Last Notes #31 days Monday and Tuesday - lots of work on the homestead, then my (new) usual - thanks to @npub17nv…4u85 - of 20 minutes of kettlebell and bodyweight exercises. And 100 kettlebell swings thanks to @npub1q6y…t3sh I often have elaborate exercise plans that I don't follow through on, so for this month's challenge it's just been alternating upper and lower body each day. I'm getting noticeably better at single-leg deadlifts. The balance used to be tough but now I can keep them pretty smooth. 35lb bell, as slowly as I can. ooh! I didn't know you were on Nostr! So cool!!!!! I just recommended you to someone this morning. Super fit guy who's struggling with constant back pain. Doctors have told him it's genetic. To answer your question: I'm not sure we know. But it's great group of folks 💜 oh, no! I'll do peer encouragement but don't want it to be peer pressure! I'll leave you alone 💜 oh no! as in normal getting-back-in-the-saddle kind of awful? or somehow swings are just not your thing? Yay! 🏋️ (not a swing or a kb, but just to get you in the mood...) 26! actually 27 because yesterday you did all that walking plus the 100 swings (BTW I've heard that zero-carb = no soreness, which is interesting.) I haven't posted much this summer! Billy's amazing. It was great to get some in-person time with him. Join the Sept challenge that @npub17nv…4u85 started! #31days Walking counts, and you can throw in some swings. Plus, we can pester you 😈 I love sharing! I just don't like being forced to do it in accordance with the choices of a few well-armed people. One of the things that we tend to miss in these conversations is scale: in a tribe of people, you have enough close relationships - and enough accountability of the leaders - that taxation as sharing for the public good makes a lot of sense. In a system with millions of people and no accountability for those forcing the "sharing," it's theft. To make it worse, those same thieves can also print the money that you're forced (again, under threat of violence) to use, and your assets go up in price because they're debasing the money. We can discuss all those things you mentioned, and do that within a small enough community that we actually have a say in how the money is being spent and what taxation should look like. whoa! good for you! I'm just about to do my workout and I might tweak it to keep you (belated) company on the swings. With my 35lb bell will report back in a bit Ha! I think I just zapped you twice instead of posting this note. He looks so ready for something (and those little feet!!! 🥰) suitcase deadlifts, single leg deadlifts, sumo squats, Cassock lunges, regular lunges (stepping back), hip thrusts I have 10,15, 20 and 35 lb bells and a belt that makes it easy to do hip thrusts with them. I need to get a 50lb - hopefully soon. #31days So glad to have this workout challenge! It's a busy time, and I'd definitely be skipping workouts otherwise. 1 hour-ish outside work, 20 minutes of lower body kettlebell moves. Compost project! My husband and I took a class on it this week (Billy Bond 🤩) and put together a 30-bucket pile in a wire ring yesterday afternoon and the center is already at 138 degrees. Our soil ("soil" might not be the right word) needs lots of work, and we're planning to make extract and spray it everywhere that we can. #askNostr Hi Friends! What's a decent inflation index for normies? A good friend is getting hammered in his business by not building in inflation for ongoing service costs, but he'll have to justify using something other than CPI. I'm rooting mulberry as well but am crossing my fingers that misting once/day will do the trick. We're mostly offgrid and I don't know how I'd set up a misting system (I'm sure it's doable!). What's the difference between a potato and a candy bar? About 10 minutes. (This is obviously an oversimplification. I think there are probably lots of folks who can handle the carbs and oxylates in potatoes just fine, and heaven knows we would be in a dramatically different situation in the US if every candy bar were replaced with a potato. But for people who are insulin resistant, it's a useful joke!] Whoa! really?! I'm surprised but that's very cool. Next step: X million Americans chicken owners are weaning themselves from store-bought chicken feed. Don't be ridiculous. The TV says that there's a good team and a bad team. If you're not on one, you're obviously on the other. Duh. Motherhood is amazing, but it's also challenging in all sorts of ways that we wouldn't expect. 🫂 Based on his other content, and the way he slipped "lobbyists" in there, I assume it's satire. Depressing that we can't tell :( Ha! the problem is that most folks who believe the lobbyist-funded papers would think this is all totally reasonable. What's that phrase for when reality is so absurd that you can't actually tell if something's a parody? We may well look back and realize that @npub1qny…95gx's annoying insistence turned out to be one of the most powerful forces of this era. Welcome to Nostr! *Paleomedicina https://www.paleomedicina.com/en/ Yeah, but those convos don't always go very well (ask me how I know...). Also I think that's almost always true - certainly for the kinds of cancers that would show up on a PET scan - but that some cancers apparently use diff substrates for growth. (? I went deep into this ages ago, and don't remember the details so I could be/would love to be wrong about that.) In any case everything improves when you improve your metabolic health! One easy way into the conversation if the family member is more conventional: being in ketosis usually improves the efficacy