Please consider that some computer touchers and users just want something that broadly works without too much hassle and uses something made by assholes, sometimes evil ones, not because they agree with the assholes, but as a compromise because the other option(s) would completely fuck up or complicate their daily usage and/or workflow, and folks like me just don't have the fucking energy for the tech holy wars and trying to learn and use the *most correct* ™️ thing.
For example, my main systems run with systemd not because I necessarily agree with the project's goals or the devs' opinions, but because it provides the least friction out of the options available with the way I want to use my system.
Open source/libre die-hards who thumb their nose at anything and everything proprietary as well as the people who use such things (not necessarily voluntarily) frustrate me similarly.
I wish I had the energy for all that, but I really don't.

As far as I know, they only worked with Ubi for an Assassin's Creed DLC, but Ubisoft has been pretty shit for a while anyway.

Friendly reminder that EA is being purchased and taken private by a Saudi Arabian investment fund chaired by the Crown Prince.
Saudi Arabia's government is famously a champion of human rights and is perfectly fine with journalists raising criticism against their regime. /sarcasm
Probably best not to give them any more of your money.

I want you to know that if you're trying to interact or communicate with me in earnest, I wouldn't ever consider you a bother.
I'm autistic, and my preferred communication style is 'no bullshit', so if you bug me, I'll be sure to bring it up with you in hopes of reaching some kind of resolution.
I'm not just gonna hold animosity behind my back and pretend to be nice and friendly on the outside - that's some neurotypical bullshit, and I want *none* of that.

I don't think you want Blockbuster back as much as your nostalgia is convincing you that you do. They've had a history of participating in censorship, and they would strong-arm and buyout local rental businesses to eliminate competition.

2026-07-20 14:21:18 GMT

I've been seeing an increase of positive sentiment for rental stores like Blockbuster, wishing for their return.
You know what (usually) *doesn't* charge you for renting a title, is generally forgiving about late fees, and can often bring in titles for you from other branches if it's not available at yours?
Your local library! Support your libraries! You can typically request titles if they don't have them at all as well.

I can’t expect the average user to know how to get around that.
The moment they connect it to the Internet, which is required with Win11 OOBE, it will force them to log in with valid Metroplex Global credentials to continue.

2026-05-17 23:17:06 GMT

I was preparing my ThinkPad X280 for sale, but I guess the goobers over at “Multiplex Global” didn’t unenroll the computer from Autopilot properly when they sent it off to recycling.
I totally forgot about this. I had actually sent some emails to some contacts of theirs I had found online, getting zero response.
Assholes.

Also GrapheneOS: Partners with Motorola/Lenovo despite more devices in their lineup having relatively mediocre chipsets than not.

Let this be a warning to those who use software in Adobe's suite that is not yet discontinued.
The best time to find alternatives to Adobe software has passed. The next best time is today.

Yeah, it's fucking shitty that they're discontinuing a piece of software with little to no notice. No doubt it will happen again. I hope that artists are able to find a suitable replacement shortly. I know I wouldn't want to be in the middle of this situation.

2026-02-03 14:10:06 GMT

While we're shitting on Adobe, wasn't there something in their license terms that says they can pursue legal action if you continue to use out of date Adobe software? :neofox_confused:

Uhhhh, so it appears that the Pigeons may have been living on our balcony and we just haven't been hearing them. There's a *lot* of shit in between the AC unit and the wall.
What would be a good way to clean that up without potentially poisoning myself?
Additionally, any humane methods you'd recommend for keeping Pigeons away? We've tried rail spikes and a noise generator, and they just keep coming back.
