Social media is a reflection, a mirror for all the garbage and beauty within human consciousness.
If you try to suppress the garbage, you deny reality. And if you deny reality, you can't work with it, you can't heal it, you can't move on towards brightness.
If you do the same in your personal life and only project the 'good' side of you in opposition to your 'darkness' that needs to be eradicated, you will be stuck in conflict, a loop of pain, disease and suffering. That's where we are at as humanity right now.
That's why the individual inner healing work, the spirituality is so important. Because once a person has explored and made peace with the darkness inside, sees reality as it is and not as it's wished to be, then he/she won't radiate conflict out into human consciousness any longer.
Fear of hate speech or disease won't be predominant anymore. Fear mongerers and control freaks won't stand a chance and will need to go home to do their meditation.
I prefer garbage in social media any day over censoring freedom of speech. Hate is a reality within our collective consciousness. We need to embrace it, heal it, individually and collectively. If we surpress it through censorship it will stay with us, grow stronger, end in disaster, before everybody temporarily wakes up and can't fathom what happened. Sounds familiar? We had that a thousand times over.

Import fees for what the EU considers 'high-emission' cars into other EU countries like Greece are such that it's effecticely an import ban. And producing new cars is of course much more environmentally friendly than driving your old car for 20+ years in the countryside. I'm orignally an environmental lawyer by trade myself, but am repelled by seeing such nonsense unfolding. Understanding Bitcoin vs. fiat makes you realize.

True. Easier said than done though.
When it happens, the feeling of hurt and reaction to an abuse for example happens subconsciously. So, deconditioning, awareness of the subconscious reaction patterns is necessary to go to the depth of it and solve it thoroughly ... beyond thought.
From my own experience I can say that Vipassana meditation and to a good extent the Wim Hot method help with that ✌️

Picked up (n)ice cold water from the mountain spring. Pumped it into our travel bath tub. Added ice from the store (our freezer is too small). A couple of deep breaths, mind focused ... aand enjoyed the sunset.
Gradually increased cold exposure is a stressor that raises your adrenalin levels ... short-term, the way nature prepared your body to handle it. It makes you overall more resilient to environmental conditions, and increases cell energy levels, especially in the heart, brain and muscles.

Thanks. There's no confusion.
If the sole purpose of a bank was to keep money safe in a vault ... then yes, Bitcoin is your own bank. A big achievement, indeed, and I do hope self-custodial non-KYC wallets won't be criminalized.
But if a bank is also enabling financial services (payments, lending, borrowing, using BTC as collateral etc.) ... then in the current state of affairs, you cannot use Bitcoin mainstream without a bank (centralized service).
There are projects out there that want to enable Bitcoin to be used bankless (L2s). But those are too easily brushed off by such platitudes.

... the way it is set up to become [BTC ETFs, CEXes, KYCed wallets (looking at you Relai 😉)] people will need 'banks' or central financial services in order to use Bitcoin. And that is supported by many well-known Bitcoiners.
On the other hand L2s on Bitcoin supported by technologies that many Bitcoiners would call 'crypto', those are the ones indeed able to build a future where the use of Bitcoin does not require banks or centralized services (DEXs).

After years we are still doing some basic landscaping of the property - time preference in nature is much lower 🌱 So every winter-spring season, there are lots of bush and tree cuttings to handle. And the common easiest way is to burn them in open fires. Turning the branches into woodchips for paths and protecting young plantings is another good idea, but the suitable machines are pricy and heavy. We like to keep the work simple and manual as much as our time and energy allows ... and I really love these powerful fires! The setting is magic!

Polishing the app experience is one element for sure. The bar raised by the central social medias with their hundreds of employees building over years is high, their apps work flawlessly and look pretty. I'm personally impressed how well many Nostr apps look and work already 🙏🏻 Yet it's obviously still a good way off. Also, the relay management needs to be clearer and easier in my opinion.
The other super important element is having diverse content on Nostr. And that's up to us. Going 100% Nostr is great! But why to annoyingly sell it as the morally superior choice? One gentle way to expand the user and content base that I see, is to publish in parallel on established platforms AND on Nostr. Then make content available earlier or in other ways more attractive on Nostr while explaining Nostr's advantages. I've seen this approach here already and think it can be very effective. So, that's what I'd recommend Scott to do if he sees the value of Nostr.

