Haha, I'm not surprised! If I were managing a professional digitization program I might make different choices, but IMO there's a significant budget and needs overlap between personal digitization, lower budget organizations, and student work.

My IT8 comes from Wolf Faust, who sells good quality charts for quite cheap: http://www.targets.coloraid.de
At the start of every scanning session, I scan the IT8 chart before I scan the actual things I care about. Then, when I'm done, I use that IT8 scan to produce a calibrated colour chart I can then use to automatically correct every image I've scanned.
Scanning the IT8 every session is probably overkill, but it's a useful hedge against the scanner light changing over time.

I realized I've never written about my automated colour correction workflow for scanning. Might be helpful for some people.
Because I often scan large numbers of things in a session, I don't want to do any colour correction by hand. Instead, I use a fully automated workflow. I do calibration via an IT8 chart, a colour chart with a large number of swatches covering different a wide range of colours.

Until maybe two years ago, even the briefest outage on GitHub was *instantly* reflected on the status page. These days, minor incidents go unreported entirely, and major incidents can go 5-10 minutes without making the status page. I deeply hope this gets fixed someday, because it's not good.

It's genuinely remarkable to me that the *entirety of github.com* has been down for several minutes and there's not a breath about it on the status page. Nothing! githubstatus.com says “all systems operational".
This is clearly not acceptable, and whoever's responsible for setting policy on updating the status page really needs to look at the site and realize this isn't how things should be.

Question for other #mastoadmin people: I've had a user get followed by a Flipboard account - looks like one of those ones set up to aggregate random interesting fediverse content. The user wasn't sure what to make of it.
Any opinions on these from a privacy perspective? How well-behaved is Flipboard? Anything I should be concerned about here as an admin?

Pinboard question: totally aside from any views the guy may hold, did he ever end up fixing the software? Last I heard a bunch of stuff has broke over the past few years and users haven’t been able to get ahold of him for support. Any better now or is it about as broken?

This is really bad. The right-click workaround was never *good*, but it was simple enough to be usable for the average user. Many people aren't going to figure out how to use this new system.

I feel like the funny thing for me with the Tiktok ban is that a lot of Americans, on either side of the debate, don't seem to realize that Tiktok feels to Americans like every single social media platform feels to people outside the US. You're telling me the app is located outside your country and your government's control, and you don't know how its data gets handled in that country? That's every app, to me.