of standard treatments. For someone who is willing to go down a rabbit hole, I've seen lots of positive references to Paleomedina. I don't think they list cancer on their website but I've heard several folks mention that the main dr in that practice has had success with remission for patients who are willing to go all-in with her dietary suggestions. In any case, I'm sorry, Holdonaut! Best wishes to you and your family. Unless you're trying be a central planner, you don't really need a consensus. You just need an agreement with (say) farmer Jones for how much you're willing to pay for her eggs, and an agreement with one of your customers about how much you want for your labor. The market takes care of the rest. Dairy products seem to interfere with fat loss for most folks. They are sometimes recommended when someone wants to do carnivore but wants to gain weight. However, Ken Berry has some pretty harsh things to say about the inflammatory effects of dairy. Personally I do well with kefir (that we make with raw local milk) and some cheese on my burgers, but I haven't tried just ruminant meat and salt. It's possible that I would feel even better without dairy. this is actually somewhat reassuring, but isn't CBDC use totally transparent to those controlling it? This is not what I'm seeing, actually. Very occasionally I block someone in the comments - nastiness or just trollish bs - because there's some stuff I don't need to see, but mostly I love my feed. Find it informative and thought-provoking. Can you (or someone) clarify: on Nostr, how would we see content from folks that we don't follow other than via reposts? I've never seen a post from someone that I don't follow. (Not the main point of your post, but the idea that as an amab queer you're just not supposed to post your personal experience in particular threads ... idk, that seems bizarre to me.) This is why CBDC and UBI are such a perfect fit. UBI is the carrot for CBDC, and CBDC is the control on how UBI is used. Thank you for such a thoughtful response! I found the covid handling so appalling that I left a good life to start from scratch on raw land. Much of what my husband I do here - permaculture, community, work choices - is geared toward making this world, or at least our corner of the world, better for future generations. So I'm with you fully on that. I've also come to believe that there are areas in which we do have power to reverse the current extreme governmental overreach: in the communities we build, the systems we support, the money we use. What I'm not sure of is whether voting is one of those. If I had to choose it would be RFK, probably mostly because of his intelligence and personal integrity. This is how I see it: DNC choice will happily sell us out to the highest bidder, Trump can be manipulated into doing so, and RFK might actually put up a fight before conceding. I do wonder if his stance on Israel is an example of him conceding. In 2020 I held my nose and voted for Biden, thinking him the lesser of two evils (ha!) and also betting that once Dems were in charge maybe they would calm down about covid (haha!!!). I was so wrong, and I regret my vote. I don't think it would have been much better to vote for Trump, so I am inclined to think that it would have been better to just not participate. In any case, I appreciate your note and may re-read it before November. Good for you for refusing the jab even at the expense of your job 🤩. I hope that a new set of options has opened for you. Take care- Yes, exactly. Blind spots and a susceptibility to flattery and recognition. Who knows what actually happened, but I can totally imagine Jamie Dimon saying something positive about Trump and that being enough. "He's a good guy, one of the best. So smart, so smart." And just like that, one of the worst of the establishment becomes Secty of the Treasury. Yes, fair enough! I think in the end it's better to know and then act accordingly. I think that TN actually banned something recently (contrails? some kind of spraying?) and the mainstream articles about that were hilarious. It's encouraging that some things can actually change at the state level. Wow! this is amazing. Congrats!! Hello, Nostr friends! We just put down a deposit on a half cow with a local, family-owned regenerative farm. I think they're still at the early stages of some good stuff that we're learning about here on the homestead (silvopasture, tree hay, soil biology, etc), but they're on the right track and it feels great to support them. Between their beef (this is our second order), pork from a friend's farm, raw milk from a local dairy, and our own eggs, ducks and rabbits, we probably get at least 80% of our calories from within a very small radius and from folks who are literally regenerating the land in the way that they raise their livestock. So far only the pork is paid for with bitcoin, but we'll work on that! @npub12pl…42wq #regenerativefarming #permaculture#foodstr #homesteading This could also be hash tagged #climate, #carbonfootprint: regenerative ag means carbon sequestration, improved soil, better water retention #eco : there's much more wildlife when food is raised this way and even #animalwelfare: eating this way means that far fewer animals are killed than in - say - growing grains and legumes Thanks, Erin. I really appreciate this. There's been a tendency to expand "intersex," until the term becomes almost useless. Which is a pity, because in a case like this it's important information and makes for a different discussion. Someone on the Tom Woods podcast recently outlined how this might be possible. He gave it a pretty