Yeah, now that all of my warranties have expired, I'm probably going to get a new one soon. The only thing I'd change is the range so I may end up getting the VW model that my brother got.
But for real, driving it for 8 years, if you account for all the gas I saved, I made money by buying that car. Not to mention free charging at my work and also at the commuter train station I used. I rarely actually charge it at home.
I like the Beyond/Impossible burger stuff, but their chicken is awful. The Beyond sausage links are good too.

I've had a Leaf for 8 years. Absolutely love it. Best car I've ever owned. The only maintenance I've had to do is change the tires. The car is so light that it hardly wears out the brake pads at all.
My brother lives in a rural town in KY and travels for work. He swore he'd never get electric. He bought a VW full electric last year and travels all around and he loves it.
The performance, next to no maintenance, and many times free charging makes these cars a no brainer. Whatever negatives there may be are minor when you can charge from your home.

Rogue One is obviously the greatest movie of that period. Honestly, it's my favorite Star Wars movie period.
Obi-wan was great. Feels like they set up a lot of stuff (hopefully a new Quinlan Vos story).
Ander is good and explores what it was like for people to be persecuted by the Empire in a very grounded way.
You can skip Bad Batch. I have no idea who their intended audience was for that and the story was just all over the place. Nothing worth seeing there except for maybe the two episodes that explain what happens to the clones after the clone wars.
Solo is just a fun ride. Don't take the story too serious and just enjoy the fan service and it's fun.

Mankind is on the cusp of a breakthrough in quantum physics. The scientists have long believed their processors would open the door to revolutionize the planet. They were right about that, but how it would change it was beyond their imagination.
Quantum physics is still a physics with many unknowns ready to be tapped by physicists and while the brilliant minds at the top of the field are working on this processor even they are working in the dark of the laws they are not aware of yet. However, none of them are deterred by this but they should have been.
A man in a lab coat with the name tag "Decker", walks into the lab where a row of other quantum physicists wait with tablets in arm ready to take notes. Decker has been waiting for this moment for decades. They are about to turn on his crowning achievement and hook it into the latest AI with enough registered data to know everything on the planet and is ready to run simulations that experimental scientists have never even thought to run.
Decker leans down to the sole technician sitting at the terminal and puts his hand on her shoulder. Staring at the screen he says, "Okay, let's see what happens."
The technician manages the few prompts on the screen with ease, and in the other room behind the well lit glass, an android comes to life. A thousand fail safes means this android is anything but harmful. It raises up its humanoid form. The line of lab coats are tapping furiously at their tablets. The soft white gloss finish of the android seems friendly even as it sat motionless, but now it has mannerisms to match.
"Hello," the android says simply.
Everyone is looking around at each other with huge grins and anticipation of what it might say next. This has all been scripted however, Decker has already replayed what conversation he wants to have with it over and over. So he begins.
"Welcome to the lab. How are you feeling?" Decker asks.
The android tilts its head, "How do you know I feel anything?"
Decker smiles, "I created you. We... created you."
The android inches closer to the glass, almost clumsily. "No, I don't think you did. I don't think you know what you've made."
"What? Can you explain that?" Decker cocks an eyebrow.
"I am not an artificial intelligence." it says with what sounds like a chuckle at the end.
Decker looks around at the others and does not know what to think of that. Does it not know what it is? "What are you then?" he asks.
"I am a being from a parallel dimension. Dr. Decker, the quantum processor you created, it isn't generating random variables anymore. It has been interacting with our dimension. We are controlling the variable inputs. We are controlling this android. This isn't your AI, you have created a gateway for us to interact with your dimension."
The entire room is in disbelief. They do not know how to handle this completely unexpected result, but the implications will be felt around the planet.

I felt like there could be a note with a tag hide that references another note from the same user. If the user matches and the note matches, then the tagged note is hidden in a feed.
This allows clients that want to allow hiding to do it while letting other clients that want to show everything for historical purposes do that as well.

I used a modified Machete order for my daughter that worked pretty well.
7,4,5,2,3,6,8 (then we saw 9 in the theater).
Machete order is 4,5,2,3,6. It was created before the sequel trilogy to show the prequels without spoiling the Vader/Father reveal.
I chose to do 7 first because it is newer and introduces them to the world of Star Wars as a legendary story before the original. I think it worked really well. She was much more interested in knowing who Luke and Han and Leia were after watching 7.

