Last Notes npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness I would like to leave this party early, please. Where is the door? npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness https://media.infosec.exchange/infosec.exchange/media_attachments/files/116/579/784/262/920/513/original/f1c0b6c256064cf7.mp4 npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness If you haven't checked it out yet, be sure to check out @npub1qm4…h363. Growing community of interesting people coming together to share infosec news and threat intel. npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness I'll never understand this logic. "How do you know the morally bankrupt cybercriminals actually got rid of your data?" "They gave us a receipt." Yeah...sure... npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness Over the holidays we went to visit family and I watched one of them open a recipe website on their iPad to start cooking and the amount of junk and ads almost completely blocked out the view of the recipe. I pointed their iPad at NextDNS and refreshed the page. They actually gasped when all the ads went away and they could read the recipe. npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness So much this. A decade in, and I still struggle with conversations that feels like the Patrick Starr "is this your wallet" meme. npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness Maybe it's finally an excuse to try Incus like I pitched to you at Texas Linux Fest 2 years ago. :awesome: npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness Big thanks to @npub1q0t…n0hx and the whole @npub1hpa…7hzy team for making it all happen yet again. I had a fun weekend, met some great people and learned a lot. npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness This is still my favorite movie. Glad to see it being fondly remembered npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness But what if they're 70% of the way through the firewall? No reason! Asking for a friend. Wait, 75%...80%...reply quick kthxbye npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness I switched fully to Linux 5 years ago now, and tried to just wipe my laptop and install Linux. Very suddenly realized things were not going to work the way I thought. Wound up putting Windows back on and installed Linux in virtual machine. I challenged myself to do everything in the VM and if I hit some blocker that I didn't have to time to figure out or learn, then I'd do it in Windows. Did this for about 6 months and then went back to bare metal. Essentially, my plan was to give myself permission to take it slow and ignore anyone who said "it just works". I've since become a diehard Linux user, but if someone asks for help learning Linux I advise taking it slow like I did just to try and be the opposite of the common internet experience around learning Linux. npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness Having worked in IT for two different school districts, this is incredibly frustrating. Often understaffed and underfunded, districts rely on services like these to help manage the load. Yet these services are run by the "why would a thief lie" crowd. npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness After he Googled the wrong "Four Seasons" location, he lost a lot of his Infosec cred on LinkedIn, probably. npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness @npub1q0t…n0hx Hey there. Any news on Texas Linux Fest for 2025? npub1kmvchmkhlh80wncqh37478krrkuylhc8hz8yml0q6d42rcx2rvhqfxvwzr RossMadness How can you say that when the Internet Explorer magical girl exists.
