most people already "rent" their phones from the carrier. Also they are like cars, they loose half their value the moment the package is opened. So generally renting is just gonna be more expensive than buying.

with how popular hardware virtualization features and os compatibility have become, maybe there would be a time where hobbyist OS could simply use a more commercial kernel like linux or NT to bridge hardware it doesn't natively support with hardware virtualization and support applications not yet written (or doesn't want to write) with userspace compatibility layers.

I wonder if you made your own mounts for the panels and if you have some pictures/description of the awning.
I'm thinking about doing something similar for my back porch, instead of making a traditional roof/awning. But I'm not sure how solar panel mounts would work or if there's something off the shelf for this purpose.
Been following your blog for a while, this is such a cool project!

I thought the whole issue was that some applications are not (maybe never?) supported by Xwayland, so no solution that's based on Xwayland would work for those applications?

interesting, I would assume rounding down would be more sensible if it's a requirement for the crypto to work. I guess this is also why tailscale uses a mtu of 1280 to ensure it doesn't run into these issues.

users of "stable" distros like debian/rhel/suse/etc should definitely file their bug with the distro first. As upstream it's probably a good idea to ask for receipts first in case a user skipped that step.

this is quite interesting, would the analog be that in one case you are performing some service for the user (just using a software to do it), and the the other case you are sort of renting the software to them as a whole, in effect distributing the software?