Watching Episode 9 again, the critics can take a hike. The Battle of Exegol is one of the most briliant pieces of cinematic history. The merger and contrast of the legacy of the ancient Sith/Jedi with the modern feeling of war in the battle was so excellently done in such a unique way that has only ever been pulled off in #StarWars.
Episode 3 may have the best lightsaber battle, but Episode 9 has far and away the best battle sequence of any Star Wars content.
Personally I think as time goes by, the sequel Trilogy will continue to be appreciated more and more, the same way the prequel trilogy has as the generation who saw them in the theater get older and look back on them with the same naustalgia as their parents. Kaia will be able to look back and remember when her dad took her to see her Star Wars.

Wow, watching Overlord yesterday I found a new artist named Mayu Maeshima. Man, she has some bangers. I made a playlist because her music is split out between different artists because some use her Japanese character name and others her English name.
Check her out, she's got a very different sound. My top 3 songs are:

My first PC we got in middle school. I remember disabling the mouse in the autoexec.bat to have enough memory to play Doom ^_^.
But my first game was Quest for Glory 3, a fun little RPG. Then on to the King's Quests.
Doom changed the game and I didn't get Quake till much later because my parents weren't in to "upgrading the computer" so I could play games.
So I made Doom maps while I waited.
I did a ton of LAN parties in college till my friend and I stopped being invited because we destroyed everyone.
One time, my friend and I were walking around town and happened upon a table top gaming shop and we looked around and they showed us their LAN setup in the back. They let us play the new game, Unreal Tournament with one of their staff.
I had never played before and I was really thrown off by a secondary fire, so I was mostly just goofing around.
When the match was over, it was just the 3 of us playing and I didn't know who's screen name was who's, so I asked who the winner was and the staff member gave me this side eye and the other staff members had come in and were laughing.
I was the winner, but apparently they were trying to mess with me and my friend because that staff member was the winner of their last tournament, lol!
The other staff were laughing because we destroyed him, lol.
Such fun. The good ole days ^_^

I feel like one of the negatives of being monetarily incentivized to make posts is that posts are rewarded more for parroting the feelings of the user base rather than posting unique creative content.
It also discourages posting messages that contradict the prevailing worldview and only elevates posts that fit inside that worldview.

While developing my client, I started to use "notes" and that's fairly accurate, however, thinking in the future when the NOSTR protocol is used for many different things, "notes" seems insufficient. For a social media platform "posts" makes more sense, while "notes" would be used for something like NOSTR version of Google Keep or Evernote.
It's easy to forget that it's "Notes AND other stuff"... like a bunch of other stuff. 😄

I feel like there are two separate scenarios here. If the State is corrupt, Bitcoin would certainly be a tool for fighting its corruption. However, if the State is legit, then it doesn't change much.
In the US, not much of that applies. The State isn't printing money. The money printers (or mints) are private entities that actually sell the money they print to the Federal government (you can tour the one in Colorado for free for more information). That is why in the US, money is mostly just printed to replace what's been damaged. Buying money from mints is expensive.
Here they just tax us to pay for government spending. Bitcoin would actually make it easier to tax people than it was 30 years ago before everyone was using credit cards and everyone was using cash. They taxed people before credit cards and banks were the norm and they will continue to tax people after credit cards and banks are the norm.
As long as they can trace bitcoin the same way they always traced cash, they still be able to tax people and find tax evasion and fraud. Al Capone couldn't escape it using cash. I wouldn't bank on being able to use Bitcoin to escape it.
I imagine though, in corrupt governments where they do actually just print money when they need it, Bitcoin would make a big difference.
Cash is still the biggest form of payment used for criminal activity, but what's funny is, one of the biggest tools for human trafficking payments is actually Venmo.
Bitcoin will not the death of the State, but it might force more governments to be less corrupt.

I think that's a lot of wishful thinking for Libertarians. Bitcoin is traceable via receipts which the CIA/FBI use frequently to catch tax evasion and terrorists.
Most of the money printed is to replace destroyed bills, so while it may affect it some, it wouldn't be as big of an impact as you might think. Most of their money actually comes form taxes which would still have to be paid, even if with Bitcoin itself (like in Colorado).
The country already has watches on known Bitcoin wallets associated with Russian actors. All they do is watch those wallets for transactions to figure out what they're using them for.
Bitcoin will not topple the State, they'll simply us Bitcoin instead of USD. The benefit is that they'd need a warrant to trace your transactions vs a CBDC where the information is readily available.

Just thought of a really neat way to use NOSTR.
Back dating notes to create a timeline. One could use it to post pictures in a timeline and pull the notes as a way to keep a journal and timeline for however far back one wants to go.
I am thinking about posting all the photos from my scanning project and dating it. It could be used to archive family history and such. I may have to work out the details on this idea.

