#WritersCoffeeClub Dec 30th - What POV do you mostly write in? Why?
I've been writing in close third person, switching pov between the two MCs in alternating chapters. I reached the editing stage and something felt off about the tone. It lacked the intimacy I wanted in the story, so I'm now experimenting with redrafting the whole thing in first person. 😱 Not sure what I've let myself in for. I'm only a few chapters deep, but I feel positive about it so far.

#WordWeavers Oct 9th. Do any of your characters have sensory sensitivities?
Ellis is a wolf shifter and that comes with a few added extras. Namely, a heightened sense of smell and hearing. Not always a bonus when you live in a noisy, stinky city, but it has its moments.

I can imagine. You will need a certain type of person to enjoy discussing the speed of putrification with you, for example. 😅
I know someone whose passion seems to be puss. I always open YouTube links from her with a degree of trepidation. I just never know what I'll end up looking at.

It's been a month since I left the job I'd grown to loathe.
I have enough savings for a while longer yet, so I'm not panicking about finding another job. I'm enjoying the time I have to write. I'm also doing a proofreading course, figuring it will help me a lot with my writing, if nothing else.
The things I no longer have:
-daily headaches
-daily nosebleeds
-insomnia
-Sundays riddled with anxiety
-fear every time my phone pings, at home.
-clashing egos to navigate
-a monthly pay cheque

Oh wow! That sounds super stressful. I'm glad you're in now, so you can settle in and
establish a routine that works for you.
We've done the whole clear out of anything we don't want to take with us, and done charity shop and tip runs.
I keep looking at cupboards and saying I'm going to start packing things up, but another day goes by and I don't start. I work soooo much better with a deadline. 😅

Jack gives in to Metro on multiple occasions. He follows him out to the alley and accepts what he's given, hating himself a little more every time.
He knows people talk about him behind his back and he doesn't want the attention, so why can't he refuse?
He knows he's messed up, but saying 'no' is so hard sometimes. Harder than the concrete biting into his knees and harder than hearing all the whispered rumours about himself.

Jack
Yes. He was small for his age, orphaned and lived with an uncle who did little more than cloth and feed him. He was bullied all through school, because kids can be cruel to anyone who isn't the same as them.
At home, he was bullied some more. His uncle didn't want to be saddled with a kid and liked to let him know how much of an inconvenience he was.

#WordWeavers Day 13: What animal would you like as a muse and why?
I think it has to be a dog. Sitting with their head on my lap, gazing up at me as I write. Or leaping into my lap and shoving their nose into my neck for attention. It's the quiet - or not so quiet - companionship. The warmth of having others with you who don't intrude as much as keep things from becoming too quiet.
I can be lost in my head, but not lonely.
If that makes sense.

Don't know about necessary, but I'm better at describing people and emotions, and not so good with descriptions of their wider environment. It's something I need to work on.
I love detailing the intimacy and connection between my characters, so that's what I concentrate on.

I guess I write what I love to read. If no one else enjoys it, that's okay because I have a blast writing it.
But it'll be for anyone else who likes queer, kinky, PNR romance, heavy on the sexual intimacy. Where the characters are often a bit lost, searching for family who sees who they are and who they want to be.
That's my intention anyway.

Marcus forgets to make allowances for other people. He tends to either dismiss them, or go all in. There's no in-between. So when someone he trusts lets him down in some way, he finds it hard to accept and move on.
Jack often forgets to take care of himself.
Ellis doesn't forget things. He likes order and neatness. Probably a result of the chaos of his childhood.

Jack has twice.
He was orphaned at 8 and forced to move across the country to live with his very reluctant uncle.
He left home at 18 and headed to the city.
Friendships don't come easy. He's awkward and quiet. Never knows the right things to say to "fit in".
He tries. His bar job was a conscious effort to get out there and interact with people.
He's alone and very lonely until he meets Ellis and then Marcus.

Tough one. I'm still developing him and so far he hasn't cast himself in the best light.
Aiden is the alpha of Ellis's childhood pack. He's not a kind or pleasant person, but he grew up tough and fought his way to the top. Softness wouldn't have gotten him there.
Umm... He has two kids. Keri, his daughter, is possibly sociopathic. His youngest son, Lark, seems quite nice.

Ellis: It's taking every ounce of patience to resist going in there and laying out my soul. But he doesn't want to hear it. He's not ready.
I can't believe I thought Jack would be the one to back away when I told them the truth. But then, he knows what it can take to survive a shitty hand. He gets that sometimes you have to do unpalatable things just to see another day. Marcus has been protected from that reality.

Ellis has long since accepted being a lone wolf. He's had years to get used to it and his bitterness has mostly faded into something softer. He doesn't miss what he lost any more, but the idealised version of certain memories can still cause the odd pang.
He yearns for his own pack, but they don't need to be shifters. In fact, he has the makings of a family around him. He only needs to realise it.

Growing up, Ellis despised rich people who put their wealth on display for all to see. It made it easier for him to steal from them. He tries to keep his own worth on the low down. Except for clothes. He does love a well tailored suit. He's also a fan of powerful cars. His den needs to be safe, and big and welcoming, so it will be worthy of a pack, one day.
Okay, the irony isn't lost on him. He's not flashy, but it's pretty clear he has money.

Jack - His parents died when he was 8. He remembers feeling safe and loved but not much about them. His world felt secure. Afterwards it didn't.
Marcus - Precariously better. Sex workers rights are at the whims of the government and the media. It ebbs and flows.
Ellis - Shifters have equal rights in theory. In practice, money talks and a lot still face casual discrimination. Many don't disclose it.
