Ideal for crossings is not dropped kerbs of course (curb cuts for Americans.) It's bringing the road surface at the crossing point up the the level of the pavement, so it's flat all the way for people walking and wheeling.

Just donated a dehumidifier to the local charity shop. Had to walk up the street (the shop is on my street) pushing it on a small luggage trolley, trying to pretend to be invisible.
Moments like that are when I (as an able bodied person) notice how bad the pavement surfaces are, and how poor the supposed dropped kerbs at crossing points are. 😡 It's no wonder I see people who use mobility scooters sometimes having to use the road. They probably can't get back onto the pavement. 😡

Lost cat found under floorboards using thermal imaging camera. Silly kitty got into a hole while building work was happening in his home and got trapped for two days. The builder borrowed a thermal imaging camera usually used to find damp patches in walls, and located the missing moggy.

Ooh, just learned how to do the long tail cast on, and it's great. My first row always looks very messy when using the simple cast on, and that's just not going to be good enough for making nice neat squares for the blanket I'm planning. Long tail = much neater result. I'll practice that a bit with some scrap yarn and get cracking soon on the nice blue yarn I've got for my first batch of squares.

Use the good things to make today the special occasion. When they come to clear your house when you're dead, let them find full journals and empty bottles. Not the other way around.

Re photo ID for voting. Just a note that they don't seem to accept the Post Office Easy ID app as an ID (even though that's based on legit ID like driving licence or passport.)
I don't know for certain if it's officially not accepted, but the polling station staff I asked the first time we had to use ID said no, so if you have that, don't rely on it for the election. Take along the actual ID.

#WritersCoffeeClub 14: Do you have a sense of how much plot you need for how long a manuscript?
What works for me is seeing how many scenes I've got. If I'm trying to reach a specific word count, like 50k for NaNoWriMo, 60k for a paperback release with my publisher, then at some point I'll just make a big list of all the scenes/events. The magic number is 30, (assuming an average of 2k words per scene) where I think, yeah, that's enough material to start building an outline on.

Watched a video last night about how climate change is effing up the Panama canal, because it uses a load of water from lakes to operate the locks, and climate change, exacerbated recently by El Nino has led to poor rainy seasons failing to refill the lakes. And that can lead to waits to use it being so long because of water rationing that companies choose to send ships round the longer routes instead, so burning more fuel, making more emissions, more climate change... and so the cycle goes on.

First proper #knitting project complete. Just a nice simple infinity scarf in super chunky yarn. Wraps twice around my neck.

But really it's just 10 rows knit, 6 rows of stockinette, until it's as long as you want, and finish on a stockinette section before joining up. Used 10mm/US size 15 needles and 2 100 gram skeins of yarn.

Re-use tip for the new year. Did you know that that lids from Nescafé Azera cans (and others in same kind of package) fit perfectly onto the usual standard cans you get soup and beans and veg in? Don't recycle them soon as you finish the coffee. Keep 'em for any time you've got an open can stored in the fridge.

Remembering Sundara's trip to the zoo's fruit and veg supplier, shortly after her arrival at Newquay Zoo, in May this year. Presumably too impatient to wait for her apples to be delivered. Maybe my favourite red panda story this year, if only for the pictures.

Put a broad nib on my Lamy Studio and now I'm all "never changing my thicc darling."
Lots of fountain pen people seem to be into finding the finest extra fine that ever drew a line one atom wide, and I do have a fine nibbed fountain pen too, but for really enjoying writing, broad is the way to go for me. (If I need to write something on a grain of rice, I've got my Signo Bit for that. 😏 )
Inked with Diamine Blue Pearl, a dark, warm blue with silver shimmering effect.