low chance but talked through the steps. Kind of interesting. But given the DNC's willingness to bend/break pretty much every rule - idk. If the election had to be decided by the House, I think the party would find a way to thwart that and would effectively sell their moves (no matter how immoral or unconstitutional) via the media. I used to be fully infected with TDS. Once I recovered, the attacks from the media started looking crazy and then really dangerous. At this point the fact that the establishment hates Trump is pretty much the best thing he has going for him IMHO. But... he's strongly linked to Thiel (even before choosing Vance, and especially now) and has some pretty disturbing takes on things like police immunity. And he loves spending! I may sit out this national election (for the first time in my life). The whole thing feels so broken that I just don't want to add my energy to it. I have tremendous respect for RFK and have loved his courage in CHD for a long while. But somehow he's not making the connection between the money printer and the size of govt. I'm not quite sure why, but he seems to think that we just need more govt to clean up the mess that govt has largely created. And his stance on Israel is disheartening. I'm open to being convinced otherwise, so have at it if you are so inclined. I genuinely like the guy, which is more than I can say for just about everyone for whom I have actually pulled the lever. 9 months!!! Sophia's my main measure of how long I've been on Nostr. I think you were close to giving birth when I first joined 🙂 She's beautiful. Congratulations. 🥰 omg. I made it 30 seconds in and am already depressed. Sometimes it's hard to balance - needing to know stuff becuase it informs our decisions vs not following the alarming things that I have no control over oh, so as a colony? (Have you been listening to TSP 😂) I really wanted to do colony raising but decided against it for a few reasons. Here's what we have working nicely right now: cages hang in the chicken run inside the overhang of the coop (so they're all in shade). The droppings fall to the ground and I add wood shavings regularly (plan to replace that with charcoal soon). The chickens dig around in it and every week or so I half-fill a five gallon bucket of the mix to put around a tree or in a new planting. We have two large containers of duckweed - for the chickens and for the BSF - that we've placed so they get just a bit of the manure for fertility. Also we sometimes add some of the rabbit droppings to the BSF bin and to our red wiggler bin (both also under the overhang of the chicken coop). I'm planting a ton of rabbit fodder and chicken food inside the run so that we can feed them as much as possible from the immediate area. May also add fish soon, though I'm not yet sure how. If you're planning on a colony set up I don't know if any of that is of interest! You're probably well aware but you'll have to protect fodder trees from free-ranging rabbits. One of our tractor rabbits escaped and neatly de-barked one of our new fodder willows. ooh. That sounds terrifying. I had some thoughts about rabbits in the chicken run when I read the first part of your note, but maybe this isn't the time! Sending a hug 🫂 "preventative action" In other words, we'll be able to catch you before you even manage commit a crime That's what we're doing on here! I think it's pretty much all we can do - keep building what we want to see. Can't wait to listen to this! We're gradually building systems around our rabbits and it's always cool to hear new ideas. Also @npub1f5p…wt3z + @npub1587…kv0n 🤩 Unfortunately wherever it leads, we're well on our way because we/them is used by pretty much everybody 😔 we the moral vs them the nazis we the righteous vs them the satanists we the enlightened vs them the fascists ha! as long as TDS folks have to register as well MAGA and TDS have no idea how much they have in common Peter and @npub16le…ffxj thank you so much for so many great interviews and episodes! (weird - I just zapped you and it's not showing up, though it's gone from my wallet. Hope you get it!) ☹️ It's always incredible how a government that can't afford much of anything has no trouble coming up with funding to attack citizens. I used to be political, no longer. I'm trying NOT to follow it at all but when I do, it's with a combination of alarm and amusement. A lot of the alarm is coming from watching the media narrative. Holy shit. Absurdly manipulative, turning on a dime - even when it means 180 from a few days before - and pretty much in unison. It's insane. If I'm understanding you - and maybe I'm not - I don't think positivity will necessarily prevail overall in Nostr, but I think anyone who wants it to prevail in their feed can do that. I need to find an appropriate reaction to posts like this. Non-techy people probably know exactly what I mean. Something that combines omg!! so exciting! 🤩 + I don't really know what this means but I have a vague sense that it could be huge and important + thank heavens I can at least zap the note + go devs!! 