Earlier this year there was a lot of talk of pay to DM, and I don't remember it being unviable. Pay to reply is the obvious antispam. User should be able to set price, ideally per post so can be varied.
SM has to be about defaults that deal with stuff. People HATE running around having to block/mute. They want systems that deal with it - pricing is the obvious one. Idiots are at least generally sensible when it comes to not wasting their money.

Bitcoin, Hard Money, and TAXES
A word....
BTC is hard money with friction free transactions.
By existing, it will force Gvt to adopt hard money policies, or lose control of their fiat.
That has a HUGE consequence that crypto people hate talking about. Taxes.
Gvts will need to reshape their tax base, and crack down on leakage. The most simple way for them to do this is enhanced financial monitoring, tracking, KYC and tighter AML, including being able to track back to source wallets.
Long term, financial privacy is dead. BUT ALSO, rich person loopholes and deductions will get closed, so more equitable.

Some home truths for those who on one hand talk about bitcoin as the only sound money and we're gonna hyperbitcoinisation baby! BUT WHO ALSO somehow think that institutions are going to sit it out?
Mate, the first rule of money is that you do not get to choose who uses it. BTC isn't your personal CBDC... Money does not care about your philosophy. It just is. BTC doesn't care about Gvts, which is why we love it, but also, it doesn't care about us either. It just is what it is.
Institutions will jump in and do what they do. Which, for now, will be to pump the price. Because an ETF opens the door to many many TRILLIONS of retail investment. That doesn't mean it all goes to BTC, it means that a couple% does, and that can pop market cap by INTEGERx
This is good news for people who are long BTC.
Now for the paranoia.
Might that include a FORK to POS? Not in the short term. Would you use POS BTC? No. Would the FUD trash the price? Yes. Is that in the interests of institutions at this stage? No.
But longer term, AFTER BTC is a decatrillion* asset, and as such having serious impact on fiat? Still NO.
UNLESS
Unless Gvts decide that they will get together and regulate the privacy and ease of use away from OG BTC. And you do that by controlling the EXITS. You don't have to KYC a single onramp if you simply require that businesses accepting BTC, or offering an off ramp have to KYC and do reporting (inc wallet addresses).
Then you are made an offer that boils down to "use POS BTC and maintain your buying power" or "stick with OG BTC and put it in a safe with your Confederate Dollars".
The GOOD NEWS. If you are long on BTC today, and it does pan out dystopian, you'll be able to cry in your Ferrari, possibly while sitting in the drive of your beachside mansion.
My take, I'd love BTC to stay POW. Privacy, is probably going to die, at least for ticket items like houses, cars, and $10K+ off ramping. But if the worst comes to pass, there are worse fates than mortgage free home by the sea:-)
*Yes, decatrillion, 20x, 30x, 50x. That means BTC has scaled into a standard asset class and widely used money, threatening tax bases and no longer ignorable by Gvts.

Securities ? Yes, yes they are, get over it. Except bitcoin
Now, I can buy any crypto i like until the cows home because the SEC isn't trying to protect me and the UK has, so far, got sane regulations.
I used to be in finance, and digital money has been of interest since Chaum.
But by USA rules, and sticking to fundamentals, (ie ignoring the wriggle room where the lawyers live) it seems to me that all the crypto tokens are arguably securities except BTC. Even ETH. ETH is very much a bet on the work and future efforts of V himself.
Sensible regulation would focus on the proper management and systems of exchanges, and not so much on the products sold.
FWIW, I am mainly BTC, with a small experimental ETH and a couple of tiny, - badly timed :-( - L1s.

Bitcoin. What is important, in order:-
ADOPTION IS EVERYTHING : Bitcoin is, in theory, the best money ever invented. But it NOTHING is money unless it's adopted as such by general users.
So, Lightning is the practical money for bitcoin. ALL THAT MATTERS is adoption. It doesn't matter if a wallet is custodial or not. Just get people on a simple wallet, easy to use, loaded with a few bucks and tell them to SPEND.
All the rest is, for new people, confusion. Just keep it simple. "Here's your browser wallet, now I've sent you some sats, you can buy more with your card, and send/spend them."
Let them find the rest out later.

SOME alts are not shitcoins.
What they are NOT, and what BTC IS, is money.
Think of alts as like companies, where they have a model, which, if it works, provides useful service, and that service translates into token price increases.
IMO MOST of them have no future, but some are worth a small punt.

If you're a corporate treasury it's pretty hard to go outside the lines of "normal". If you do, and it goes wrong, you're toast. If it goes right, that's just you doing your job.
If I were a CEO I wouldn't want my CT touching BTC with a bargepole because the short term volatility is a killer, and I need to be focussed on the CT being a tool for whatever my core business is.

