they also "protect" the weirdest things against "bots" I mean if it were just the final submission page for various forms I would at least understand the motivation but often it's random informational pages or even worse something that's ALREADY BEHIND A LOGIN WTF

what is a bit concerning is the chokepoint that the high end fabs represent. it seems plausible that all chips become locked down the way most mobile devices are where only the manufacturer has control over the root of trust. it's a small step from there to everything on your device running under a government approved hypervisor