🙏😍 #note12u0…5l7l Yes, it will have such behavior, but it won't *incentivize* such behavior - which I hope will make a huge difference! Personally I don't just zap posts that make me smile; I also zap the ones that make me think and ones that deepen/broaden my understanding of something. Blue messages and plans aren't great either ☹️ awful, but inevitable assuming the network grows, the tent will expand and lots of grifters will be drawn to it of the three, he's the only one who has truly grappled with regulatory capture and its implications, and by extension the importance of freedom of speech and transaction. I wish he weren't proposing more government to fix it ☹️ haha! it's all theater, but sometimes it's pretty entertaining theater ugh. I'm sorry to hear this! Though it may be because those who would be cheering most loudly for freeing Ross are not drawn to large conventions. In any case, I think it's inevitable that if Bitcoin does what we all hope it will do, it will begin to attract more and more folks who are outside of the ethos that brought many of us to it in the first place. Thank you so much! I will take a look. Can you explain a bit more? Dom, check this out as well: https://primal.net/e/note1lv77g2ttesatgd4vz0gx3xr8hvjz3l48gmmx4pz0k49hdpmxrvpsveq5kl yeah Partisanship in general is quite the drug, but TDS takes it all to a new level. I'm not sure! But if you do a search for both on here, you might find a good range of opinions that can give you more information. It sounds like @npub1qny…95gx was involved in some way in helping them build it, so you can also look for his post on that. The comments might have some good questions/suggestions. Hi, Dom! I don't know much about their new wallet, but generally speaking - if you're not particularly worried about privacy, a wallet like Proton is probably an ok place to keep some sats. If you're building your savings in bitcoin (and you should build some savings in bitcoin as soon as you're able!), it's best to take the time to do research on wallets. A hardware wallet is a device that you use to access your bitcoin, and a "cold" wallet is one that doesn't touch the internet, so your private keys are not in danger of being compromised online. If you haven't seen them yet, I would take a look at @npub1rxy…hnp8 YT videos. He has really great tutorials on many wallets. I don't think anyone questions that fascism is different from socialism. It seems to me that we need a new name for the what's happening now, whereby the power of the state is used to support but is also subsumed into (global) corporate interests. I think Mussolini's idea was govt taking control of communications, industry, etc and there's certainly been plenty of that (Biden admin actions on social media companies as just one example) but the incredible lobbying power of private interests so that corporations essentially take over the govt - that's, what, corporatism? And Trump - rhetoric notwithstanding -seems as willing to go in that direction as Biden has been. Love your random mid-length stories, Lyn 😁 I really enjoy the vibe here, and I don't feel like I'm being manipulated by a corporate algorithm. But the main thing is that I want to be contributing to a system that I believe in. Decentralized networking FTW 💜 It's definitely weird to realize that the sitting president just dropped out of the upcoming election in a way that precludes verification. I have a feeling that his connections to Thiel will in fact lead to an alarming strengthening of corporate/State collusion. But I'm not clear on why Trump gets the F word and Dem politicians don't 🤷♀️ I know that there are serious questions about childhood vaccines, but my guess is that we're not looking at one specific cause. It's likely a dramatic drop in overall health (fiat food, poor sleep, less community, lack of natural light and activity) AND far more challenges (medications, toxins in our environment, etc). You might have an easier time in some US states than in many other countries @npub1rxy…hnp8 you're on one of my favorite permaculture podcasts! So cool to hear two of my favorite folks having a great conversation. For #permie and #homestead folks who don't know him: Takota Coen is an excellent resource. He's got some beautiful systems going on his farm in Canada (like growing duckweed on his pond, which he soaks in milk/whey from his cow along with grains that he grows, all of which he feeds to his pigs before he sends them out to forage cattails in the wetlands that he's rehabilitating. It's quite something. That particular YT video linked below, and he's got plenty more). And his latest podcast is interviewing Ben Perrin 🤩 I'm partway through, and Ben is doing a great job of introducing bitcoin to Takota's audience (mostly not bitcoiners, would be my guess, and it's a group that will probably be pretty receptive). I listen on Fountain but could only get an apple podcast link: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/20-circular-economy-and-freedom-money/id1536521443?i=1000662548688 YT video on how Coen feeds his pigs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CloGPgGE9WQ). short note to test. I've been trying with another note for 10 minutes 😣 I find this a huge challenge. Spend enough time outside the overton window and it can be hard to know how to navigate a conversation reasonably. The overlap in values is still probably strong, though. If I'm talking with a normie about socio-political stuff, we generally share the same ideas regarding - say - humanitarian goals, so I try to start there. Also I try really hard not to use the words "federal reserve" "cantillion effect," or "money printing" within the first few minutes. Nice! maybe it will lure you out of the city 🙂 You get to see this every day plus grow lots of those amazing foods that you love. (signed - former die-hard urbanite now living in the boondocks) Welcome! Here you go - https://primal.net/p/npub15879mltlln6k8jy32k6xvagmtqx3zhsndchcey8gjyectwldk88sq5kv0n congratulations! babies are the best 🥰 At least on Primal - if you don't follow yourself, you don't see your own posts in your feed. so lovely! I can't believe she's already 8 months old😮