The BET is about the ability of Gvts to render bitcoin impractical by removing the on and off ramps to fiat (currently needed in order to stack sats).
The US Gvt seems keep to do so. On it's own, it just makes it harder for Americans to make money. And allows me, not Ameruican, to stack more sats.
But IF it becomes an effective international drive, that could certainly hurt.
I'm long because IF and EFFECTIVE are needed to blow me up. But I'm only as long as I can walk away from. Some people here talk like they would be wiped out if that happened. If they have assessed the risk and taken the view, fine. But they way they talk, they haven't. Those are the people I was hoping to reach.
My View - somewhere north of 80% chance of a 200K BTC by 2030, and somewhere south of a NIL. That's a no brainer to stack what I can afford to lose. But it's not a slam dunk bet the farm.

HERETICAL OPINION : BTC vs CASH is THE WRONG COMPARISION when looking at BTC as an investment.
Cash hasn't been considered a thing to hold term ever (well, maybe before WW1, but, long enough).
So, BTC as CASH MONEY - that's a chat about LN (which I love, because, brilliant).
BTC as store of value, you need to compare against other actual stores of value. Gold, land, equities, baskets of lowish risk stuff.
Against that, if you take a "they won't win" view, BTC does well and should do very well until it fills it's natural portfolio niche, which, yes, pick a number between 250K and 2M and a timeframe of 5-15 years, after which, it should get boring and solidly inflation proof.

Broad spread investments. They might not do much, but they should protect from inflation. IMO US equities tend to be overpriced so maybe avoid that market.
But BTC COULD go to zero. We are at the "then they fight you" stage, and we haven't yet got widespread merchant adoption. It's only money if it can be turned into food. It is possible that Gvts could in effect break that step IF they decide to co-operate to do so. UNLIKELY (I'm long, remember), but certainly not non zero.
CASH is not, and never has been, a thing to hold long term. To an extent the BTC vs Cash thing is valid re "lightning for instant settlement", but a red herring if it's "buy BTC for long term value". The correct comparator there is maybe gold, but better still, a "low risk" basket.

Bitcoin is a nice value retaining investment, and because we're early, also one likely to give us excellent appreciation.
But is isn't the second coming. It should be part of a portfolio, not all of it. Be aware that being high percentage BTC is a BET, and don't kid yourself otherwise.
It's actually a BET I have made, for reasons, but I am fully aware that there is a non zero probability it goes to zero. 21M of anything is only money if enough people agree to treat it as money. And that argument isn't yet won. I think it will be. But we're not there yet.

The point of money is being able to convert it to things you need, when you need them. Food, shelter, etc. THAT requires a counterparty that considers what you offer, to be money that they can spend in turn.
The MATH says "there will never be more than 21M BTC". Society determines what that will actually get you. It will get you more if 7BN people view it as money than if 2000 people on an island do.
The US passing silly rules isn't going to knock bitcoin down to worthless in dollar terms. MOST countries doing so, could.
I view this as an unlikely outcome, (it's why I'm long). But not an impossible one by any means.

If you want to argue that people on meds shouldn't have guns, we'd be in complete agreement.
But the reason most trans people are on meds like that is because society makes life pretty hard for them, not because of anything inherently trans. As can be seen where societies have a place for trans, or just don't make it an issue.
Also, corrolation cuts two ways. there is a 100% corrolation between people who commit mass shootings and who like guns. There is a much lower one if you run it the other way.

I for one will always be concerned that in trying to make a public world private, someone made a coding error. You can CLAIM to have bolted on privacy, but that's a statement I would have to take on trust because I lack the tech skills to read the code and verify.
I don't like trusting much. Obviously I have to at times, but that means that for private stuff, I go to things designed ground up to be private.
Obviously you can , and should, build whatever interests you, but if you have other ideas more suited to a public realm, maybe they would be better.

In an inflationary environment it's still very sensible to take on (affordable, or rent covered) debt for value holding assets like real estate, so long as you buy carefully.

So many Christians dodge the hard questions.
But not all. Some take the Word seriously and dedicate their life and resources to helping people.
To talk of faith is easy. But works matter. James, as you know.
In a BTC environment the question makes sense. The purpose of holding BTC must be to eventually spend it helping those in need. What other purpose can there be?

Privacy : Most people are looking at the wrong part of the process.
The Gvt cares about what happens when your funds rejoin the world, and even if your privacy is perfect until then, all big ticket items these days require you to dox yourself with KYC or official records of ownership of the car, house etc.