Some people say we live in the middle of nowhere. But we know that we live right at the heart of where life is happening.
There's a certain level of ease, a depth of relaxation and clarity when living long term in pure nature, that's hard to comprehend when you haven't experienced it. I certainly didn't get it before I made that step to live here. It took me months, well years, to really feel and understand it. And only then I connected the dots and realized that this was how I also felt, when I spent playful, carefree, happy time in nature as a child.
I still fall back when I go to the city or suburbs for a while. I can get used to that latent stress-level again, I have to, it becomes normal, 'no problem, what stress? I'm fine'. But then I move back to pure nature and my system calms down, level after level, levels I didn't even know existed. When in the midst of urban life, I had no clue how tense my muscles still were, despite all the spiritual practice, how my thoughts were still in the foreground comparing and conceptualizing. Nothing against cities really, it's just that the current mindset and energies there, aren't conducive to rekindling your inner power. There may be a time, when urban life is also in tune with the laws of nature (again).
Until then it's only here among the olives, where I feel free coupled with lots of grounded energy ... and I'm just grateful 🙏🏻

The 2001 documentary series "Magical Egypt" by John Anthony West is highly fascinating. It's not only a phenomenally different and more compelling view on the history of Ancient Egypt. But most of all it's an awe-inspiring introduction to timeless spiritual wisdom of our ancient forefathers which our current civilization is only slowly unveiling.
Human development is not linear. Nothing else in nature is.

Think I'm living something very similar here, feeling blessed with an abundant life myself, not as much in a monetary sense, but in important aspects of life and in connection with nature. I came to where I'm now from the sphere of international environment protection, saw that in the current economic and political setting this can't go anywhere, then focused on the inner journey (Vipassana, J. Krishnamurti, practicing Wim Hof) and discovered the beauty of Bitcoin.

Hej, yeah, lots in there, love the optimism obviously ... and it helps musing about it in the spirit of Atlantis, hehe.
A protocol is a set of rules, for sure, and actually we are already living in societies based on protocols. Nation states' constitutions, the UN mechanism etc. are all protocols. But they are enforced by institutions run by humans. And without getting too much into details here, the vast majority of humanity is currently not (yet) in a state to enforce protocols in a way that doesn't corrupt the protocol framework eventually. One might say that the global hegemonial societies are currently going through a period of overreaching corruption that is bound to bring about fundamental change. An interesting question is how much of that corruption is intentional and how much is done unconsciously.
In any case, I think with the example of money, we are witnessing that a protocol so far enforced by humans working in institutions (fiat monetary system), has the potential to be run more efficiently by a digital protocol, Bitcoin. It works in a decentralized and trustless way, something non-digital protocols weren't able to achieve. The separation of powers in a nation state, checks and balances, is aiming at decentralization, but obviously can't come close. That's why I was asking if you mean digital protocols, because that seems to be the only way to enforce a protocol in a decentralized way.
In a way, and that's been my argument for a while now, we humans are weaseling ourselves out of our responsibility to fix our psychological problem of corruptedness, by transferring enforcement power to decentralized digital sets of rules. For our own sake, I think it's high time we address our psychological problems first and foremost, raise our state of consciousness. But if decentralized protocols can help us thrive in the transition phase, so be it.
What I'm interested in is to sketch out more vividly and 'realistically', how it would be possible to transfer enforcement power to decentralized protocols other than the monetary system. Even with Bitcoin, there are debates to be had what's needed to actually run a healthy, thriving monetary system on Bitcoin. Are auxiliary protocols for different functions needed?
And then there's always the question of adaptability of protocols to changing circumstances. We may agree that if a core decentralized protocol runs in alignment with the laws of nature, it can be set in stone. But other areas need to be malleable and then who decides about the changes of the ruleset? The people through a voting mechanism? How is that run best?
These are questions I'm interested in exploring and exchanging about.

Absolutely, thank you! There are certain things for which thought simply isn't the right tool to base decisions on. I'm certain that if we made body and mind awareness an essential part of our education early on, it could be a game changer for health and well-being.

Everything you take too much of can be 'toxic' or unhealthy. The body paired with an aware mind, has a wonderful way of letting you know when things are too much. Our problem generally is, that we lack awareness of our bodily sensations and thought patterns. The more we train, or better the more we rekindle that awareness, the more we will know what's right for us individually in every single moment. Then we don't need to rely as much on rigid concepts of what's right or wrong. We just know intuitively, just for ourselves, better and better and there's no need for comparison with others.
In my experience, the sun obviously is THE amazing energy provider for us on Earth. So most of the times, I feel like bathing in it like a lizard. But when I feel too hot or the skin becomes sensitive, I withdraw to the shade. If shade is not around or possible, I wear a hat and long clothing. If that's unbearable or I am on water or in snow und only then as an absolute exception, I might take a sunscreen for protection. The more I am able to trust and follow my bodily sensations, the more I come to the conclusion that nature has provided wonderfully for us and no commercial care products are necessary.
I sometimes wonder what a medival trader in the Middle-East would have to say about such a debate.
