount related things, and that's where it stops. i just don't like to see people who gaslight others with statements like "it's a bearer instrument" and therefore it's non-custodial. this is disingenuous.

If you should ever run into the same issue, increase your recovery indexes, restart the application and then press on the "RETRY TO COMPLETE" button which is located next to the lightning invoice in your tx history you wanted to receive initially. lost another 50,000 sats of ecash token. the first time when it happened i hadn't addressed it in the public and kept it to myself because, yeah, i didn't know that recovering ecash token in @npub1dx5…88sj *before* the creation of the seedphrase aren't recoverable at all. so i guess it was my fault and i considered it as a donation.
now to the second one: for whatever reason @npub1kva…tkzv prompted me non-stop to update to the new version although i already was on the newest version (and it still does after the update). because i didn't want to put my funds at risk i transfered the token to eNuts, "updated" Minibits and then tried to send them back from eNuts to Minibits. btw both wallets were configured with the same cashu server (Minibits). the transfer wasn't possible. i ran into some errors which i unfortunately didn't save so i cannot name or cite them at this point. so i decided to transfer the token via a lightning invoice (top-up option in Minibits wallet) and pay the invoice within eNuts. Long story short: the amount was subtracted from my eNuts wallet and never arrived its destination (Minibits wallet). eNuts says the invoice has "SETTLED" whereas Minibits states the invoice has "EXPIRED".

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I understand your concerns. What I'm generally interested in is why is everyone in the Bitcoin space so focused on GrapheneOS nowadays? Is it because CalyxOS and the other guys became so quite or did Graphene indeed become superior at some point? At least I remember a time when there was a little bit more nuance in the space regarding custom ROMs AND phones. And do you know why CalyxOS stopped supporting Xiaomi devices? Maybe the bootloader on newer phone models aren't unlockable / relockable anymore? And I don't want to engage in os mudslingings here (Linux-Distro A vs Linux-Distro B, Linux vs BSD, then OpenBSD vs FreeBSD vs NetBSD blabla... so tiresome and sometimes very nasty. Everyone should use what suits them best). I just don't like it if things become centralized and depend on that centralized thing (here Graphene + Google Pixel), like it was with Whirlpool although I must admit that it was indeed a very good cj implementation. Intuitively this just doesn't feel good to me. Especially when you aren't allowed to talk about it anymore in some circles.

joinmarket seems to ignore my fee settings. as a taker i ended up several times in paying more than twice, sometimes almost three times the amount i set. both the absolute and the relative fee-confs were very clearly exceeded by the actual cost i paid. so as i understand it the offers should not have been taken.
yes, i know that my fee settings apply to each collaborator and the mining fees were really negligible at the times.
i feel uncomfortable at this point and will stop using joinmarket for now until i figured out what's going on :(

yea i can absolutely understand that. but in general most of the shit should be blocked by the vpn anyway if the dns blocklist is enabled. last year i watched the network traffic while using the @npub1sqz…vk7v app for testing purposes (which contained even more trackers than this app, which is a shame for a bitcoin company btw) and everything was blocked by the vpn.
