BIP-110 proponents argued yesterday that rising fees could eventually incentivize a large miner to redirect hash rate to the chain and find the next block.

⚡️❌ NEW - Proton VPN got caught running price sensitivity tests on its own users, then told everyone it was a stale sale.
Here's what happened. People on Proton's subreddit noticed they were being quoted different prices for the same plan. Refresh the pricing page and VPN Plus shows $2.77/mo at 72% off. Open a fresh incognito window and it's $3.23/mo at 68% off. Same plan, same country, same second. Nothing about the visitor changed.
Proton VPN's General Manager replied that there was no adaptive pricing, that a sale had recently ended, and that the intro prices hadn't "universally refreshed." He called the low numbers an error and suggested people grab them before they got fixed.
Then Windscribe pulled the page source. Every visitor is being sorted into a variant, and the test is labeled in plain text inside an HTML meta tag: ab-test:VpnHpAndPricingVpnPlusSensibility300726. One session returns content="A", the other returns content="B". Two separate pricing URLs, one normal and one flagged test-300726-b. A screen recording shows the price flipping between clean incognito sessions, $3.49 at 65% off, then $2.99 at 70% off.
Expired sales don't do that. Cached pages don't do that. Cloudflare has never once injected a named A/B test into anyone's markup.
Worth being precise about the wording, because Proton was. Adaptive pricing uses your personal data to set a number tailored to you. Price sensitivity testing quotes different people different prices for the identical product to find out how far you can push before sales drop off. The GM denied the first one. Nobody accused them of the first one.
A/B testing prices is ordinary commerce. Amazon does it, airlines do it in their sleep, and almost nobody would have cared. But Proton sells privacy, and privacy is a trust product. The experiment was never the scandal. The denial was.
Run the tests. Just don't call it a glitch when your own code is holding a sign with the test's name on it.

Researcher Cole funded five compromised Mk3 wallets: one with only the vulnerable seed, three protected by 1-, 2-, and 3-word BIP39 passphrases, and one using a random account number. Fourteen hours later, only the unprotected seed-only wallet had been drained.
Separately, James O'beirne's live tripwire dashboard shows just 2 of 17 honeypot wallets swept so far. The only confirmed sweeps have been wallets with no added entropy, while all wallets protected with dice rolls, passphrases, multisig, or other added complexity remain untouched.
The results suggest attackers are currently focusing on the easiest-to-brute-force wallets rather than expending resources on hardened targets, though affected users should still migrate funds immediately rather than relying on temporary protection.

New evidence suggests the pseudonymous switck account that wrote the LibNgU code at the center of the COLDCARD entropy failure was actually Coinkite co-founder and CTO Peter Gray.
Researchers say Gray’s GPG key signed dozens of switck commits, with additional identifiers appearing to link the two identities.
Bitcoin developer James O’Beirne says he warned Coinkite in May 2025 that LibNgU’s RNG implementation looked suspicious and recommended removing it, but says he was told any issue would already have been discovered.
Screenshots also show users questioning the LibNgU rewrite as early as April 2021.
If these findings are accurate, it would mean the engineer who introduced the code later tied to the theft of more than 1,800 BTC also received a direct warning about the RNG implementation more than a year before the vulnerability was publicly disclosed.
🗣 "I haven't told the full story yet, but I came to the same conclusion back in May 2025 when I started doing an audit of `coldcard/firmware`.
I wanted to figure out conclusively where the CC RNG was getting sourced from, and found that it backed up to some shady library called libngu (https://github.com/switck/libngu) that had literally 6 stars on github and was maintained solely by a pseudoanon tranny.
I knew from past experience that linking to libsecp256k1 from Python was pretty easy, which seemed to be the stated purpose of the library use, and so I was confused about why it was there.
I sent a report to the CC team that I had doubts about whether the true RNG was actually in use, and pointed out that the hardcoded yasmarang constants in libngu were sloppy. I advised they rip the whole thing out and link against libsecp256k1 directly.
I was told that if something was wrong "we'd already know about it by now" and that everything was properly configured for the real boards.
