I tried an electron-based container app today which integrates a terminal.
Opening one terminal and running btop for a few seconds got me 522mb of memory usage across three processes, with very little shared memory between them.
VTE with 10 tabs, all those GPU shaders, rendered svgs, etc was ony 58 after subtracting shared pages.

If you're running #Asahi on #Fedora there are new packages about to arrive for GTK 4.12.4. It should help improve things greatly!

GNOME Terminal master is now based on GTK 4. If you want to help get it ready for release in GNOME 46, jump in and help out! I really don't have much more time myself to dedicate to this, it was just a quick side-project.

If you geek out on compression and are interested in dipping your toes into a project like GLib, https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/-/issues/3149 might be a fun project to work on.
Add something like GZlibCompressor which does LZ4.
I'd be happy to mentor/point someone in the right direction because I just don't have the time to do it myself.
Likely you can copy a lot from the zlib implementation.

Maybe it's just me but compiler performance feels *way* faster in Asahi Linux than under macOS.

RS7 work day. Few things to replace still this week. For what the RS7 is, you’d think they could put on some decent silicone couplers.

@npub1f66…4yr7 Only the middle is a PRS (Core 24 w/ Floyd). On the left is one I built and on the right is a 58' custom reissue.
The PRS 50-watt 2 channel has the tubes replaced with vintage 80's military grade sylvania 6L6 and yes, it's glorious.
