Last Notes npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper Y'all. “My country fought for me to get back,” Griner said. “And I was able to bring home gold for my country. There's just no greater feeling.” https://sports.yahoo.com/brittney-griner-weeps-after-winning-third-olympic-gold-medal-my-country-fought-for-me-to-get-back-181705316.html?guccounter=1 npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub1ugh…92hc er, probably a '69. https://www.smokymountaintraders.com/cars-for-sale/428/1969-chevrolet-el-camino-ss npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub1a4g…yuyx yeah, I don't see why she had to make it vulgar. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub1a4g…yuyx it mostly already is. She leans into it on the Tiny Desk. It's Americana at least. If she added a pedal steel player, it'd tip all the way over into country. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper Dark Matter seems to be about a guy who invents interdimensional travel and travels through many dimensions just because he blew it with Jennifer Connelly 20 years ago. That makes sense to me. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub1ulm…hweg Hopper window is the type. I dunno about screen options. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper I've seen this make the rounds a few times, but mostly with no or incorrect alt text. https://media.mas.to/media_attachments/files/112/634/382/005/723/281/original/a682c97190325cee.png npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub1a4g…yuyx just a buncha dumb guys who somehow (kowtowing to capital) ended up in the most powerful positions in the world. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper Once again catching up on #NEWAL and the 5th season is so full of awkward and uncomfortable interactions. It's not cozy at all. I remembered not liking this season, but I didn't remember why, and maybe I never knew why at the time. But, definitely not my kind of TV, the characters are barely recognizable in some of these episodes. Currently on E21, Ron and Eric's wedding ep, hating it. Everybody's so prickly and unpleasant. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper Going through old photos, and it's incredible that even seven years ago, a casual snapshot taken with a mid-range phone (a Moto X4) could look like this. We have 4-6x more pixels now, even on phones. Bonkers. Dunno why I'm not shooting more photos (maybe because my neck of the woods in Dallas is not very photogenic, gotta get back on the road). https://media.mas.to/media_attachments/files/112/509/984/212/722/287/original/dd18eae94b65ebb4.png https://media.mas.to/media_attachments/files/112/509/984/682/139/131/original/0f579ce73f4cb694.jpg npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub156n…mvgw Fender Mustangs. And, I think the fender is for a Mustang car. So...they're kinda on the money? But, also nonsensical. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub156n…mvgw I've bought a few guitars lately. Google has suggestions targeted to my recent interest in Fenders. https://media.mas.to/media_attachments/files/112/219/636/146/471/856/original/3d99142922c9d421.png npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper The abusive behavior that was being used to manipulate Lasse Collin into bringing on more maintainers for #xz went unnoticed because abusive behavior in Open Source communities is so pervasive. In context, we can clearly see it was part of an orchestrated operation. Out of context, it looks like just another asshole complaining about stuff they have no right to complain about. https://robmensching.com/blog/posts/2024/03/30/a-microcosm-of-the-interactions-in-open-source-projects/ npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper Now we're talking. Let's fling an inanimate object. #NEWAL npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper Poor Larry Bob. #NEWAL npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper The thing about hand-made flutes I never understand is how to get the tuning precise. You've got no fixed dimensions to calculate from, so there has to be some way of adjusting after drilling each hole. Ed's film doesn't cover that aspect of it, but I bet somebody on YouTube has. #NEWAL npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub15rr…a8vj which is a damned shame, because "af" is objectively a top-tier top-level. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper Opposite Joel is even more annoying than regular Joel. #NEWAL npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper Finally caught the start of a #NEWAL. I like One Who Waits. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub1zdp…vqv8 I've never met a cat that wasn't a sleeping expert. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub1typ…c8hh omg, "Jessie's got himself a squirrel and I want to make her mine" "and she's loving him with that body I just know it". I am uncomfortable with explicit depictions of interspecies love triangles. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper That monster didn't kill nearly enough people. #Monsterdon npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper The Onion literally never misses. https://www.theonion.com/the-onion-stands-with-israel-because-it-seems-like-yo-1850922505 npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub19qm…sn8k Oh, I generally agree with your point. I just think it's interesting what happens when "popular" right-wing talking heads lose their backing, and I think it says something about how the most extreme views are normalized by money. I think popularity is complicated, and I think a lot of what seems popular is so because a "mainstream" outlet like Fox is spewing it every day. I just think it is a two-way street. Fox isn't merely providing what viewers want...they're steering them. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub19qm…sn8k I don't know if this quite follows. Now that Tucker has lost his billionaire backers, his viewership and reach has fallen off a cliff. He had the number one show because of a convergence of service to a specific set of very rich people and catering to the worst impulses of mostly rural and suburban white Americans. It takes a lot of money to make those repulsive views seem acceptable and mainstream. The money is still backing the project, it's just looking for a new figurehead. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper Deer Lady is back! Love Deer Lady. #ReservationDogs npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper On the sad news of Bram Moolenaar's passing, I've been thinking about vim and the role it's played in my life. vim is among my oldest friendships. I've used vim longer and more than any other piece of software I can think of. Young me used the young vim on Amiga more than three decades ago, and every computer since has had vim. I've written almost all my code in vim. I wrote a book in vim. I've edited infinite config files in vim. In my muscle memory "edit text" is spelled "vim". 1/? npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub1683…f0qg I want a station wagon, but almost nobody makes a proper one anymore. Back in the day, you could haul full 4x8 sheet goods in a wagon. My Tahoe doesn't even come close. But, a minivan is a reasonable alternative to a big wagon. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub1683…f0qg this was a great episode! npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub1683…f0qg after my previous laptop was stolen, I bought a Framework laptop, so I can just keep fixing it (I'm hard on laptops, all previous ones were replaced because I broke them in some difficult to fix way, but even those usually lasted three to five years). Computers just don't change in interesting ways, anymore, so no need for a new one. A lot of RAM is all I need. npub1u36rqkvjju6f6dtzahkp005qrl9y4qamu8j3rpme4df4d6ry6l8qu0xlpg Joe Cooper @npub19qm…sn8k I get the impression the federation features of Bluesky are also a problem (as in, not really possible to implement in a way that doesn't depend on Bluesky's feed index). So, I wonder if it's not based on ActivityPub because ActivityPub is very easy to implement, and actually allows independent instances with federation, and they don't actually want any instances that aren't directly dependent on them. I would give them the benefit of the doubt if they weren't who they are.
