If encouraging you to think for yourself rather than feeling like you only deserve to repeat the thoughts of others is agressive, I’m not sure you are conversing in good faith.
Regardless, it bears repeating that you and everyone are capable of thinking for yourselves and deserve to do so. I merely suggested that you could do so by engaging durectly with a source before accepting what someone else tells you to think about it.

If you’d like yo know if someone is authoritarian, just go directly to that person’s words and actions. You don’t need someone else (including the “Ray Peat”) to tell you what to think. THAT is authoritarian. You (like everyone) deserve to be free and think for yourself.

Understanding propaganda and having critical literacy skills is essential. You dint need to have Chomskyian encyclopedic knowledge to do this, just some media theory and systemic analysis which can be applied to your own context as you need it.

One of Chomsky’s famous sayings starts with, “If the Nuremberg Laws were applied … ” Here’s what he said about Kennedy in that context:
“Kennedy is easy. The invasion of Cuba was outright aggression. Eisenhower planned it, incidentally, so he was involved in a conspiracy to invade another country, which we can add to his score. After the invasion of Cuba, Kennedy launched a huge terrorist campaign against Cuba, which was very serious. No joke; bombardment of industrial installations with killing of plenty of people, bombing hotels, sinking fishing boats, sabotage. Later, under Nixon, it even went as far as poisoning livestock and so on. Big affair; and then came Vietnam; he invaded Vietnam. He invaded South Vietnam in 1962. He sent the US Air Force to start bombing.”
And then in “On Democracy,” a 1996 interview by Tom Morello:
“Kennedy is not even worth discussing. The invasion in South Vietnam – Kennedy attacked South Vietnam, outright. In 1961-1962 he sent Air Force to start bombing villages, authorized napalm. Also laid the basis for the huge wave of repression that spread over Latin America with the installation of Neo-Nazi gangsters that were always supported directly by the United States. That went on and in fact picked up under Johnson.”

On yesterday’s rumor debacle, it’s an interesting reflection of what corporate/mainstream platforms like X elevate. Take Jacobin and The New Statesman, who are both generally considered credible but who ran Noam’s obituaries yesterday without first verifying if he had actually died. This plus millions of tweets blew up in a fake news explosion.
Both publications gave into pressure to be first, be shocking, and therefore be the most viral over prioritizing journalistic rigor. This is a demonstration of how the media ecosystem pressures publications to seek virality over trust in a systemic way. It’s only logical that if you want to survive and thrive as a publication or journalist, you will respond to the pressure that this structure applies. So though it’s no excuse, we can understand how it happened.
But as users/consumers of media, this does not serve us well at all.
Hence why we here and at @npub1xm0…gs6s are supporters of @npub1wmr…g240 , @npub1pu3…tfch , and all who are working to revolutionize a true people’s media via liberatory platforms and structures.

Z Magazine was founded in 1987, by two of the co-founders of South End Press (f. 1977), Lydia Sargent and Michael Albert. In the opening days, a few writers’ support was critical to the project’s success, including: Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, bell hooks, Edward Herman, Holly Sklar, and Jeremy Brecher. Z developed into a major left-wing, activist-oriented publication that went fully online in 1995, later becoming ZNet.
