I know there's not much to be done until I actually go in for the final interview (which I've been told is basically just a formality since this company has been after me for years) but here I am considering getting a real job. I'm even viewing a house on my way out there. One with the front porch I've always dreamed of having. Nice fireplace. The whole deal. It could be nice. I think I'd be able to do well. But I still can't fully picture myself in this type of situation.
I've been doing the touring thing for a decade. That's a decent chunk of time. I've accomplished a lot but there's also more I'd like to do, "more" being stuff that has been harder to come by because the world prioritizes incompetent men who are nonetheless professional ass kissers which I will never be. So quitting feels like losing to them which really burns me up inside.
I last tried working a full time real job when I was 24 because it was a fancy title at a half decent place and I knew my family would like it. I ended up rage quitting after 8 months cause it was so suffocating. But now I'm 32, this new place is very prestigious, there's lots of opportunity there for continued education which is great because I also dropped out of a fancy grad school where it felt more like I was there to teach people than learn anything myself (plus being surrounded by incompetent men who were nonetheless professional ass kissers).
Alas, in the end I suppose I just gotta wait for the interview. Vibe check the place. All that.

Once again shooting my shot at getting a job in classical music despite me swearing up and down I was done expending time and energy trying to gain a foothold in this space outside of the quickly cooked up diversity initiatives that were popular a few years ago. Once again I know I'm probably among the most qualified person who is bothering to apply to this job in the first place but watch them give it to some 25 year old with 1 year of administrative experience but nonetheless played clarinet at some prestigious music school. What does playing clarinet at a fancy school have to do with putting together and executing world tours? Nothing. But they tend to stick to hiring their own at these types of places. And here I am applying anyway. 🙃

I’m in a hotel lobby where Back to the Future is playing on mute. I’ve never seen this film but recognize the outfit of the protagonist and the car via pop culture osmosis.
It seems as if we are in the past rather than the future where no one seems alarmed about this man running around in jeans at a time when I don’t think denim existed.
Also, as with all 80s films it seems they like to portray the 50s as secretly pornographic under its squeaky clean exterior.
His car is broken because I guess it ran out of time travel gas.

Indeed. I think the truest forms of friendship are exceedingly rare. One friend of mine has spent her whole life wanting a "best friend." The ride or die do everything together type. I told her that what she's imagining doesn't genuinely happen in the lives of most people. She of course is under the impression that she is one of a handful of outliers who hasn't received a "best friend" certificate.
But I do think that if friendship held more cultural significance, more people would find themselves with deeper and higher quality friendships - on average - than they do right now.

I'm fine with boy scouts! After all, I do like Captain America. I guess DC in general never caught much of my attention. Metropolis seemed meh and I could never take him being allergic to rocks or the disguise very seriously. XD I did actually revisit the beginning of Smallville recently because new Superman stuff is coming. I'm looking forward to this upcoming retelling of the story. I'm also a slight fan of the guy they've got playing Lex Luthor. He looks like he'll do a good job. A feel good movie with a lot of heart and interesting villains usually sends me home a happy camper.

I'm set to work in DC for a government event in a few weeks over 4th of July weekend although after months of delayed hiring paperwork due to confusion caused by the administration and because of current events I'm left wondering....
1. If the event will happen.
2. If it happens, will I want to actually be there.

I'm usually a fan of darker colors but because of the August thing acknowledge that is likely not the way to go. Bright colors are largely unexplored by me but I figure maybe.... idk... some flavor of browns/off whites/yellows might be ok. But I feel like most people go for blue so when our group chat starts maybe we'll land on blue.
Wedding dress is a slim and strappy affair, floor length overlayed entirely with beads.