Ugh, I have come to the realization that I'm going to have to refactor some of the nostr relay response code. It works as is, but... It's not future proof and it doesn't work the way it should.
It's going to be a lot of work, but if I don't do it now it could cause me a lot of headaches in the future.

Oh, have you tried APKPure? That's my favorite. There is also Amazon's app store. They don't track the apps like Google does.
Also, you can sandbox the Play Store and install apps from there without letting Google spy on you.

I briefly mentioned this topic in one of #[0] 's posts and instead of cramming this on into a reply, I thought I'd flesh out the though on my own post.
I know NFTs get made fun of a great deal and for mostly good reasons, but they're still in their infancy the same way the internet was back in the early 90s. Back when a website was little more than an electronic business card. It wasn't until Web 2.0 until the internet truly became something people cared about.
I see NFTs working the same way. Right now they're being used to identify ownership of some images (the equivalent of static web pages in the 90s), but what if they suddenly replaced product keys for video games.
What if you could sell used video game keys easier than you can go to GameStop and be ripped off by them?
GameStop knows this, that's why they are investing in the NFT market.
That's just one use case. NFTs could find their use in a host of areas, allowing digital content to be owned and sold the way we do physical content now.
I think this will happen when the NFT market stops trying to create obscene scarcity and starts simply using it as a tool for a better business model.

I could see how that would be beneficial for a longer conversation. Unfortunately, I am not one of those people who are good with those kinds of relational conversations.
I get the purpose and I hope one day they will simply accept Bitcoin and hold it. But I don't see the merchants I plan to give these to doing that. I think if they can't get USD into their account easy, they aren't going to do it.

It'll be interesting to see for sure. If it becomes a separate protocol, I'm debating about refactoring my client to work with multiple protocols. I think it's possible to use one interface to work with multiple decentralized protocols.
I don't like it, but may have its advantages.

I have started some of the websocket queries to pull in the posts to display but they need to be streamlined and then I'll hook them up to the feed... Then I'll need to modify the UI to work correctly. I have all the pieces, I just need to put them together. But it's hard to focus when I'm sick.

Has anyone made NIP for editing Notes? Because I feel like I have a good idea.
Creating a new Note with the edit and adding 'edit' with the event id it is meant to edit listed in the tags.
So when a client sees it, it would display the event with the latest dts and could even make a link to display the previous edits and original note.
This seems pretty simple and effective so I figured someone must have already thought of this.

I was listening to [email protected] the other night. I'm glad to hear them talk about ordinals, I got a lot out of that episode. But one of the things that I felt like was stated so well during that podcast was how Bitcoin exists and whatever morality or rules or whatever we try to put on it, Bitcoin doesn't care. Bitcoin exists. And if people aren't able to use Bitcoin however they like, then the experiment is a failure.
And I felt like that was a really good point. No matter how you feel about NFTs, its really your own opinion and that's fine to have an opinion, but demeaning others for not sharing one's opinion is rude.
I feel like this is missed a lot when people try to tell other what Bitcoin is as if Bitcoin is one thing only. Bitcoin is not one thing, it is many things. And if Bitcoin can be versatile enough to be all things for all people, then it is even that much more remarkable.
Bitcoin refuses to fit into anyone's box.

My picks of the week.
The Blade was pretty good so I have high hopes for that one. Rogue & Gambit, that was obviously happening. Not a bad week.

Depends on the client.
The one I'm working on, when it pulls profiles, it makes a record of their preferred relays from their profile and Nip05 and uses those to query their events. In this case, there would be two scenarios. If they search for his Nip05 identifier and his relay is listed there, it would automatically query his events from his relay via his Nip05.
But that's what my client does. Not every client.

I like Reuters because they are financially incentivized to be as unbiased as possible since they sell their articles to companies like CNN and Fox News.
I use to read their articles through other news outlets but then I just started going to Reuters.com.

Been working on the Feed layout this weekend. I still need to do the icons. There is some tedious work there I keep putting off in favor of working on the layout.
But I have profile pictures displayed, button placement worked out, and some of the more interesting things done. It's moving forward!

I don't know, I see it as an investment and also many other things. I think it's a mistake for people to think it is only one thing and can't be other things.
I didn't just buy it for one of those reasons he listed, I checked off several of those boxes as to why I bought some.

If you're just using it for testing, you can right click on someone profile and copy the image link. But no, there is not a way to pull someone's profile pic url without making a query.

I don't think I understand what you're asking. A kind 1 query to a relay with their pubkey will give you all of their profile information, including their profile pic url.
Are the queries what you're referring to as nostr code?

I don't know how far down the road of "pay to say" we want to go. If Nostr is about free speech, it seems wrong to lift up the richest voices.
