Films that really deserve a Blu-ray release #13:
P'tang, Yang, Kipperbang (Michael Apted, 1982). Back in the early eighties, this delightful coming of age drama was part of British TV channel, Channel Four's, "First Love" series of films. It was part of their launch week schedule. P'tang, Yang, Kipperbang is sweet, unforgettable, very quotable, and—not on Blu-ray!

Films that really deserve a Blu-ray release #11:
Take an Easy Ride (Kenneth F. Rowles, 1976). A British public information film, a cautionary tale about the dangers of hitchhiking or an exploitation roughie. This eccentric short could be described as a strange and fascinating combination of all three. As with films Duane Esper, it seeks to deliver sleazy thrills from what it pretends to condemn. A perfect Flipside candidate.

Films that really deserve a Blu-ray release #9:
A Canterbury Tale (Directors: Emeric Pressburger and Michael Powell, 1973).
Not to be confused with a similarly titled Pasolini film, this Powell and Pressburger effort is the most romantically British of British wartime films. With it's wheat fields and cathedrals it's a vision of Dear Blighty straight out the world of a Sir John Betjemen poem. Glorious. Yet sadly unavailable on Blu-ray.

@npub1lpd…aztj It is worth a month or two. Lots of cracking vintage television and a few decent films from the earlier days of Film4. Also.. The brilliant "First Love" series of movies.. P'tang Yang Kipperbang, Those Glory Glory Days etc. It's good.

I'm not certain if Carry on Camping is one of them, but I think I noticed recently that Britbox had a couple of Carry on films in HD. But not ones that are currently on blu.

Eugenie de Sade (Jess Franco, 1973). There are, of course, way over a hundred Jess Franco films yet to make it onto Blu-ray. But, still, Eugenie de Sade is a classic of the genre. And, THAT costume worn by Soledad Miranda!!! Isn't it something!? Please make this one next!

Carry on Camping (Gerald Thomas, 1969). Very much bang in the middle of the golden age of the Carry On cycle, this saucy seaside postcard of a movie was, back in the day, something of a Bank Holiday staple. With so many of the sixties and seventies British saucy comedy now getting the HD treatment, attention really needs to turn to this import part of low brow British popular culture.

In my humble opinion, The House With Laughing Windows represents the very best of what the giallo filone has to offer. That it's yet to be picked up by any distributor remains a real puzzle to me. There may be perfectly valid reason why this is the case. But it better be a good one and, besides, you know what? I don't want to hear it!