So I've had an apartment for two years during which the building has been swapped between four different management companies. The entire time, all my bills (I thought) were paid through the building because when I first moved in, this is what I was told.
I've been out on the road since February but my mom stopped by my place on Friday night to check something for me. A notice had been left on my door a month ago saying that my gas and electric had been turned off and I might have to pay up to $7000 to get it turned back on.
The apartment company says my gas is actually paid separately and that I should have a PECO account but every PECO number I call prompts me to provide an account number. They don't have any of my emails, my phone number, or my SSN on file because I was never prompted to make an account. And when trying to make one, I get to a screen that says I need an invite link from my apartment management company.
So now the apartment management company is finally looking into things on their end. Last time I was on tour, my water randomly got shut off and when I asked about it they said I must've not paid my bills. When I demonstrated that I had they said "oh, sorry," and immediately turned it back on.
I should've just stayed with the nuns. 🤡

Ever since I cut my hair a few years ago, I've had a lot of people (including my own mom) ask me what product I use to get my curl pattern. And I'm just like... water? I guess however my hair curls is desirable though it doesn't look any different to me than other people's hair. My mom insists I should be going for a bigger fro but once it hits 1/4" I shave it again. Ain't got no time for styling.

The oddest couple is forming on my tour. The woman is a Chicago theater kid who just a few weeks ago was offended by the notion of going anywhere south of DC because she thought past that point everyone are bible thumping bigots. Legit gagged the day we arrived in Alabama.
And she’s now getting with a backwoods Alabama god fearing Trump voter man who is nonetheless very kind but also stupid. Perhaps his stupid vibes with her crazy. And they are both objectively pretty people so maybe that’s all that matters.

I personally have not noticed any difference between Canadian and American men minus the accent. Though with French-Canadian men in particular there is a cultural divide that makes them uniquely frustrating to work with. XD

I've never been opposed to film/tv. But yes it's very location-based and all the unions are involved. I'm not living in a major entertainment hub at the moment but have told my tv friends that I'm looking for work. I've got friends on the crew of Daredevil and Severence which both film in NYC which is closest to me. Then of course once a year I apply to LucasFilm just to say I did but I'm always rejected by the bot within 24 hours. XD

Found it! Despite having worked numerous folk festivals, there’s usually such a big international component that I figured American folk consisted of more country music and hymns. Though if I had to describe the music in the film, I’d say it was some category of country. Country music with less noise. Could be for hippies, could also be for community gatherings in Appalachia.

Film Thoughts: Dirty Dancing
Have you ever wondered what "The Shining" would be like if it took place during the summer?
It's the 60s and it's time to go to summer camp but for the whole family! Gilderoy Lockhart is the dancing heartthrob of summer camp. Unfortunately he is both a presumed scoundrel and poor so even though wives throw themselves at him, daughters need not apply! In comes Baby(?) who may or may not be legal who discovers the secret den of the summer camp workers who engage in scoliosis-inducing dance moves - dancing dirtily. Turns out Gilderoy Lockhart is the opposite of what you expect him to be and while Baby learns a lot about the reality of being poor, everyone comes together in the end to acknowledge that kindness is power!
Despite its title and half the movie being dance training montages, I did not find most of the dancing to be that impressive. And despite this movie saying it is supposed to be the summer of 1963, our final dance number is to a track that is decidedly 80s. I am unsure why this choice was made. Once again a film showcases that if you just keep your hands to yourself, you can avoid a good chunk of life's problems. Nonetheless, we end with a positive message and I'm all about positive messaging.
As a side note, this film has also reminded me why it would be a headache to ever work for a cruise line. Imagine being stuck with the audience of your shows even when off the clock!
Rating: 6/10
It has been recommended to me to try watching the film "Trainspotting." So after the failure that was "Moulin Rouge," it's time I give Obi-Wan Kenobi a second chance.

So much chaos! And I’m sitting here like… well if I don’t get that summer contract money then I need to find something else to do!

So I usually take this government contract in the summers in DC. A decent sized production. Got told today the hiring freeze and unknown budget situation for the arts has all the year round hires confused and unable to make any progress in pre-production. Then some full timers don’t even live on DC so aren’t sure if they can keep working there or not in the first place since their remote work policy existed long before the pandemic. They still haven’t heard back on if they’re allowed to move forward with their internship program either.

I've spent maybe 17 seconds of my life ever thinking about Neil Gaiman but is it blasphemous for me to say I wouldn't be shocked if David Tennant got busted for something similar at some point? Yes I enjoy him in Doctor Who but irl he always gives me weird vibes. XD

See just as I was happy weaning myself off cereal because my mom kept pestering me about how unhealthy they all were, this happens!

I mean after enough alarming headlines I might just head down to military surplus for some MREs, get some defensive supplies from Home Depot, and hope for the best. We ain't there yet though. XD
