agreed, is this related to the article I saw saying Anglian Water wants to open two new reservoirs by 2030. I’ve not seen a proposed location but I’d be excited to visit for the reasons you mentioned.
It’ll be a bit barren to start with but the biodiversity will develop, I’d expect a lot of migrating geese etc. would be pretty happy it existed.

Today we visited Dunwich Heath, we hadn’t visited much before so we went back for another look around.
We’d also seen Dartford Warblers had been sighted at the Heath but we thought there’s no chance we would find them.
About 40 meters down the path we chose, our first bird of the walk flew across right in front of us…it was a Dartford Warbler!

A couple of weeks ago we headed up to Sheringham on the North Norfolk coast. It was very cold but local birders were reporting a rare visitor.
The Eastern Black Redstart. When we saw it the Redstart was favouring the windowsills of a block of flats and a small neighbouring building site, not the best background but some clear views.
While we were waiting and searching with the other birders, a large black SUV pulled up and three fellas hopped out who had just arrived from northern Wales!
eBird users are still tagging it there even today if you want to find it.

From where we started we could see a pair of juvenile Yellow Wagtail exploring up on the main hide roof.

Zack becoming the new leader has caught my attention and is saying some good things. I have been feeling politically homeless, I voted labour tactically to unseat the useless Tory squatting in our seat, not much good it’s done though.
I hope to see at least some of Zacks announcements come true, I think the party is going to grow a lot given the political landscape they have to work in at the moment. I’m certainly watching the greens closely now to see what happens.

A Reed Warbler at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen, we were walking along the river path and heard some chicks in a nest intermittently. The parents were in and out of the tree with plenty of insects.

The juvenile Spoonbill did eventually get fed after some resistance from the parent, I didn’t expect the juvenile having to grab the adult like that!

glad you’re seeing them. All the small birds have vanished from my garden about a week ago.
Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Starlings, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Robins, Blackbirds, Sparrows and Dunnocks all gone and we’re a bit confused.

This one is coloured slightly differently, but proceeds to perch in the same spot for maybe 30 minutes preening and stretching its neck out.
It was amazing to see these Bittern for over an hour before they quietly sunk back into the reeds.

Eventually it left its spot and flew about 50 meters left of where it was originally.
This time it got its feet wet and stood at the bottom of the reeds but it still didn’t move far.

That brown blob then sprouted a head!
As I suspected, it was a #Bittern holding onto bunches of reeds up above the water line.
I put my head back into reception and told them, all sorts of action broke out. There were people rushing to get telescopes and cameras!
It stayed there perched in the reeds and swaying in the wind for a while. 20 minutes maybe longer.
There’s a crowd gathered now (about 10 including me and Bee)

It slowly made its way into the reeds disappearing out of view, we all thought this was the end of the encounter.
One of the group looks back to the original spot and announces excitedly there’s only a second Bittern emerging!

A few weeks ago we were at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen. It was a later start for us, we got to the reception hide just before 10am.
Coming out of the door I chose to take a quick look across the water and I’m so glad I did.
I saw this brown blob half way up the reeds.

I think this is a Norfolk Hawker dragonfly. It was doing a few laps around the reeds and into a little clearing out the window of the Island Mere hide at Minsmere.

thanks Jim, we are seeing quite a lot of them lately and that’s no bad thing!
There was another right over my head but I messed up the exposure so the bird was way too dark, this was the best I could rescue it.
