When I was 14, my family adopted two siblings, a brother and a sister (5,3). Before we found them, we would go to adoption agencies and look through binders of kids, as a family. It was pretty crazy.
One in particular always stood out to me. There were five kids. Heartbreaking, really. Four girls with wildly inventive names like Shaniqua, Aiysha, LaTanya, Lateisha, and then Frank.
I have to think maybe Frank was named after someone. He was the baby and the only boy.

I really love this Phillies team. As Annie Savoy once said, “They play baseball with joy and verve and poetry.”
I moved to Pennsylvania from Oklahoma when I was eight years old and the Phillies were my first love. I’ve seen a few great teams, and quite a few shitty ones.
I was in the stadium last time they won the World Series.
But this, I think, is my favorite team of all time.
I sure do hope they win it all. They sure are fun to watch. They’re playing the game.

If you haven’t been paying attention to history or world events, the opposition party in an authoritarian regime rarely fares all that well.

Sometimes I feel a little shortchanged on the era in which I was born. Was watching Biloxi Blues and thinking how awesome the 1940s looked.
My big memory back to my childhood is a fucking shitshow of horrible design and regrettable style. I’m nostalgic for the music and movies but not because they’re good. No one looks bad at the 80s and thinks, “Man, they sure had good style.”
We just like remembering when we were young.
