just to play devils advocate a bit.. Do you think someone could come at the problem from the lemmy side and say 'fork this', starting with lemmy as a base so they get a lot of the ui stuff and whatnot but work under that framework on things like decentralized identities / making mod actions a per-user opt-in situtation? My guess is that there would still be a lot of issues (like how so many lemmy sites seem to have a lot of stability/network problems associated with mass federation) and it would be a big challenge due to existing assumptions in lemmy codebase. Plus - unless whatever fork with the changes actually managed to gain enough momentum to overtake the original - most would just ignore it due to the network effort.

one option i plan on looking into if i ever get enough free time and energy is desktop client apps. there's at least 5 of them on linux (i think a few were crossplatform with windows/mac too). only one i remember the name of off the top of my head is called 'gossip'. but i haven't looked at which (if any) of them support communities, what other features they have, etc yet. was also wanting to write a firejail profile (or maybe bubblewrap?) to lock them down even further.

For me, it took a little over 15 minutes (cuz vpn) and I ended up with a 1.4 GB mkv file. You will probably need at least 2-3x that much free space for temp files but it cleans those up when done. If you want more/less resolution, try changing `-S res:720` to `-S res:1080` or `-S res:480` or whatever. If they have that res, then it should work.
Why would you *want* an offline copy? Maybe you want to take screens or run it thru `mkv-merge-gui` and grab meme clips. Maybe you want to be able to jerk off to Christie. Or you just like archiving shit. How tf should I know.
All the tools I used are open-source and should have windows ports. I don't use windows/mac but the commands should work the same on either. android and ios i have no fucking idea, sorry.

Ok. Since you weren't able to assist, I had to look some up online. I think I have learned a lot and am now confident that I can create a transgender joke that is both funny and non-offensive (e.g. it avoids slurs like "troon", it avoids dead-naming, and it avoids misgendering).
I asked 100 trans people what supports them the best. 5% said there co-workers. 10% said their friends. 15% said their parents. 20% said their partner. The rest didn't say anything and just hung around.

what are your favorite git guis for linux?
I've been using an old as fuck version of git extensions that runs under mono. love the ui/ux and the especially the modularity of it (e.g. i can run a commit dialog/window by itself without needing to open a full-bodied app that presents all kinds of other info and step through to a specific screen).
What's been annoying for me is its lack of stability... seems like it crashes a lot more over stupid shit (like repositioning the cursor or copy/paste in the commit message text box) than it used to. Since this is the only thing I use mono for, I wouldn't mind getting back space from that either.
while i do use cli sometimes, i'm specifically looking for gui recommendations here. FOSS strongly preferred

Mixed feelings
I think part of me does... or could also just be that I haven't met the right one yet and am turned off big time by the modern dating pool. :/
I'm somewhat of a homebody, I like things relatively quiet, like the a/c on nice and cold (68 F/ 20 C), etc. I like the lack of drama but also miss the comfort of someone sharing closest moments with you. Honestly, I'm probably not in the right head space for a serious relationship rn tho.
Don't really drink much these days so meeting at a bar just seems like I'm going for the wrong crowd. Feel like tinder/match/every other 'swipe' style dating app is shallow as fuck and just kinda completely checked out of those a long time ago. Plus it seems like the overwhelming majority of women i meet are strongly leftist/woke and I am very much not. Thought about maybe joining a church or something but even if i got my shit together and put myself back out there, i have no fucking clue where to meet quality, non-democrat, singles in their 30s/40s. is that even a thing lol?

it's good. typing from it now and have used it for some time.
if you are coming from firefox, then depending on your preferences / how much security you like / how much of a chore you find changing app settings to be, then you may find some of the default settings off-putting.
For example, by default, LW is set to not store passwords and forget browsing history. But you can configure it to behave exactly as FF if you want to. That said, some of the about:config settings are better imo. For example, there's a setting for puny codes (used to prevent unicode characters that are visually identical to certain latin characters from being easily used in a phishing attack). Chromium-based browsers enable puny codes by default and I think it is a perfectly sane rational decision to do so, given the security implications. But for whatever reason, mozilla always ships with puny codes disabled. LW ships with them enabled.
Other than that, I haven't noticed much differences from firefox; haven't encountered any addons that work in one but not the other or that sort of thing.

yeah, never liked QT licensing either. I actually saw a few desktop linux clients for nostr that were flutter-based but a very cursory search made it sound like i needed to setup android sdk to do any devel with it and i was feeling lazy so i skipped it. mostly i know java 8 and various old web tech... i'm not a bad hand with bash scripts either. but definitely been feeling the pressure to get my skills updated lol.

Currently using webclient directly from firefox and I don't see anything to block/mute users under my profile settings, on the page for the bot's npub profile, or on the comment section. but that too would be very useful, especially as nostr becomes more popular

i wrote a few nodejs scripts back in the day but havent touched it in ages. iirc, getting the setup working was more of a pain in the ass than actually scripting tho. but that might have been cuz i like doing traditional shared/multi-user unix installs and they dont. dont really remember

I've been a bit slow about it but have been looking into some Linux desktop clients. Starting from the graphical side of things but when I get around to looking at the terminal clients, will try to see if any have admin stuff too.
I was thinking it might be nice for like shitposting memes and such to use a terminal client and let it submit things via a script or something instead of me manually copy/pasting, clicking ui buttons for everything.
Will probably be awhile before I get around to it tho

update: after more searching, i found in a different code repo this ticket

seems there is some discussion and snort.social may have come up with some one-off solution but there is no agreed upon solution for nostr as a whole and so no way there could even be a rough ETA on when the ability to edit could even be implemented, let alone tested, merged into the master branch, and servers updated with it
